Grubby will advance if he beats Sound I think. He'll have the same mapscore and overall score if he beats him 2-1, and better mapscore if he beats him 2-0.

The differences between the two situations are really obvious. MC and MKP decided to put on a show for the fans because the game didn't matter, whereas Naniwa decided not to play.

They're job isn't to entertain you. They're competing in a tournament to win money. They're job is to win. Once that objective is achieve or unreachable, they gain nothing from playing additional games.
Have you been to the real world? Where do you think the money comes from? Why do you think people sponsor tournaments? Sure, players play to win but entertainment is part of it. Notice that Stephano also played Socke eventhough they were 0-2. When you join a tournament, you have an obligation to follow and rules and not just do things because you feel like it.

Yes it is. Better entertaiment -> more viewers -> more money from streaming and sponsors
and in most of the sports top athletes get more from sponsorships than the actual tournaments/salaries.

When a tournement invites a player the idea of the tourney's runner is to get it's investors happy.
And this includes to have the public viewer happy.
Less happy viewers means less happy advertisers and less income in the end.
You point might be that the player is payed by it's team.
But as soon as there is tournament environment, this is no more true.
