The 'Plunder Down Under' Invitational!
Brought to you by Saddle Club Entertainment, 'I Heart eSports' and Tt eSports
Original Artwork by Kalikah - http://jasminekurda.carbonmade.com/

The 'Plunder Down Under' Invitational is the brainchild of Alicia ‘femFxRogue’ Oliver and Nicolas ‘TAChadmann’ Russo, combining to bring the South East Asian Starcraft II Community a Tournament ... with a twist.

The 16 Player Invitational (14 SEA invites, 2 international invites) will be run strictly Random vs Random on what we have determined to be the worst maps ever created. With the players unable to choose their main races and playing on maps which are not in the ladder pool they will be forced to think outside their normal styles and deliver fun and exciting games for those spectating on the stream.

The Tournament will be casted live by Leigh ‘Maynarde’ Mandalov of ACL Gold Coast, along with the Tournament creators, femFxRogue and TAChadMann.

The whole tournament will be streamed on Twitch.tv @ www.twitch.tv/TteSPORTS.

Moonglade will probably take this.

EDIT: WTF @ the map pool! Novice maps?? Perhaps it would've been better to have a few extra showmatches on those maps than have the tournament based around it...All the best for the tournament anyway. Good to see the aussie scene in action.

it is meant to be a funny game tournament...
mOOnGLaDe is a fav - but don't discount the other guys...
Silly builds and RvR on these maps is part of the concept - watch the players think outside of the box and have a good time!..

Wouldn't the SEA players be better served having a chance to show how well they can perform in normal games against established players from other regions, instead of playing against them in a wonky tournament where results can be attributed to both random race determination and the ridiculous map-pool?

It also seems a waste of time to watch this tournament when none of the match-ups are going to be competitive (and hence less entertaining) given the silly maps.

Way to be a buzz kill bro.. -_- Obviously you haven't played funny games - for the fans...?

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about this tournament a while ago. Then I took a step back and looked at it. At the moment there are plenty of opportunities for the SEA community to showcase their talent against 'the world', for example the Masters Cup which happens each month. Previously many of our SEA community took on the likes of Startale members and players from Complexity and still took the 1-2-3 in the event. Do you remember seeing the tournament? Probably not, because like it or not it's simply another blip on the massively saturated tournament scene of SC2.

Unless you have thousands of dollars worth of prizes it's hard to make an impact on the international scene. At least this way it's something different, something that stands out from the masses of other tournaments and we can all have some fun.

Let's face it, if you can only enjoy 'super competitive' games then there are still a couple of tournaments and 10's of streams and 100's of hours of high level play you can still watch on the same day of the tournament, of which I'm sure the vast majority you just won't be able to get too.

On the flip side, I'm sure there is only one tournament being played on novice blistering sands .... lol.

This should be really fun! An interesting take on a tournament. I hope it produces some fun games. Given the players we should see some crazy builds.

This is going to be a lot of fun and with guys like Machine, Cella and Balloon i expect some fun games.
Maybe even carriers OMG
How often will you be able to see carriers in a tournament?

And like Peleus has already said - the whole point is to have "ridiculous" maps and funny games.
Plus it showcases one of the key points to the SEA community that tbh NA and sites like TL lack - and that is having fun.
Really, why is real cheese so hard to come by in Korea? ^&^

I thought the entire point of the tournament was to get more exposure for good SEA players?

"With this event, we aim to promote SEA and SEA eSports - showing the rest of the world that SEA know how to do it.. and have fun while we do! We hope to bring exposure to some of SEA's top players in a fun and exciting medium."

How can you show that SEA know how to do it when the games are on novice maps?

Good luck with the tournament an' all, but IMO the format is ridiculous.

I'm sad that you can't see the fun in it..

Sadly, the SEA scene is sooo small that this will be big for SEA, we will be showcasing the top players in SEA. The format is in place to show that we, while not being up to the top notch of the Kr scene, we know how to have fun! I hope people tune in, chill out and enjoy the show. It's not going to be the standard high quality games.. but it will be a great laugh.

