It's less about calling a canadian, brazilian, peruvian or argentinian an american specifically but more about a general geographical classification. Sometimes people just say "European" instead of "German", maybe because they want to emphasize the fact that they come from that continent or because they're not entirely sure which exact country they come from but only that they come from europe. If I just want to say that the person comes from the continent of America (or the landmass of north and south america combined if you will), I say from America. Not because I wanna put a canadian into the same locker as a US-American, but because I wanna emphasize the geographical landmass rather than the political state. I hope that makes sense, rather badly explained. | ||
