No idea. I just know it's a live event in french broadcasted on Millenium TV. Maybe some casters will join the games and broadcast it in another language. Let see tomorow.
|
Yes, the french one will shoutcast from the event, so don't know if they will allow other casters, could be nice
|
where's the stream? [EDIT] i'm one day early XD
|
Oh no, not this shit again! Feel bad for Kas!

Good luck Grubby! I really hope he can beat Stephano this time

Thanks! That player needs a play/pause button!

Okay so... what were matchups?
I only caught Grubby vs Sarens
(and Stephano vs Kenzy first)
|
I heard :
stephano - Kenzy Grubby - Sarens Elvis - Adelscott Bling - Tarson
|
First match will start soon on millenium tv:
Stephano vs Kenzy
|
Stephano-Kenzy Bling-Tarson Sarens-Grubby Elvis-Adelscott
|
So it's
Stephano - Kenzy Tarson - Bling Elvis - Adelscott Grubby - Sarens
?
|
Anyone know if there's an English language stream?

I don't quite understand why once again there is no english stream. Surely it isn't that much effort to find casters willing to do it even for free. I'm sure alot of amateur casters would jump at the chance to cast this.

I realise this but I'm just saying I would have appreciated just a tiny tiny bit of effort to accomodate the international community. Just a line asking for english casters to apply in the OP would have been nice. Millenium tournaments are usually quite nice.

A russian stream asked to stream, and it was ok. If english and deutch streamer are not aware as the russian one, it's not the fault of millenium. Plus it's a event for french mainly, it's not millenium who is going to search for streamer, so if you could think before to write something ...
|
|
he just said there's a russian stream because the russian caster said he really wanted to stream this
instead of bashing french because they didn't think about contacting english casters, maybe you should consider english casters didn't think of contacting millenium because they don't think much of french events?
don't misunderstand me, i think there should be a english cast for this, but organizing such a tournament alone is already enough trouble, it's a lot of effort to contact every known caster for this (with many refusing, or giving late response, and other being less famous)
i guess the best way to do it would have been to make a public announcement for this on TL a month ago, but then again, it might have been unnoticed

Plus it's a event for french mainly, it's not millenium who is going to search for streamer, so if you could think before to write something ... My posts should say that millenium didnt try to get any casters and ask them if they want to ask, because they just dont care. Some tournaments do so.

He played it out wonky, taking quite some risk after being very far ahead. Maybe he focuses a bit too much on the prism-storm drop, his attention seems to be not quite where it should be. Also, take your advantage and just kill him. 3-3 zealots vs 1-1 MM is the real a-move of this game

The french stream is a disaster unfortunately. No possible choice of image resolution - so for us with max 400k/s (yeah i know, but it still exists) it lags regularly, where's the 360 button !?!. And admins disconnecting every second or third game don't help either. I'm forced to watch Dignitas's stream to avoid the lag, it's good too but it lacks the crowd reaction and player cams, which adds a lot to the french stream. Disappointing.

Agreed, Dailymotion player sucks for this! It's only one resolution and you have no other choices but it's an known issue... Anyway they have partner ship w/ dailymotion so it won't change.

I know that, I'm not blaming someone in particular, just pick another stream partner or ask Dailymotion to add that option, it can't be impossible if they want to please their viewers (I'd love to watch the french stream and give them the ad revenue but it's impossible right now).

Since most people rather complain than pay, the amount of money they throw in the team is very relevant..

Sick sick PvP between Adel and Grubby.

|
|
French caster is horrible. Hi, show Grubby in the bottom as well?
|
Will grubby be able to overcome his Stephano curse ?
:3
|
|
Adels greedyness will pay off I think
|
Impressed with Grubby! Love that guy!
|
Speechless. Grubby is such a monster when it comes to micro O.O...
|
|
|
Adel handled his defense very well, but he was outmaneuvered at Grubby's base. If he'd used cascade micro over aggressive blinks his advantage would have carried him through I think.
|
Those 2 games were more Adel loss than Grubby's win...he was ahead on both and took horrible fights on both...way too commited on his pushes, he should learn to pull back sometimes -.-
Grubby vs Stephano, bo5...considering Grubby still hasn't won a game against Stephano in an official match (or maybe 1 ?), I'm interested to see what Grubby has prepared...
|
Is there a 3rd place match?
Also, Stephano is 14-1 in map score vs Grubby since October :D
I like them both, hope it goes to a game 5 this time!

