A referee has made a terrible mistake. We cannot undo that - an undeserving player is in a situation which should not have happened.
Gatored got wrongly seeded into the tournament bracket as the #1 seed instead of DRG who received the #2 player's seed in the bracket. As a result, the two players were placed in the wrong part of the bracket and TT1 played a player he was not supposed to. Unfortunately the error was discovered during the match and not before. The result cannot stand.
I deeply regret that such a mistake happened at such a time, but we cannot undo it. We canceled the match and fixed the bracket layout. Nothing else could be done.
All I can do right now on my behalf and on behalf of the referee is apologise to the players involved in the match, their teams and the fans that followed the match. This should not have happened and I will do everything for this to never happen again.
I regret this has happened and I apologise.
Michał "Carmac" Blicharz P.S. TT1 will receive prize money for placing top 4 regardless of his result in the replayed quarterfinal.
IEM started the TOP vs Gatored quarter-final match ahead of schedule without giving forward notice
4:30 PM: DRG wins 3-0 as well, surprisingly close showing from KiLLeR. Turns out he is pretty good.
3:45 PM: FD wins his series 3-0 over Gatored, then gives an interview saying he is worried about finals because his ZvZ is very bad. Then he immediately gets on his PC and starts playing League of Legends.
2:29 PM: I guess Mr.Bitter says that we'll be on in about 30 mins from now?
1:55 PM: Carmac says the semis will be on as soon as the LoL match on right now is over, whee.
1:47 PM: Well, that's it for quarter-finals. Now to wait and see when they're gonna show the semi-finals... Schedule says 3:00, but they've changed times without prompting more than once this tournament. Also, Carmac got his first autograph request of the tournament, sitting next to TSL_Killer!
12:36 PM: SC2 is on the small-stage for now, I guess we don't get back on the main stage until the semi-finals. On a side note, it was cute to see some LOL pros watching the SC2 match instead of the LOL match!
11:56 AM: Caught up with Gatored and caught a quick interview! Check it in the miscellaneous section of this post.
11:20 AM: Stole someone's LAN cable because there aren't any more connections in the press room. Gatored beat top 3-0 while I was wasting time looking for internet -_-

You beat TOP 3-0, in the semi-finals, how do you feel?
Really good because TOP is a Code S level Terran, and he was a finalist last season, so beating him is a big accomplishment - Especially in a lan setting, so I feel raelly good.
You were defeatd 3-0 by TT1 last night, and then told the brackets were wrong. How did you feel when you heard you had a second chance against TOP?
PvP is my worst match-up, so losing to TT1 was expected because he has pretty good PvP. After finding out I was back in, I was like 'wow, this is happening?' It was pretty unreal, I dont think this has happened before in a major touranment, so it was pretty nice. PvT is my best matchup, so even though Koreans are very good I still felt more confident against him.
So, walk us through the games.
Game one was a macro game on Tal'Darim, where I went quick double forge and he went for three rax expand. I won the big fight in the middle pretty easily because I had the better upgrades from double forge. Game two I knew what he would do because he played MaNa on that map, and he did the same marine-hellion elevator into 1/1/1 build. I held off the drop pretty easily, and the 1/1/1 transition too. The last game I four gated, and I knew it would work because his build didn't have enough marines, even though he had two bunkers.
Your next opponent is FruitDealer, how do you feel going into that matchup? Were you impressed with his play against TSL_Killer yesterday?
My PvZ is not as good as my PvT, but it's still a pretty good matchup of mine. I like to forge FE and he likes to punish that, so we'll see how that goes. I thought he played really well vs Killer, but I don't think Killer played it right. I think I can beat him.
Assuming you make it through to the finals, who would you like to face from the other side of the bracket?
I want to face elfi, even tho ughit's a pvp, because he's not confident in the matchup and I know his style, so I think I can beat him.
There's been a lot talk about how Americans are bad, but they've been doing really well in this tournament?
I think the Americans are the worst out of EU/KR/NA because they don't put in the practice or the effort. But I've put in a lot of practice for this tournament, so I think I deserve to be I am in this tournament.
The last month I've been practicing a lot on the KR server and I feel like I've gotten a lot better because of it. In the two weeks leading up to this tournament, I practiced about eight hours or so a day. If I wouldn't have practiced so much on KR, I don't think I would have gotten this far.
Maybe if they had teamhosues in the US and they put in more effort, they'd do better
So, what are your tournament plans for the rest of the year?
I'll be competing at MLG Providence. I've taken a semester off school right now, and we'll see how things go in the upcoming months. If things go well, maybe I'll keep focusing on gaming, we'll see. school.
Alright, thanks for the interview. Any shoutouts?
Thanks to our sponsors NE-SE and Maxx Integration, and a big thanks to my fans!
this is such an emberrasing thing to happen and totally unprofessional first its a joke that a referee makes a mistake like that second its ridicolous that they dont have a system that automatically shows the group in the right order after the matches were played (if they do its even more of a mistake from the ref) third its also not understandable that this wasnt discovered before, i mean is there litteraly one guy checking who advances and none looks deeper into it???

