Apparently some people are dumb enough to STILL be asking for it, so let's make things clear:
Do NOT ask for re-streams, and do NOT post re-streams.
Do not come here and muddle the thread by bitching about PPV. |
what would have happened at mlg if: huk would have won against drg -> huk vs mkp finals
Finals: first "bo3" -> actually a extended bo7 with MKP 2:0 in the lead then i.e. huks wins this 4:2
now we have 2 options: 1.) huk won the tournament overall without MKP ever dropping to the lower bracket! he would just be eliminated with losing his first match (i cant really believe this) or 2.) MKP drops to the losers bracked (like he did against drg now) and the will play another "bo3". But this would have been their third "bo3". Would this then be actually a Bo11 with huk 4:2 in the lead?
this case actually never happened so far, does anyone know FOR SURE how this would have been handled (good explaination and maybe sources)?

If anything, a huge event like MLG Providence is more worthy of adopting a PPV model, I'm too frugal to buy it unless it was $10. But $20 for this event didn't seem all that great (and I managed fine just reading Play-by-Play's). yes, like I said many times over. Show me why you are bringing them down in the first place. Did they? Honest answer, no. Although, the quality of the games was very, very good. I hope they got a lot of promotional materials out of them for the upcoming events but we really didn't see anything noteworthy of why they were there. Lan/latency would be great. Yet we still have players d/cing and MLG tried to accomodate and give them the best conditions to play. We could have seen the talent used a little more better. Grubby and Sheth casting was a nice addition. Dont even compare the disconnect we saw to cross server play. Cross server play should never be used honestly. It puts everything into a big crap shoot. Also certain players would be playing at horrible times. Tgose two reasons alone make it worth it to fly the players in
I didn't? They are two separate things as I said. LAN and latency go along way. The thing is Blizzard is still dropping the ball on this and MLG felt it necessary to fly everyone there. -_-

Im sure MKP is better than you in judging and executing optimized builds Or he just fucked up...Maybe he just decided halfway through that he was going to double expo...
There are a plethora of reasons that may account for it. But more likely than not, that build was not optimized.

Totally agree, plus he's among the youngest players out there, still only 18 so he could still have big upside.

On the whole, I prefer their traditional format, especially because of the live audience.
I loved their new player with the multiview-layout-options, even if it still has its flaws (e.g. not enough keyboard-shortcuts). The VODs are almost spoiler-free now. "Almost", because twitch tends to list associated videos, so you're occasionally confronted with a link to the game-3-VOD after just having watched the first game of a BO3-series, thus spoiling the result of the second game. But it's much better than the clunky all-in-one-player-solution they used before, where you were forced to choose your games from a grid of thumbnails and inevitably spoiling half of the tournament right from the start.
Concerning their business model, I fail to see why they just didn't offer the 240p and 360p for free, supported by ads between the matches. If you believe Sundance, they did it this way to test the market and the feasibility of a PPV-model. This probably would have worked much better with a more effective paywall though, but I guess they got their data nevertheless.
Having watched both, I'd have to say that I enjoyed Assembly and Arena likewise and for different reasons. But had I not gotten sick and been unable/unwilling to go out this weekend, MLG Arena wouldn't have been worth 20$ to me, especially when compared to other SC2-events (the "movie-theatre-and-popcorn"-comparisons aren't that convincing). I don't care how many people they fly across oceans, in the end you have to evaluate the enjoyment you get out of their product in relation to other products of the same category. Something everyone has to figure out for him-/herself I guess.

Rob people want to see their champions bask in the glory on the stage with their trophies holding it up nice and high.
People stick around for them as its a crowning achievement because the player earned it.

1 happens. MKP lost 4 games. So it's sort of like losing 2 bo3's. It's not elegant and I would prefer separate series, but that's what would happen.

But the competition there was as strong as it comes
Great foreign tournament, but be serious. Slightly over 3% of the players in this tournament were Drewbie.

Oooo too bad I didn't get to catch the finals.. Will have to watch the vods.. Will the PoV vids e available as well?
Congrats MKP though!

What are you really missing out on though? JP would ask "how do you feel?" and Marineking would reply "It feels great to have won blahblahblah" The they would give him a cheque. The end. Does that really influence your decision to spend $20?

Was really disappointed that tastosis didn't build up any enthusiasm to his win. It was a huge deal and it was kind of lame how underplayed it was. Games were fantastic all weekend, the first time i really enjoyed watching PvZ ( Ret vs Huk game 1 omgomg or DRG vs Parting on Taldarim), and really thought that everyone was playing their A game ( with the exception of MVP and Nestea what the hell happened with them?)
The one point artosis made really struck me today though: is MKP not even reaching his potential due to lack of top tier practice? I tend to not think so but it was an interesting point..
Well said. I thought considering the amount of content we got, the quality of the content, and then the final result (biased :D), the event was well worth $20.
I find that interesting as well. I don't really know what MKP's practise routine is like, or who he practises with, but it is interesting to imagine his potential if he switched to a team with higher calibre players to practise with. No disrespect to Prime, they're a great team, but they don't really have any other top tier players like teams such as SlayerS, IM etc.

Yeah you get the top 8 from the korean qualifiers and then 8 from.. north american qualifiers? And european qualifiers too. Its not as stacked as Code S because its ALL the koreans instead of 8 of them and then an assortment of foreigners among whom the vast majority of which drop out early. It's not hard to understand.