You're not in, so the tournament is really bad ? There's stream issues for a lot of tournaments. And tbh, overlays are most of the time annoying.

So cool that Grubby gets more and more chances to challenge Europe's Number 1 already. He is a fast learner and I'm sure at some point he will be able truely put some pressure on Stephano.

It's unlikely it reaches the fifth map, either Grubby prepared some special tactics and will win 3 0 or 3 1, or Stephano will roll him 3 0 as usual

Adel didn't just throw his games away, Grubby really showed he was the more skilled player with his amazing harass/multi-task that Adel just couldn't handle. Just because Adel expanded earlier and gained the advantage first doesn't mean it was his game to lose more than Grubby's to win.

He purposefully acted so badly, a bit like a parody of the typical hot girl you usually see (ugly, speaking ununderstandable French...) at these ceremonies, that it ended up being somewhat funny.

Not very funny, even when you understand french, but the organization team wants to thanks people who make donation to the event

Just because Adel expanded earlier and gained the advantage first doesn't mean it was his game to lose more than Grubby's to win. I never said I considered Adel better than Grubby. Grubby is better, micro and macrowise, no doubt about that. I just said the first who gained a significant advantage was Adel, in both games, and it was because of better openings and decision makings in the early stages of the game. That means against a protoss who doesn't throw his advantage away, Grubby would have lost both games, which is why I consider him a bit lucky. He recognized himself on stage, and to me is a proof he is still nowhere near top level.
That said, I hope he can (finally) give Stephano a run for his money, and he definitly has his chances. He is smart, and I bet he has prepared some tactics for this match, as it was more or less obvious from the start he would face Stephano in the final.

Basically : Millenium sets different kind of tickets for the event. There's the standard ticket. Then, you can pay a little more to donate to help them in order to organize bigger events. There's also a third ticket which is more expensive. Millenium has some prizes they share with those who bought the second and third kind of tickets. ( they even have a computer to give )
Edit : The food comes from the first LAN Millenium organized. A guy had a big cake cooked for the event. They gave a piece for each winner of the wheel of fortune.

Why did Grubby not build a nexus at his 2nd expansion? Not enough space? He had about 1k mineral after the attack on Stephanos 3rd expansion.

his macro is insane.. before the 12 minute mark he is saturated on 3 base, taking his fourth and maxing out on well upgraded roach hydra... although there came early agression from grubby.. lovin to watch stephano's zerg )
|
Do you really think Grubby can make such a mistake? I'm pretty sure it was an attempt to fool Stephano.
|
I don't know how you can win against Stephano in a PvZ. Everything the protoss player can do / try is easily denied. Then stephano just overwhelms his opponent.

good thing i kept the english stream

Don't think so, fake 3rd + hallucination, I think he was trying to go for a 2 base push but vs such a macro machine as Stephano, I guess you need to be agressive way faster than that....or ?
|
On February 19 2012 05:26 Gevna wrote: I don't know how you can win against Stephano in a PvZ.
Well, in Korea, MC won every single time he played Stephano (Ladder / Practice or official matchs), so i'd say : Play like Mc.

i second that. Grubby invested alot in his first push which did 0 damage in total. he wouldnt have any chance getting close to stephanos macro anymore if he took a third. i mean grubby had 2 base when stephano had 3 base saturated with map controle and bigger army. it kinda was his last effort allin.

Not true! Stephano got a win! It was ZvZ though
|
I just tested it in a custom game. With the wall-off Grubby did at his B3, there isn't enough space for a nexus anymore (in any of the four positions).
|
grubby didnt make his third during this.. he is floating 1k ..
|

this is sad to watch as Grubby's fan but Stephano is just outplaying him so hard :/ i feel like Grubby needs something surprising in next map, it will be 3-0 otherwise :X

