The Korean Invites are different from the last announcement. So i think MC is replacing MKP and therefore we have different Groups and a Idra vs Mc rematch in Group A.
Group A and B will be played on wednesday, but gamescon is only open to public from thursday to sunday.
This is going to be casted by RotterdaM and MrBitter I assume? Can't wait for this event, some awesome players. (hope for some Idra vs MC/Huk/MaNa action huhu :D )
Unfortunately we have to replace one of our recently announced Korean invites for next week's Global Challenge Cologne. MarineKing won't be able to travel to Germany. Nevertheless, his substitute isn't less popular or successful.
Two-time GSL champion MC from SK Gaming and oGs is not only a great addition to our tournament, but will also even out the overall ratio of Protoss and Terran with 6 representatives each. MC won't be placed in group D. He will start in group A and PuMa moves to group D instead, to avoid having two groups with three players of one race. This was done in agreement with all affected players.

I was considering going to Germany with a couple of friends (22 hours travelling time, atleast) seeing how MKP was going there. I'm so happy that we didn't book the tickets!!!

Ahh thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sence (esp the races thing)
why they invite huk?! he got outplayed by some noname zerg in wcg quali and couldnt get past his group at assembly. there are like several better protosses in korea atm and better foreigners who are currently in korea... dont get it ;-/

Only foreigner in Code S. Highest prizemoney winning foreigner. Won the most recent Dreamhack and Homestory Cup. Placed highest of all foreigners at last MLG.
Good players lose games sometimes. Average players beat good players sometimes. Average players don't show consistent results, good players do. HuK shows the most consistent results of any foreigner except for maybe Naniwa, but has the upper hand over Naniwa in the last 3-4 months anyway.

There were Canadian WCG qualifiers? If so, where can I find more results/infos?

its awesome when you get the easiest road in the bracket twice in 2 weeks(kinda like his group pool right now *cough*)
but more importantly, its bc tourneys are turning into a popularity contest. they just want overall views, not good games. hence the bullshit of putting MC into the same group as IdrA AGAIN they can say "oh, we asked the players involved and they said it was ok". but do you think IdrA really wants to play him again out of the gate? seriously doubt it.

HuK played in the USA qualifiers, which is possible because he has two passes, American and Canadian. Lost in the finals of one of the qualifiers to RGN.giX I think.

Are you seriously arguing that HuK is being inviting because of popularity? Look at all the people in this competition. The only person with more SC2 achievements is MC.
Group A: IdrA and MC. Both are good players and currently slumping. This tournament will be their first step back to their true level.
Group B: SeleCT and Killer. Sorry Socke, I love your play. But in the last weeks you performed too sloppily. You have 2 good terran opponents (which is very hard with the current 1-1-1 situation) and a Korean.
Group C: Huk and Tarson. Nerchio is still too inexperienced for big offline tournaments. But I will be happy when he proves us otherwise.
Group D: Holy shit! Strongest group by far. 2 of the top 5 foreign Protoss players, invicible PuMa and at last but not least Stephano. Nearly impossible to make a safe prediction here. I would say PuMa and MaNa will advance.
MC!!!!! Yes! This should help him get some confidence back and he always shows great games at foreign tourneys instead of getting all inned by T every game :DDD

absolutely not, Huk's very good and more than deserves to be there, and even though, there is a serious lack of good korean protoss, notice how Tester and/or Alicia arent there? theres a reason (unless im wrong and HuK qualified to get there, but im under the impression that he's one of the "Korean Invites")

Well that worked out pretty well for the viewers and EG. We get to see Idra vs MC which is always good and no team kill in Idra vs Puma like there would have been before.

Going to be an awesome event anyhow, gogo MC!!
22 hrs travel time from sweden.. what tickets are we talking about now? running tickets? :D
Last time I saw European terrans do the 1/1/1 it was terribly excecuted (Tarson and Thorzain). Yeah sure if they could do it like most korean terrans they would probably roll Mc but I don't think that will happen.
I'm expecting Huk, MC or Puma to take it. They're way above everyone else in terms of skill level. Well, maybe not Huk.. he seems really inconsistent lately.

Huk is in Nerchio group and considering huk had huge problems vs Stephano recently I dont expect huk to beat Nerchio

Well we haven't seen a game of Puma since NASL and MC has done pretty poorly in GSL and GSTL so I don't really expect too much from any of them. Although it wouldn't be a surprise if they finish on top it's not totally unlikely that they won't imo.
On August 13 2011 22:39 Tofugrinder wrote: mc invite again -.-
why do _all_ tournaments feel that they need to invite MC. Sure he might be a great player, but there are many great players in korea.
MC is one of the few Korean players with a sponsor for travelling to foreign tournaments. Also, since he's been eliminated already from code S he has the free time whereas Nestea, MVP, MKP, etc don't. Then there's the small matter of MC being one of the most popular Koreans to the foreign scene.

