Can we please stop arguing about France! What Stephano did, right or wrong, was the act of an individual, not an entire nation!

This thread proves that the SC2-community is more like the LoL, CS etc. communities that they despise so much than we care to realize.

I am personally more appauled by the casters remark than by Stephano's actions.
I don't approve of what Stephano did, but I don't really care, it's something I'm not surprised he would do.
It's like being shocked that Idra didn't GG in a game. Stephano goes to his own beat.

We were equally appalled by Tumba's comments and we told him to cut it out. His comments were inappropriate and only made a bad situation worse. I know my decision wasn't perfect, but because Stephano logged off I had to make a pretty quick decision and that was the best I could do. We have barcrafts watching this tournament. I didn't want them to go home without seeing a final.

Best,
Deric Ortiz

no point playing when your eyes are failing you

Good point, but I don't know why Nani gets shit when he acts like this, but Stephano gets less.

Because some of us also defended Nani against GOM making up rules (as confirmed by Slasher)

Again, technically in every tournament regulations should be a exception clause to allow the organizer handle exactly such situations and keeping them on the safe side. Every player is aware they could be disqualified upon virtually any arbitrary reason. However, it will always leave a bad taste giving the significance of situation and proportionality of measure.

1) Stephano could have been directly disqualified, making Kas the definite winner. Catz and Illusion would then compete for 2nd and 3rd place

2) They theoretically could have re-scheduled.

The actual decision seemed rushed since it goes against common industry practice, which would be 1) or 2). It is understandable given the promotional character and community driven funding of the event. But regarding tournament integrity versus show matches it highly shifts towards the latter.

How do you not understand that rescheduling isn't an option?
There are barcrafts and shit being run for this event.
People aren't going to show up at a bar on a monday afternoon to watch one series of starcraft

Did you read the "theoretical"?
And how I stated these two measures can be seen as industry standard responses?
And how the actual decision deviates from that?
And how it also is understandable given the circumstances?
And that it still means that boundaries of tournament integrity are being bent, while in a show-match setting it would be better applicable?

The decision was made to give us the viewers more games. I got np with that.

Quite disappointed in Stephano.. I'm a big fan of his play but he has always come off as a bit of a flaky guy.. understand he was tired and you could see it by the all-ins he was pulling vs Illusion but for him to completely forfeit.. I think the ONOG guys should have made an example of him and completely disqualified him from any prize winnings. It is bad press for the tournament and for Starcraft in general.

Its pretty hilarious that Stephano doesnt care at all, and in a way hes right. He never reads TL nor reddit and couldnt give two fucks what the community thinks about him, his team Millenium doesnt care about their image outside of France so there will be zero consequences from this side.

Just doing his thang, stomping fools left and right and going to bed when hes tired. Boss.

yeah such a boss, ditching all responsibility and only caring about himself. so edgy. sometimes I truly wonder how old some of the people on TL are.

Illusion at his best eerily reminds me of the decisiveness that Korean terrans have - this kid has so much potential.

Are you serious? I don't think the money is the issue here. Your whole reputation as a professional player is at stake. No account of any player in any sport has happened that just forfeited the finals coz he/she was sleepy. That just makes you look like a complete jackass.

yeah, no sport ever delay matches because of bad conditions for the players....

Do you mean it was raining over Stephano's keyboard? get real please, the only delays that are allowed are because of weather or something completely OUT OF CONTROL of the players.

delays, sure, but a tennis player is perfectly allowed to forfeit a game because he doesn't feel it, without being downrated like he lost 10 matches

Eh, not if they haven't got a good excuse. If Federer decided to pull out of a semi final (even in a minor tournament) for no other reason than "he didn't feel it," he would get a crap ton of shit for it. But he knows his responsibilities unlike stephano.

Federer is also paid pretty heavily to show up, so he's able to plan for it well in advance. Not to mention, they don't schedule tennis matches for whenever the previous one ends -- they have specific times to be there and to leave if the match keeps going.

Ugh, all foreign terrans would do well to study how Kas macros in detail. He usually has the supply lead even versus zerg, but how he macroed up a new army immediately after Illusion's pressure was almost sickening.

Shortsighted by stephano, and a bad show after accepting the invitation and the schedule. But let's not forget that there were forfeits in the group-stage as well.

This whole situation is rather funny, personally I don't feel Stephano did anything wrong considering how late the tournament is being played for the europeans. On offline tournaments it's not an issue to play on US times, but for online tournies it's a different beast since that means finals etc are being played in the middle of the night for europeans. Sure, for Kas it's even later and he's still there and I'm personally awake even though it's past 4am, but I still understand his decision. I think it's sad it came to this, but I understand both onog and Stephano. Tumba lost every ounce of what little respect I had for him however and I'll boycot casts by him in the future for sure.

Illusion is a little bit too reliant on his sick micro and multitasking. Think he's gonna get some real nice tournament placements before the year is out though.

It's like watching MVP vs MKP again. Illusion's games against Catz were like MKP vs Kyrix.

The funny thing is LiquidTyler also forfeits but he didnt say any reason whatsoever but nop the TL posters got np at all with it. However when Stephano does it hole TL goes abeshit..

I seen this for so long time now it got nothing todo with what stephano did. It got everything todo that he beats players so horrible that there fans gets angry and he make so much money and people just cant accept it.

jealousy thats the word..
