By being in the final FruitDealer qualified for the IEM Season VI - World Championship which has $75k in prizes. Hopefully this motivates him to practice more SC2.
I don't know if this is just a fluke, an anomaly, or if FD IS BACK BABY. I'm hoping for the latter, but even if FD was back I feel like DRG would destroy him.

I love FD but he hasn't beaten anyone too notable yet to say 'he's back' in my opinion =[
I predict Gatored to continue being a boss and handily take 3rd place. DRG is the last of my picks to win the tournament remaining ( wtf happened Mana and Top, srsly?) so I want him to beat Fruit dealer. I'd prefer it not to be an outright stomping though as there have been way too many lackluster finals in tournaments lately.
I find it amusing though that DRG opted out of MLG for this, it seems to have definitely have been the right choice as he has a good shot to win the finals and take home more money than the mlg winner will.
* I will be in no way surprised if Fruit dealer 3-0's DRG and will simply remind myself that one does not doubt the heart of a champion.
Stream is on and the gator dude is leading 1-0 over d.Killer. But for whatever reason the sound is mixed with LoL stream and I can't hear anything MrBitter and Rotterdam says. Just muted the sound.

So sad for IEM and ESL that this have to be the same day as MLG. It don´t just take direct viewers but also gives them a weaker lineup and attracts less people that way too.
XlorD gave a very harsh interview to Fragster here (german) where he looks very pessimistic in ESL future regarding SC2 and the level of play at IEM NY. Quotes:
Die seit Donnerstag laufende Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge in New York sei, so der Zerg-Spieler, bisher das "schlechteste Turnier seit Langem."
The since Thursday running IEM in NY is, so the Zerg player, the till now "worst tournament for a long time"
"Es würde mich nicht wundern, wenn die ESL wegen SC2 bald komplett untergeht."
"I won´t be suprised if the ESL perishes completely due to SC2"
Well, it sure isn´t that bad, but I think it´s hard for ESL to expand outside of Europe, especially USA since they already have experienced and big rivals that are established.
ESL will be fine, Lol is huge for them at the moment, though SC2s mid tier stuff don't do that great (CraftCups, Go4SC2s etc) but the Lol mid tier is pretty strong at the moment.
Gator has no answer for the broods. He's chocking hard it seems. It was a lackluster game from the beginning where he lost the scouting probe to 2 zerglings. (Should have mineral-walked!)

Didn´t both IEM (the one in China) and Blizzcon europe invitational did really well?
I don´t think ESL will do badly.I actually don´t know why IEM NY is getting so less viewers than MLG, its not like it was all bad players coming

This event just really had poor timing. No one is to blame here though.

Yeah, but I don't know why the community somehow prefers MLG. I mean MLG its not bad, but of all tournaments MLG gets a lot of hype when compared to other tourneys
Yeah, i have the same feeling, MLG is great and all, but it gets more hype than it deserves, maybe its the number of players and games...but common, up to Orlando they even didnt stream majority of games. Just strange.

Blizzcon Invitational was really amazing and China was good as well. But Blizzcon was advertised by Blizzard themself and at China ESL made great coverage here at TL. They made all LR threads, updated, put it in calender... The players in NY are fine for me, but I just don´t get hyped, don´t know why. It´s not the 4 streams at MLG, I take Rotterdam and MrBitter over most casters at MLG and most matches get casted without I have to swap streams. I like that better.
Like I said, I think Xlord is to pessimistic, but if it happens more often that they have so few viewers... Everything for SC2 ofc, LoL seem to run great. But yes, perhaps it´s just a bad weekend, with DRG, TOP, Mana, Strelok, elfi... I think the level is good enough, but MLG lineup this weekend just can´t get topped.
IEM SC2 events always seem to draw less than the rest (not just this weekend). Never understood why because they have good production and well run live events.

Worse advertisement is my guess.
This is the main reason. ESL just isn't a very well-run organization; they don't have a good sense of how to hype their events, and they exist in their own little bubble isolated from every other eSports organization. When you look at all the other tournaments, they profit through partnership and working with the community.

hmmm yeah now that you mention it. Thats might be the reason. Bad to see their Sc2 events not get many viewers, they have tons of quality games
It's tough because you can't really know if FD is on a pleasant but rare win streak here, or if he's genuinely been putting in some hours and is genuinely reemerging as a solid Korean pro.
Regardless of the truth, I would love to see FD take another big 1st.
DRG playing way too cautiously letting FD get away with ridiculously greedy play. Hope he learns quickly because I'm not a fan of greedy play going unpunished.

??
FD won himself that advantage, some huge banneling hits, and ocne the Mutas are out FD can afford to be more greedy/

He needs to teach Tyler how to play LoL 24/7 and still be gosu at SC2...

I guess thats it - but more important: why did they invite FD (and Killer)? o_O
holy shit, who expected this? Great to see another great zerg back in action!
You just can't play aggressive against a top tier zvz player. ZvZ has a pretty huge defenders advantage. That's why nestea is so scary. You try to play aggressive against him, he holds them off with an economic advantage. You play macro with him, he just out-drone you somehow.

Not sure cause I don't play Z but teching to mutas with 2 banelings and 1 spine crawlers as defense seems quite risky, no? Even Rotterdam was repeating how FD was droning like crazy.

well, the stream problems yesterday killed the event for many people so that they either completely forgot about it or just watch MLG, which has enough streams lol
Who can add tournaments to the calendar and to the right side ON AIR? Can anybody add or only VIPs? Imagine how much money lost just because no one has added this tournament. How did it come to this? IEM used to be the thing everyone was talking about.

It's not unreasonable to defend with that if you know your opponent is not making roaches, and not committing to heavy ling aggression.
I was unsure who to root for at the beginning but I'm now in the clear. DRG please win because FD hasn't changed. He is still his old self: 1) Cheese, or 2) Bluff. He did show solid play yesterday against Gator, though.
Omg, that look on FD's face destroyed my soul for a moment until DRG came over and FD laughed.. Wanted to screenshot that but wasn't fast enough, damn.
Nice win by DRG but a lot of people expected that. I'd say the tourney was the biggest win for Fruitdealer and Gatored who both way over-performed expectations.
LOL bitters optimism is amazing and infectious its a huge parallel to MLG where tastosis was numbed and robotic despite seeing the micro machines game of the tournament (bomber stc).

See, DRG says exactly what I was thinking. He planned to play safe and solid then he realized how greedy FD was playing in game 1, he switched to July mode.

Definitely Gatored for nerd baller or whatever the heck they've got to give away, lol.
Thank you IEM for great tournament. I enjoyed very much. Contrats to DRG and Fruitdealer, as well as d.Killer for their achievements. Special thanks to TT1 for giving his all in his re-Ro8 series after having one. I've gained a new respect for him. Hope he's better prepared for 6 pool openings from Z.
And thanks MrBitter and Rotterdam. I still have trouble telling which one is which, but they're quite enjoyable duo. 4 gate / 3 Rax / 6 pool all the way!
Its kind of ridiculous that there wasnt a stream on the side, i thought it was happening tommorow or something (sometimes IEM's go on until monday) because i didnt see any post, i even checked to see if it had already happened, and nothing =(