If that doesn't interest you, sorry - but as it has been stated - a $350 tournament is a tiny blip - this 'Funny games' Style is our point of difference. We're not 'serious' about the builds and standard of play.. but I assure you, 200/200 Sentries or Viking Drops - can get rather funny to watch.

Maybe you should check it out if your still a bit sceptical - you might surprise yourself and catch yourself laughing at the games and enjoying it. Plus the stream give aways will be great for the viewers!

I think you can have the funniest games in the world and still have no viewers if the caster isn't up to par. This was always the biggest differential to me - I'd always watch a stream over a low-profile tournament with a bad caster. I really recommend offering someone known $100 and good times/sex while cutting the prize pool a little next time you're organising an event.

That said, I've never heard of this caster you've announced. If he's good I'm sure people will follow. I don't really understand why SEA events always have a SEA caster though.

Good luck with the tournament an' all, but IMO the format is ridiculous.

The whole point is it's a ridiculous format, we aren't trying to show we have good players in SEA this tournament, as someone else said, there's like a tournament a week in which you can check out the SEA scene's players in with this kind of prize-pool if you wanted. The whole point of this tournament is just for the players to have fun and mess around and for viewers to see what it looks like when great players play offraces on island maps .

I understand your point of "But you could do other things that would further the SEA scene better" yeah, I agree, and those things are being done, but this is just to muck around and have fun and give people a chance to watch, if you cant see the fun in it then I feel sorry for you Mr.Buzzkillington.

Hey man, I'm the caster for this event and I was invited because I've been doing a fair bit for the SEA community lately and most people seem to enjoy what I do The creators of the event will be co-casting with me because they are the creators and also pretty awesome characters themselves. If you go here there's a link to some of my recent online VODs if you're interested.

You're absolutely right, in fact SC2SEA has been running a pretty successful pro league over the past couple months where the pro teams go head to head. Casted some games ~11 hours ago with one of our great SEA casters (Zepph) and they were amazing Check the VODs on that bad boy here.

Our casting team, Maynarde, Rogue and myself all know each other - so there will be chemistry between us. Maynarde is a primary caster for ACL (the MLG of Australia) and is possibly one of the best, up coming casters in the SEA scene. Myself and Rogue are, I hope, quite funny people with a crazy sense of humour. However, if you don't like us - we are organising, an additional 1-2 streams to cover all of the games.

Filthy practically funny gamed every game he ever played, he would take this tournament with incredible ease if he played.

On the flip side, I'm sure there is only one tournament being played on novice blistering sands .... lol.

And this tournament is going to be a sub-par blip on the massively saturated tournament scene of SC2. I just don't see how this helps SEA players out any more than playing against these players in normal matches (and I also don't see how games can be entertaining on those maps, but that's a different issue altogether).

You missed the entire point of the tournament yo ={.

Looking forward to playing this for sure!

Now bet's are on what the ridiculous map will be!

Can't wait to watch this, the casters are great and in the spirit of things having casters that bring humour to the tournament is absolutely necessary.

Ladies and Gentleman, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Mr Bryce 'Machine' Bates will not be able to attend the Plunder Down Under Invitational - something to do with MLG on that weekend or something?... never heard of it, I'd say this is bigger tho, right?

Anyway, while trying to organise another International replacement - many of our other contacts are also attending this MLG thing'o?... So despite our best efforts to find an invite from far away shores - we've decided to look internally for a replacement of Mr Machine.

With out further ado - please welcome Ray 'xGKingLight' Wang to the line up for the upcoming Plunder Down Under Invitational.

Xeria Gaming's Protoss powerhouse holds multiple top 20 GM spots at any time on the SEA server and with his new level of activity he will be amongst the favourites for this tournament. Additionally - Light has the ability to develop creative and powerful styles in his normal play, his funny games should be amazing!

We will be working with Machine to bring him into SEA events soon (perhaps Machine v SEA? or another tournament - he was quite looking forward to this event).. But until then, please welcome Light to the Plunder line up!!

Been looking forward to this for a while, my guess for the final map is Kulas Extreme or perhaps one of those maps where the lava cuts you off if you stay on the lowground too long.

Maybe I am bumping slightly but I am looking forward to some hilarious games so I feel justified :D