Perfect tournament, lets go! This just shows how talented Stephano is. I would go as far to say he is the best zerg in the world at the moment. But not by much ^_^
|
Wow...the 2nd map was close to perfect play from Stephano. Sick macro, sick multitasking, nice strategy going for drops considering the map, that was beautiful to watch.
|
Man watching just how good Stephano is, makes me hope he reconsiders his plan to stop this fall. I mean he is so damn good.
|
That was a pretty sick attack by Stephano. Drop in the main while burrow moving roaches through the forcefields at the front.
|
Stephano 13-1 Grubby atm, 14-1 is Stephano wins this map ><
|
Stephano just got a call from his bookmaker to let grubby win the next two games to maximize his betting wins. :D
|
Grubby needs to be more stringent with his macro to stand a chance against Stephano. Again he had close to 1k minerals when he did his blink stalker push. Just put these minerals into a 2nd expansion immediately and it MIGHT be not that one sided.

Not in the world :/, but best foreign zerg most definitely. Dont think anyone can prove otherwise atm.
|
Stephano's macro, micro, timing, strategy, and game sense is a complete package. It's hard to think of another NA/EU player who is good in every aspect. Sen and Naniwa can compete, but both have their weaknesses - Stephano has very few weaknesses.

We CAN call Stephano a top 2 foreign Zerg I guess, but not more. He still has to prove himself in GSl against the koreans yet, where every single other foreigner before him fell. The difference between him and the other foreigners is that he just doesnt make mistakes. So do all the koreans, but the thing is, some koreans play genius + flawless, and thats whats called a GSl champion.
|
Would it be possible that Grubby loses the mindgame and isn't able to perform as good as he should do on paper?
|
Ugh why did Grubby wait so long to warp in.. then he did it when the lings were about to kill the pylon. T_T There goes any chance of aggression.
|
when these 2 meet it's always as if stephano was in grubby's mind, perfect reads, nothing works for grubby

Stephano won't ever enter a MLG again after what happened last year. And full GSL seasons don't pay enough for the time they take.

It's almost strange to watch, it feel s like he doesn't do too much scouting and always balances on the edge of over-droning, but somehow he always ends taking the right decision. Even so, the macro from grubby wasn't the best we've seen from him.

Yes, and that's pretty stupid. But whatever, even if he beats koreans outside of Korea, y'all keep telling that's just irrelevant as long as that's not in GSL. GSL is a tournament where you can prepare for your opponent litteraly perfectly. Foreign tournaments require some quick adaptation since you chain matches. I'm getting more and more bored with the GSL.

In grubby's defense, Stephano is in top form so it's not easy for anyone to beat him. Well GG.

Perfect injects from zerg is very hard to cope with because they have so many more units in the midgame. I've watched Stephano's stream and his injects are near perfect throughout the whole game.

Anyway, french are really awesome, besides this horned guy this was really cool. Also good crowd.

He beat DRG and Hero in the Blizzard Cup.... only barely losing to MC and MVP.
Koreans should be afraid of him, once he gets rolling he could turn around 10 years of Korean RTS dominance I don't think any of the top Koreans are eager to face him, they have a lot invested in being considered the best in the world, and Stephano could undo all that pretty quickly once he gets on a roll.
He's a steamroller in EU/NA... and if he gets in that zone in Korea..... well the forums here would get pretty ugly.
He is a huge threat to BW and KR superiority. What would TL think if a French WC3 player is really the best in the world?

People complaining that Steph did not advance in his GSL group: Seriously? He played in a group with argueably the best players of each race at the time of the matches and went out with an even score of 2-2. All foreigners and about 90% of the Korean players would not be able to do this.

I feel like Stephano is a Code S level Zerg. Not going to bother arguing about whether he'd be able to reach Code S if he goes to the GSL (because there's a lot more barriers to success in the GSL than just your skill), but it's what I think watching the way he plays.
He doesn't really have a weakness. Lots of strategies, excellent macro, excellent micro, awesome positioning and engagements, great game sense, and a grasp of timing that few foreigners have. The one thing about him that prevents him from winning everything is that he seems to be inconsistent from tournament to tournament. Sometimes he shows his best and sometimes he doesn't, but if he doesn't, its not a per-game thing but a per-tournament thing. Not sure why.

winning a GSL is still the pinnacle of sc2, stephano has the skill to win one if he stayed in korea for a few months or longer but for a young kid with a lot of money and easier ways to make money it isn't efficient or fun for him to be korea for a long period of time, which is a shame because he is the only foreigner who could win one atm

Your looking at it too granularity..... he's a WINNER.... he finds ways to WIN and to dominate.
On a big stage, in big events that counts for a lot.
Some competitors just have that "intangible" ability to win.... Stephano has it without question... and he's a threat to the best in the world.