There were probably one referee for each group, you suggest there should be more? It would be ridiculous for real if they had a new referee or several even for every match...

Because the stream is down
Good point, they probably knew the stream would be broken so they didn't bother putting the tournament on the calendar or upcoming events.

wow TOP transferred a bunch of SCVs into the Protoss army.
Getting an error from that and the streams from the esl page are down for me as well. With like 2k viewers on a saturday afternoon for IEM, yes, there appears something to be wrong.
On October 16 2011 00:02 duck.fit wrote: what happened in game 1? I missed it
I missed the first 5-10 mins but Gatored just defended like an absolute boss against multiple drops, went twilight tech first against ghosts but still kept the advantage consistently, when they were both about maxed he just crushed the 4th, then managed to get a perfect concave when moving back across the map and destroyed the army too. From there he just played super safe, pylons and vision everywhere, not letting TOP expand for ages and not letting him saturate when he finally did, using defensive DTs.
Took him a while to deal the killing blow but he played very well, I am most impressed.
Everyone loves to see 1-1-1 get crushed. I'll defend playing to win till my dying breath, but I will still root for the player not sticking to one base.
Still waiting for people to say that Top is jetlagged on Day 3 of a tourney, or that he's not an "elite" Korean. Then we can all laugh and make fun of them.
man, wtf is going o with this gatored guy?! beating dongraegu 2:1 and now leading 2:0 against top while even beating the oh-so-mighty korean 111. really impressing me!

I'm sure TT1 would destroy him.
I'm confident gatored has bronze level PvP, because his other match-ups seem like he is like one of the world's best players. That has to be holding him back.
I'm watching on http://tv.esl.eu/de/ without any problems. And I usually have big lag issues with JTV (on 20 Mbit internet). Dunno what's going on that some people can't watch.

Again. Download ultrasurf and enjoy the stream. Ultrasurf isnt big and you dont have to install something. And most of the time it works if streams dont like you.

I'm just getting a still picture of whatever was on the stream the moment the page loaded. I usually don't have any problem.
Thank you so much! This works while everything else doesn't work (other streams just give a static low quality picture, also didn't try ultrasurf - that might work too, but I dislike proxies for streams).
Gatored showing some great play thus far. Fruit Dealer's had good results, but it's not like he's untouchable. I think the American has a legit chance to win this.
Why do we not have ingame sounds but some sound of people talking on the back ground? Looking at this game is so boring because of the NON sc2 sounds, or is it just me?

TT1 getting 4th place money regardless of how things pan out seems like a good result. He gets credit for his win, but everyone else doesn't get screwed over due to the one misplayed series.

The interview with Gatored took place after this second Quarterfinal match (he had two quarterfinal matches, the first one being the mistake against TT1)... right? Currently the post says after his semi-final match.

I don't know what's more impressive, that he beat TOP at all, or that he did it 3-0. You would think a player like TOP has the chops to adapt and win at least a game.

Well, considering TOP just beat arguably the best foreign PvT'er in MaNa yesterday (with neither of them playing very well), it could just be an anomaly.

TOP didn't play well, while Gatored did. Period.
I would still put Korea's PvT as better than foreigners', but it's the closest matchup to the Koreans.ON the other hand, Korea's TvX is just sooooo much better than anyone else's.
Wow, been watching MLG and now I hear that Gatored takes out TOP? Awesome. Now he only has to play FruitDealer and then a rematch vs DRG. Hard to think of a more difficult road to 1st place in this tourney.

Wow Gatored. It is so good to see some fresh faces emerging in the NA scene. With him , Trimaster last MLG and the recent resurgence of Idra, things seem to be getting better over there, which is great
TT1 was so far ahead... and still lost. Muta play really suits up DRG well vs protoss, he is known for perfect muta control, can do with them a lot of damage.
Stream is LAGGING HARD for me but anyway I catched some action here and there and again DRG going mutas vs protoss. I watched a lot of him in last couple of months and he never went with them zvp... thats nice that he is trying new things to work for him.
TT1 dropped 3 proxy gateways, but DRG sees em all with that sixth sense scout. TT1's move was more or less deduced when he cancelled his own gate in his main.
Wow Elfi almost beat Killer, and Gatored going 3-0 over TOP is insane. He never shows up to tournaments (other than the WCG online qualifier from what I've seen, which he did qualify for) but he is taking down top korean players (no pun intended). Now we will either have fruitdealer, or a completely random foreigner in the finals. That's pretty exciting.

DRG 3 - 1 TT1.
game 1 : DRG 6 pools, TT1 scouts at once and fends it off at his nat, but then DRG transitions into mutas and TT1 kinda screws up both his attack and his defense. DRG wins.
game 2 : DRG makes zergling runby against TT1's FFE, and the game pretty much ended afterwards. TT1 made some aggressions, but ended up losing to mutas anyway.
game 3 : DRG 6 pools, and the stream crashed for me too, but later it seemed to be base race with zerglins and zealots, and TT1 barely wins.
game 4 : DRG makes another zergling runby against TT1's FFE, and pushes back the first attack by TT1 with roach-hydra, and TT1 builds up a few collosi and attempts to attack again, which turned out quite well, but still got crushed by DRG's reinforcements

6 Pooling against Protoss is almost standard on some maps in Korea where it is assumed that the protoss will FFE like Tal darim. they are very efficient at transitioning out teching up being ahead on bases and just winning.

