I just finished the vods, that was far an away the best GSL finals I've ever seen, he's come so far from taking weeklies to code A to code S championship wow, I haven't seen his TvZ in a while I'm just blown away. I feel like Leenock definitely could have played a bit better, but the game knowledge and positioning that Jjakji had ALL GAME EVERY GAME was insane. So many great games, only 1 allin in 6 from either player. wow. Grats man both of these players deserve some major respect.

Congrats; I thought Leenock was the clear favorite, but Jjakji deserved that more than anybody. Seriously just goes to show you how anybody can win at SC2 with enough practice.

Leenock was only a favorite since it is really hard to follow the korean scene outside GSL, it in general makes it hard for the foreign community to follow and judge players who a: Dont go abroad, b: aint heavy hitters in the GSL. It is being helped recently by the ESV korean weekly and the KSL which gives a deeper insight into the korean players who might not be the most known players. Im pretty sure if anyone said before providence that the finals would be leenock vs jjakji im pretty sure they would have been called crazy.

Fascinating part about those games that I thought about was the banelings. Not the burrowed ones, but the ones above ground. They did a surprisingly small amount of damage throughout the series except for 1 or 2 attacks where he flanked jjakji when he was unsieged.
I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but the game that leenock used the least banes in is the game he dominated the most(daybreak), where he opted to spend that gas on quick ling upgrades instead. Maybe pro gamers are getting to a point where they're just negating banelings too much by tank focus fire and marine micro.
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

I went with the flow and liquidbet on Leenock, but I was rooting for Jjackji and I am happy that he won. He is a really talented player, who has shown both creative thinking and extremely solid standard play; even just the way he kept repositioning and re-grouping his marines was astounding). Furthermore, this Cinderella victory will hopefully give NSHoSeo some notoriety and air-time—Sage and possibly Seal arguably are Code A material.
That, and the somewhat smug satisfaction of seeing the western-biased crowd being put off for a bit once again.

Ready to swallow some swords, Artosis? I predicted Leenock, so, I'm right there with you, bro.

Well I picked jjakji during liquidbet and was rooting for him, because I like him and didn't want to be on the leenock bandwagon.

Such a good player. I was a fan of him a while ago and talked about him being amazing and deserving more attention. I'm glad to see that happen because he's an incredible terran player.

Awesome. I was more rooting against Leenock (for taking out MVP) than I was rooting for Jjakji though. Glad I went with Jjakji in my liquidbet as well.

Can we call Jjakji a royal roader? From Code B into Code A straight into Code S, where he won it in the first season.

I don't think there have been any royal roaders in the GSL yet as jjakji was in last season he stayed in code S for placing 3rd in his group, I think the closest have been ganzi (RO4 lost to MVP last season) or if you count open seasons marineking (Finals open season 2).

Anyone who isn't just stunned with appreciation for JJakji after those games probably didn't see the series. He may not play straight up standard as good as MMA/MVP, but it's DAMN close. And more than that, his build selection and understanding of Leenock's intentions (with all the backstabs and baneling mines) was a joy to watch. Especially because Leenock himself was playing so well.

Almost every map Jjakji he took advantage of common zerg overlord scouting locations/timings. He had 2(?) tank push variations. A 1 base with many marines, and a 2 base that hit with stim. Both stemming from a reactor hellion opening.

There were two maps in which he did a marine/hellion/medi type timing on maps where air distance between 3 bases were close but walking distances were far. Great choice.