Just ignore people that have this "loser" mindset. Unfortunately there are several top foreign players that think the same: winning a map in a bo3 vs a korean is a good result for them. That's not how you approach the match ...

I think he will do really well in the next big events vs top koreans. Last year people just learned his style and they were able to blind counter his builds (Mvp on Shakuras is a good example).

Hmm, kind of reminds me of that conversation between Achillies and his mother at the beginning of Troy.
If he doesn't go to the GSL, he will see a lot of success in EU/NA, and after he's gone his fans will remember him. But as the years pass and SC 2 changes, little by little his fame will fade away, until in the end no one remembers his name.

Haha this!! But yeah imo GSL is just not worth it atm, he's making more money than almost any korean that is not top 4. And the chance that he wont get far from the getgo is too big, as even MVP and MMA are struggling now to get top 4 in the GSL.

Stephano has picked up more than $8000 in prize money in 2012, which is only about 6 weeks. You can see why it is worthwhile him staying in Europe. He'd have won more too if he had not pulled out of the ONOG Final.

The GSL is as volatile as any part of SC2, except the tournement takes part over 4-6 weeks. So if you have a bad day, your basically out of competition until 6 weeks later.
Its a silly system and doesn't promote an active competitive landscape. I've seen Stepahno play more in 2012 so far, than I saw Nestea play in all of 2011.
Well, the GSL on its own is ok, but KR in general needs more tournaments to showcase players.
Stephano shows his mad skillz every week, multiple times, how often do we get to see MVP, DRG, MMA, Nestea?

And the chance that he wont get far from the getgo is too big, as even MVP and MMA are struggling now to get top 4 in the GSL. Well, there's room for both. And part of the excitement of the top koreans is that we see them so rarely. Buyt I agree to the extent that I find the weekend-events to be a lot more engaging, even if the quality of the games will never be as high. Instead we get quick, gritty and intense.
I really wish that a european GSL equivalent would happen. Players could travel to a studio located in germany for centrality. I think training for a GSL gives the players something special in their training, that they don't get when training in general. The hammering out of specific builds on specific maps to take out specific opponents. It has to focus the attention of the players on the small details and perfect timings.

So do all the koreans, but the thing is, some koreans play genius + flawless, and thats whats called a GSl champion. He has already played versus koreans. That's really annoying to have to " prove yourself in GSL ". Against whom if I may ask you? MMA in an online qualifier? Some Code A or Code B players outside of korea? GSL is different than any other tournament. I'm getting more and more bored with the GSL. winning a GSL is still the pinnacle of sc2, stephano has the skill to win one if he stayed in korea for a few months or longer but for a young kid with a lot of money and easier ways to make money it isn't efficient or fun for him to be korea for a long period of time, which is a shame because he is the only foreigner who could win one atm
Agreed, but as someone already said it, winning a GSL is far from being only skill-related. It's at least half of preparation for a specific opponent/match up. Skillwise, i'm pretty sure Stephano can compete with the best of the best. But he's not used to the way GSL rolls. Well, I'm just assuming things here, but I'm fairly confident in my thoughts.

I don't think VoDs are available. Maybe later. But the replays are already uploaded somewhere. I just need a minute to remember the website. :D
Edit : More than a minute, actually. I know a guy said during the event that the replays were available, but i can't find them anywhere. Pretty sure the replays will be available there : http://www.millenium.org/starcraft-2/accueil/static/-sc2replay-/ soon, maybe already.

GSL is different than any other tournament. What would TL think if a French WC3 player is really the best in the world? are you trolling? Stephano will never dominates korea (and so the world) because he is too afraid/just want easy money from the EU tournaments that he -at the moment- dominates. I predict big big upsets in the next 12 months for the stephano fan boys

Stephano has a brilliant mind. I want to cut his skull open and examine it.
Totally missed this tournament but it's amazing to see Stephano's results.