None of the 4 Korean trained players have any momentum going into this tournament so that's a bit of a moot point. MVP hadn't accomplished anything of note in several months leading up to MLG Anaheim, yet he still dominated the opposition. Puma was a nobody before his NASL win. Moon had fallen completely out of the GSL yet took 2nd at Dreamhack and IEM world championship. History tells us the Koreans or Huk are the heavy favorites until the actually lose. For me I'd say Puma is favorite since he is very strong against protoss.

Because MC is one of the few top koreans who have sponsors who fly them to europe.
well yeah recently, but MC has been the one or one of the korean invites for the last couple of months. and the sponsorship with SK is only about 1 month or so old.
guess it makes sense for IEM since mc is always a fan favourite and ensures many watchers

Tempted to place MC at fourth even because he just looks out of it lately but who knows maybe he'll be back to old form.
MC is slumping for a short bit atm but still...Nerchio beating MC? :/ come on man :p MVP bombed out of group stages and lost his 2 GSTL ace matches...thne won MLG. And now he's the favorite to win GSL this season. A bad season in GSL can be misleading I think.
On August 14 2011 03:53 gehgrfhgrh wrote: Too bad MarineKing was replaced by MC :/ You'll see another tournament dominated by koreans. I hope MC rapes IdrA as always.
I hope Idra will pick up his game and Select will continue to improve. Other than that I'm sure the koreans will continue to do well. Interested to see Huk's performance as well.
When Puma goes to the US I think he will lose his skill, but right now I think he could be in code S with the top terrans like bomber and MVP he is way underrated. You can tell he was a top BW player from how well he played against MC in NASL finals.
Am I the only one really disturbed that MKP manages to cancel a foreign event again? It is at least the third time that he did such a thing. Why does event management still invite him? Really unprofessional from him >_< Except it is because of GSL, but then they shouldn't even consider him.
On August 15 2011 12:57 Klamity wrote: What other games will be played at this event? Seems strange to have it span across five days.
The major tourneys are Starcraft 2 and League of Legends.
And, of course, we can't forget the DOTA 2 championship.
But Gamescom is much more than just a tournament. Its more like a tradeshow. Lots of big developers will be here showing off their new stuff. Its basically a giant, 4-day nerd party.

Group C and D looks to close! Anyone can come out on top from either of those groups! Stephano, GLaDe and Nerchio for top 3... :D going to be SICK!! :D
ESL shouldn't invite all the people that decline last minute ! I think it's not so easy to get a top player ready on such short notice ... suxx for the organizer

A Z/TT/P group, for example.
There are many good zergs to pick from, Sheth + the ton of good EU zergs

XlorD would be a nice choice, I know Bitter was particularly impressed with his sick ZvZ vs DeathAngel on Meta recently.
Killer replacing Idra in group A...MC should easy win this group even more now but then again if its an upset it's even bigger. Mr. Bitter was right, surprising pick.
Very surprising to see Killer getting the spot. Especially since the event on the other side of the world, but will definitely be interesting to see how he does in such a stacked tournament.

Looks like they really wanted it to be someone from America... Was he chosen randomly since Fenix and TT1 didn't have time, or was Select, Idra, Fenix, TT1, killer the order in which they finished the NA qualifiers for gamescom?

IdrA cancelled, so we asked fnatic if they would send one of their two players. But Fenix is currently busy in Korea (thus unavailable) and they didn't want to send TT1. Dignitas immeadiately agreed to send KiLLeR when we asked them last night.

I realy dont see who you are speaking about.
Don't forget about Ret!! Yes he is European.
Yea people allways forget Ret that he is infact dutch its abit strange!
Group D is ridiculous, especially considering how well all of them perform at offline events. PuMa must be the favourite after his NASL run but:
SaSe - 17-0 record for LAN event group stages (Gathering, WCG Sweden, DH Summer, HSC3, CPL Shenyang). Seemingly invincible vP.
Mana - PvT specialist but has looked really strong in the other matchups as well lately. Finished 2nd at Assembly Summer two week ago, knocking out HuK and NaDa in the process. Always does well at LANs.
Stephano - Another vT specialist. 2nd highest winning % on the European ladder, but also showed how well he can perform at LANs with his Assembly 3rd place finish.

dignitas.KiLLeR take top 4th place in qualy to gamescom, he won a place in blizzcon in LA battle net invitational, and he won recently WCG Chile and got trip to WCG finals in Korea...
This will surely be great event, I still remember last year's tournament filled with reapers I'm a bit sad to miss some of the action because I'll be at work, hopefully there will be VODs.
Also, group D is INSANE, all of these players are on roll and would probably advance in easier group. Hopefully, we will see foreigners do better against the Koreans then @ MLG.
not so many terran super stars this time. that's unfortunate that marineking doesn't come. it's nice that some new faces (beastyqt and diestar) will come to scene though. i wish them best of luck! hope old good tarson and kas overcome their bad fortune in lan tournaments and show good results. looking forward for the korean masters puma and select to give these zergies and protoss a beating - if european terrans can't win a major tournament, let some guests do the job! aside from terrans, huk and mc are nice guys. despite playing protoss =p
Just got done with rehearsal. This event is looking so incredible. If you've ever been to an MLG imagine something similar to that. But instead of filling up 1 big hall in a convention center, it's filling up 10.
There is so much cool stuff here. It's going to be a great week.