I thought those are supposed to be more like 8~10 pools? As seen in Game 1, DRG got quite behind after his 6 pool was scouted and countered with a single cannon. It was TT1's game to lose from there on. (and he went on to lose, lol)

8~10 pools can always be defended at protoss's natural. 6 pool, on the other hand, cannot be defended on protoss's natural if it doesn't get scouted first time.

Game 2: 6 vs 9 Shattered Temple. Gatored opens stargate expo vs pool first, no real damage done. FD takes the gold quickly, makes hydras. Gatored moves into colossus, FD makes the same mid-game muta switch hes been doing all tournament and wins with them by picking apart Gatored's base slowly.

LOL DRG with 9 pool
IEM has Fruitdealer, it is bound to be better :p
I am pretty happy to see FD do so well in this.
And wow Killers Roaches must have more HP because he has pulled so many miracle defenses
At least I got to watch the last DRG games after the streaming fiasco. Congrats to both DRG and Fruitdealer for advancing to the finals. Did DRG play any Terran in this tournament, btw?
bleh after those amazing defenses I thought killer could get the hang of the game but the two midgame attacks were clearly his doom, He should have been more patient I think. but well. nice 2nd and 3rd matches.
Gator is the MVP of this IEM for sure. Beating two of the Korean favorites after the drawing drama. Poor TT1 but he fought well against DRG and I felt like TT1 certainly would have a chance if he meets DRG again. TT1 just needs some more practice against the 6 pool. XD But seriously mad props for TT1 putting up a valiant effort against DRG after showing off his awesome PvP skills (which unfortunately did not count) It must have been really shitty after he thought he was in Ro4.

3:45 PM: FD wins his series 3-0 over Gatored, then gives an interview saying he is worried about finals because his ZvZ is very bad. Then he immediately gets on his PC and starts playing League of Legends.
Hi guys, I don't know where to put this and i didn't want to start a new thread but there was a little behind the scenes challenge by carmac to TSL Killer. Nothing serious of course. I didn't get the beginning of how it began but basically, we were saying hi to sangho and carmac came by so we were all talking for a bit, Then killer looked at carmacs jersey, and pointed at the part that says liverpool football club. Carmac says what? and killer responds by going thats not a GSL badge, you have no gsl badge. This goes on for a bit with carmac responding and then killer basically kept saying you should have a gsl badge on that jersey. So carmac finally says to sangho, let me borrow your jacket then. Sangho says what? my jacket? carmac says yes let me borrow your jacket and wear it on stream. Sangho turns him down going no i can't take it off and give it to someone, then something about him giving it to people and the coach getting mad, though he was probably joking. Carmac then says it's okay youre a *** (you'll see in video i don't want to get in trouble on the site.) Sangho goes what's that? i dont understand. Carmac points to his pants and goes, do you have boy parts or girl parts, you have girl parts youre a **** Sangho goes nooo im not a ***. So carmac goes okay then you'll let me borrow jacket? It goes back and forth a bit and then i finally started the video since it was hilarious. Heres the link, I dont know if you can hear the rest of the audio too well but hope you guys enjoy a little behind the scenes shenanigans.
It's all good man i'm just glad you can kinda hear what they're saying with all the backround noise going on lol, sorry about the fruit dealer pic Hope you got to take one later on if not i'll try to help you do it tomorrow if the opportunity comes around. I'll be around tomorrow for the finals, then probably go to that nyc barcraft event for the rest of mlg if there is still time.
Even though its exciting to see fruitdealer play, its a big disheartening and concerning that he was pretty much playing LoL all weekend after his matches.
Having the Dignitas LoL team choose to watch SC2 with us on the side stage rather than watch the semifinals of LoL on the main stage made up for some of that though.
Game 1 builds mostly marauders vs zealot archon Game 2 1/1/1 all in but putting marines infront of scvs so they all die Game 3 doesnt scout and even after he realize hes being 4 gated he continues building svc instead of units.

Because he is seeded for providence and IEM new york had 6500 for winning where as MLG had 5k. He decided to take the almost guaranteed 6500$ where as MLG he isn't as guaranteed to win with all the sick players in it and if he did would be 5k.
Also the fruitdealer saying he's worried because his zvz is bad then goes on a pc and goes to play LoL made me laugh rofl.
One of the best parts of IEM (besides DRG winning it all) was when Wax ended up eating an apple right behind the casting stage while DRG was being interviewed. Caught a picture of the main screen using my phone. It was hilarious.
PS. who was wearing the TL esports t-shirt that was joking around with me when that remote controlled robot with a dudes face on screen came rolling by us.
