You missed Ret's last game vs Dark Force at IEM apparently. And the 1/1/1 is used by just about every Terran player.
I will admit that Kiwikaki would be easier to recognize that a lot of Protoss, though I think I could show you games from WBC and Kiwi, and you wouldn't be able to guess who was who more than 60% of the time. They both do off the wall things.

It sounds like you both don't understand the astronomical difference in viability between 6 pool and 2 rax and the context of game 4. He got about as lucky as possible with his first 6 pool. Alive denied it without a wall even. There is absolutely no way he thought it had a chance of winning the next game.
And even if it did have some remote chance that it could have worked, it was obviously a really poor strategy with a high probability of immediately losing him the game. You can't act like this isn't sending a huge message to all the viewers.

Double reactor hellion forces the Zerg to react to not die (defensive roaches, whatever) so they're doing atleast indirect damage as in delaying other tech. Plus you can contain the zerg on two bases until mutas/infestors are out or he pushes with roaches.
Plus you're getting your normal infrastructure up behind it. 1 Rax with Techlab, 2 Rax with the reactors from the factories + 2 factories with tech labs for siege mode. Looks pretty standard to me.
If you suicide all your hellions and don't kill anything you'll prolly die, but if you play it smart you don't have to kill the Zerg. (See SuperNova - violet on TDA from last IEM, SuperNova lost because he didn't have siege mode ready when he pushed, not because of his opening)
(Yes, you prolly behind if you don't kill anything, but the game is far from lost/over)