And as you are thinking about watching it, you don't seem to have anything better to do anyway.
I'm going mad for days now because I can't go to gamescom and this guy doesn't even know if he wants watch or not. AHHHHH. By the way, IEM is not the only thing at gamescom: WCG Germany finals, EPS IFNG, ESET Summer Finals, XMG Series Finals are all at gamescom, Dota2 tournament, etc... There is so much awesome stuff, please if you have the chance to be there or even watch it, celebrate it as hard as you can.
$21,000 is the prize pool for all the IEM events leading up to the World Championships (which you have to qualify for) where the prize will be upped to $75,000.
Not small.
Sad to see no IdrA, but honestly he hasn't been in the best shape lately.
Super excited to see how Sase plays after training in Korea.
Really eager to see Puma, since he hasn't really been heard from since winning NASL.
And, of course, my Zerg fanboyism is sooo stoked to see Nerchio and Stephano.
North Americans are a little bit disconnected from the European scene, but the most recent IPL should serve as a great indicator of the general skill level over here.
Top 4, all from EU.
Nerchio and Stephano are two of the best.
Aside from all that, this is fucking Gamescom. The largest video game tradeshow/convention in the world.
Ever been to an MLG?
You know the big room where the whole event takes place?
There are 10 of those reserved for Gamescom. Every major developer, every anticipated title... It's all here. I played Diablo 3 today. I'll play Skyrim (the new Elder Scrolls game) tomorrow. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Guild Wars 2.
Dota 2. (and their million dollar tournament)
Console games, PC games, handheld games, mobile phone games (lol, there's seriously an angry birds booth right by the Starcraft main stage)

Rotti and Bitter I hope!
Yep, Rotti and me.
Going to be such a sick event. I've become a Polish fanboy so I hope Tarson and Nerchio do well.
Also really stoked to see MC at another foreign event. Protoss could use a hero right now. ^^
You are most certainly forgetting MaNa! ;p
LOL just what I thought. He's easy one of the best foreigners right now. Mana, Sen, Dimaga, Huk and Naniwa are the strongest right now imo. Sad to see him getting so little credit ;_;

It will be, but we are not live yet. Go to www.esl.tv tho!
Can't wait for the MrBitter & Rotti show, a great caster combo IMO. Both high-masters players, bording on grandmasters. Ya can't find much more knowledgeable casters than that, besides Artosis.

hehe gl Hope he will do well would be cool to see Chile on the sc2 map:D
G1: Killer got completely outplayed by MC's superior micro with Voidrays+Phoenix. It was painful watching Killers entire Hydralisk army melted away by Gravity/Phoenix.
G2: MC thought the same thing - he'll outplay the opponent with his superior micro. This time Killer was prepared for it and went mass-sporecrawler. Killer used one of his Aces in the sleeve, Ultralisks. MC was not prepared for it with Coloss/Blstalker and thus lost.
G3: MC played macro-style with immortal/coloss vs Killer and MC had the game from the start. The commentators think that when MC makes DT he goes all in, thats not Korean Code-S style, they rarely do all in, if a cheese fails they transition to macro...
I don't blame him. Doesn't look like he's in shape, but I'm sure there's another reason for it.

seriously,. as soon as she pops out with bruue fammee, and blahblah i immediately turn iem off... sad but true....
Complaining is going to do nothing. Do what I do: press the mute button or switch the channel until it's done. Cloud, ToD, Rotti and Bitter will hold the fort down.
dignitas.KiLLeR FGWITINGH!!! Somebody please calm him down! or gime some way to get in touch with him lololol he needs the support from somebody from his country.

If you think MC had game 3 from the start you are completely mistaken. His DTs did very minimal damage,MCs schrine got scouted. It was killers bad army control that lost him the game, trying to go for a big 2 base roach attack (alomost all in)

Nerchio stop trolling and do some practice instead, we're rooting for you!!! :D
these kelly-flamers are annoying... she's obviously sour grapes to them, so they flame her. she does a decent job, asks good questions and i can understand her as a german, so i think you just have to improve. for both reasons.

Agreed. Kelly does a pretty fine job. This flaming and hate has to disappear from e-sports in general if you want the scene to grow more professional. Team liquid has taken a great step by banning all inappropriate posts, more need to follow that example.
