I wasn't able to watch the games or the stream but when I look at the Liquipedia page of this MLG Arena, I see Parting and DRG were perfectly tied at the end of the pool play. Now considering Parting won the set where he was opposed to DRG, how did DRG got to be the one advancing? The overall Map Score being displayed there is a bit of a red herring; in a tie, head-to-head match score is considered first (Heart/Parting/DRG all 1-1 vs. each other) and then head-to-head map score (Heart > DRG > Parting). Overall Map score is considered only if H2H map scores are tied. I'm not a native english speaker and really didn't get that :S Thx for the answer but if anyone could clarify it would be great ^^
I will quote a post from a closed thread from SC2 General that explains it well (thanks to user Tntnnbltn):
Quoting MLG Spring Arena 1's tiebreaker rules...
"Round Robin Ranking (1st-8th) will be determined using each Player’s Record of Matches won and lost." Heart, DRG and Parting all had 3-4 in overall matches, so were tied.
"Ties will be broken using the following Tiebreakers in this order: (1) Head to Head Match Winning Percentage (Matches Won vs. Tied Players / Matches Played vs. Tied Players)" DRG has a head-to-head match percentage of 50% (won vs Heart, lost vs Parting) Parting has a head-to-head match percentage of 50% (won vs DRG, lost vs Heart) Heart has a head-to-head match percentage of 50% (won vs Parting, lost vs DRG) Players are still tied.
"(2) Head to Head Games Winning Percentage (Games Won vs. Tied Players / Games Played vs. Tied Players)" DRG won 3/6 games (1 vs Parting, 2 vs Heart) Parting won 2/6 games (2 vs DRG, 0 vs Heart) Heart won 4/6 games (1 vs DRG, 3 vs Parting) Heart > DRG > Parting
This resolved the tiebreaker, so no further steps were needed. The NEXT step would have been to look at overall game score (Heart 10-11, DRG 9-12, Parting 9-12) but this was not necessary as the tie was already resolved.

Or maybe he's happy because MKP lost. oh come on. i am a big parting fan too, but the rules are the rules. Yes they are. But that was a horrible call. Why base tie breakers off of a player who has a different map score? It makes no sense (not to continue bitching, as im sure this horse has been beat enough already) And congratz DRG! Hope this pulls him out of his *somewhat* slump Only a player the caliber of DRG makes a GSL championship and 2 MLG runner-up seem like a slump. dont forget the gsl code s ro32 drop out

I'm not bashing alive, you can check my post history to see that i've been cheering for him in a lot of matchups. i'm just much more convinced mkp is a better player than alive is. e.g. when you check who alive got booted out of code S by this year: season 1: 3-0 loss to genius, when mkp was 3-2 ahead of genius [but lost due to rematch series]. season 2: 1-4 straight out to zergs, where mkp was 4-1 1st place to zergs.
i agree that he needs to be a bit more marketable too.

best fucking player MKP my ASS xD 3 MLG finals in a row, GSTL 3 kill(not counting Parting), decent IPL4 run... Ya not best player in the world. decent IPL 4 run ? decent Fanboy base u mean . If aLive wins Iron Squid, thats 2 titles back to back, MKP likes to be Second place Kong though. sorry, unless aLive wins like 5 tournaments and GSL's in a row he will never be as popular as DRG, MMA, MKP, etc. Glad to see even aLive has 1 fanboy though LOL, who cares about popularity in a computer game. www.sc2earnings.com is the thing that matters and needs to be followed Argues that the amount players earn is important. aLive ranked lowest out of the 4 terrans listed. Nice, really well done. Also, popularity does matter, obviously. Unless you want to be one of those terrans that MKP, MMA, MVP, always outshadow and no one thinks about first, or at all. Oh wait, aLive is one of them huh.
aLive started to win this year, I d say give him 12 months to catch up. I dont think hes another Jjakji, his play is much more solid, similar to MVP in 2011.

i actually think jjakji is a damn amazing player, great tvz, very fun tvp and his tvt is rapidly improving (albeit rather based around timing attacks and such). kinda similar to mkp when you think about it in terms of playstyle.

How did aLive discussion sneak into a tournament he's not even in?

If aLive wins Iron Squid, thats 2 titles back to back, MKP likes to be Second place Kong though. I really hope aLive doesn't win anything else any time soon. He's the most boring top player around. He's really good though, but he's just... bland. MKP is funnier to watch, DRG is awesome, MMA is pure balls, MVP is a fucking genius at his best, MC makes the impossible happen, NesTea looks like a master at everything. Most champions have a special vibe to them, aLive just doesn't aLive has the cleanest, most patient and strategical strongest play out of them all. while not being a spectacular player, which is not necessarily required in a RTS, except if u want to get fanboys. I'd say MVP is more known for that.
Indeed, Their styles are VERY similar.
Thats why I keep saying MVP dominance was the most incredible as well.
MVP now is having the disease, with an unknown outcome. Since aLive plays similar like him, I just believe hes the player to watch out for now.
Hope MVP gets well though and gets far in Code S.

Well, after testing the ppp format, i'm not truly convinced. I actually believe there were too many games. The tournament format was so tortuous i grew bored after two days. MLG really milked the players for all the games they had. Using a round robin tournament with pointless obligatory third games to eliminate just 2 players was a painstakingly long process.

Same applies to aLive and MMA
Its not that bad, given the fact those players are 99% guaranteed to re qualify to Code S anyway.

Ah, but if it were not for those pointless obligatory third games, DRG would have been one of those eliminated players!

Lol true, but i mean he bombed his RO32 group and tilted vs MKP the 2nd time they met imo (and it just didnt' seem like the usual DRG v T )

i would rate jjajki above alive, just sayin =/
You can't really name a "best player in the world in SC2, at least not yet..."
MKP has basically completely changed the game in different stages of sc2 already...MC is probably the only other person to be as influential in sc2 so far...that to me is what makes him one of if not the best in sc2 so far.

alive will be up against leenock, that'll be a close match mma will be up against nestea, if nestea prepares like a boss he can make that too

Gratz DRG!
Although somehow, it's hard to think of them as having a rivalry just yet, unlike DRG MMA. Something has to happen. There needs to be some controversy.
Zerg continous to be awesome, GSL my chin.

So by ELO...
Best TvT: MMA, Taeja, MVP, aLive Best TvP: Bomber, Puma, aLive, Supernova Best TvZ: Jjakji, MMA, Taeja, MVP
Best ZvT: Leenock, DRG, Curious, July Best ZvP: True, DRG, Nestea, Losira Best ZvZ: Nestea, DRG, Leenock, Seal
Best PvT: Parting, Younghwa, Puzzle, Hongun Best PvP: Squirtle, Finale, Oz, GuineaPig Best PvZ: Squirtle, JYP, Crank, Brown
Squirtle best vP overall MMA best vT overall Squirtle best vZ overall
In case anyone was curious. Some of these players are a bit wtf.
Hilariously, MKP is 5th in every matchup. Of course, ELO is more or a "weighted average", so it reflects on his pre-2012 performances as well.

well Jjakji has a GSL title but no big international one. vice versa for aLive.
The mech style just works much better against MKP and MMA than Jjakjis style, so he is more effective against most of the Korean Elite.

This is their third time meeting in the finals of an MLG, showing that they are consistently at the top. Wouldn't be surprised if they met against at Arena #2.
