What are you talking about man? They play every day for 7+ hours training for events like this as a profession. Yes, making 5 G's in a few hours of work is rewarding, but you can't disregard all that previous effort and time spent for "this weekend". Was written somewhere the average pro-gamer makes a lot less than minimum wage if I recall correctly.

Inori and Alive were here at MLG too. Discounting players who were at both tournaments we had: Orlando: Bomber, Polt, MKP, HongUn, July IPL3: MMA, Ryung, Sleep, Lucky, Violet. 5 code S players vs 2 code S, 2 code A and 1 code B. Orlando's Korean lineup was definitely better.
And I'm saying that's debatable. The "Code B" players performed better than their Code S counterparts in these tournaments.

IPL had MC and Alive. Only thing MLG was missing was Ryung, MMA and Lucky.
The fields were actually fairly even, for total quality. IPL just had a higher quality set of Pools, but MLG still had to deal with the Legacy rules for the year (which will be different next year).
DRG went and won himself an IEM (smart move, really) rather than compete in MLG. DRG being there would have made it a clearly better field than IPL.

From my understanding of Huk's contract with EG, he makes far more then minimum wage.

Some of the biggest problems are
-Players like Incontrol constantly being seeded into the pools despite loosing all the time (no disrespect to InControl, i know hes a great guy). Basically if you place well in one of the first two MLG's, you can ride that seeding through until the end of the year. -Extended series ruining exitement -Still only bo3 in the semi finals? Are you kidding me!?!?!? The semi's should be bo5 and no extended series -A system where the grand final can be over in 2 games. What a joke... -Grand final should be bo7 no extended series. -Pathetic prize money
The grand final consisted of 2 games. Both games were decided within the first 5 minutes (4 gate micro win and a failed cannon rush). This is a combination of bad maps, bad balance by blizzard and a bad tournament system by MLG.
I can't stress enough how disappointing the final was for this tournament. Idra vs Bomber was true grand final in my eyes...
There's literally one more event before the system changes... AND INC IS NOT SEEDED INTO PROVIDENCE (barring someone from the top 16 turning down a chance at 50k 1st place prize.)
Which means, the last MLG event of this year is going to have a tremendous prize pool.

More != better. I'm talking about the average skill level of Koreans being about the same between the two tournaments, unless you feel that July and HongUn are much better players than Lucky and Ryung.
MKP is better than Ryung. So is polt. So is Bomber. July is also probably better than Lucky. What are you proving by picking out the worst Korean at MLG and comparing him to 2 of the best who were at ipl?
|
|
Did MKP and Bomber actually play each other for 5th and 6th and, if so, is there any way we can watch those games?
|
What does "having the #1 seed" mean for idra going into the finals?
As far as i know, Naniwa has had the #1 seed for a long time, and that just means he got much harder groups each time =/

I am so happy that one of my favorite players (HuK) won this! In terms of the nationality "debate", he has said in various interviews that he considers himself FROM BOTH COUNTRIES. A Canadian-American, or an American-Canadian. Regardless, a foreigner beat down some Koreans at MLG. Hell yeah.

So happy to see HuK win with is father there after not seeing him for a year!

People are really discrediting the stuff here. HuK's micro was so much greater than MC, and HuK even mind-gamed thought out MC. So, seriously, it was an epic final. It wasn't even a (oh, this guy lost because he wasn't good.)
It was HuK knowing MC and what he does since he plays next to him every day.

If that's true, then koreans will ALWAYS be on top, because everybody will just call the best foreigners korean, regardless of where they practice, just because they adopt the korean method of training. True. The whole "discussion" is stupid but you can't jsut make people korean at a whim. Also HuK is soo short next to plott brothers and co. The discussion, as it were, is a silly argument over semantics, which only occurs because people are not willing to look at what's really being discussed. What we learned from this tournament is - 1. "Korean" (ie dedicated, full-time) training is what makes the difference between Koreans and foreigners. it's not. stephano plays just euro ladder for some hours a day and can beat almost everybody. and tbh, just playing in korea won't make u superstar, there is more to it. look at jinro for example. Jinro isn't the best dude to pull out as an example. just because he got 2 semi finals inn GSL. he is inn a slope. just like MC was, just like idra was it is just a little longer. People become better the more u practice. Stephano plays more than 3-4 hours a day. he said that when i play more than 4 hours a day i start loosing. Too become the best u most likely have to play and practice inn Korea. But that do not make you a Korean!
