This. Is. Awesome. I have been waiting for a high level 2v2 tournament and guess who's casting? Orb!!! A top caster, and actually allownig me to see the different team colors. Thanks! We feel the exact same way! The 2v2 community gets no love so we're trying to help.

You and your teammate need to have a z33k account set up to participate. It takes 2 minutes to set up and is a one time thing.

can you change the starting time to 19:30 PDT so it's not too early in the morning for SEA players?

The problem with starting it that late is that we delay our casting until much later at night (that is 22:30 on the west coast and we only cast the RO8 and beyond). We wouldn't be able to start our cast until at least 11:30 at night for people on the east coast in NA.
I wouldn't object to pushing it back an hour or so in the future (to 1830), but I can't change it for the first week. I don't want players that are already registered to miss out because of a schedule change. Does an extra hour make it better for you guys over in SEA?

Even if you see the tournament hit 32, don't hesitate to register. Odds are some people won't show up. And if we go far enough passed 32, I'll increase the team limit to 64.

Inaugural tournament is tonight guys! We got a ton of great 2v2 teams signed up and a bunch of GM players. You can check out whose signed up by going here.
Tournament starts at 8:30 PM EDT. If you are signed up, don't forget to check-in before the tournament starts! The check-in period will be open starting at 8:00 PM EDT. You must check-in in order to compete.
The broadcast starts at 10:00 PM EDT and should feature some epic 2v2 games. Don't forget to check it out!
EDIT: to clarify, BOTH players must check-in for each team.

Yup. Not 100% sure what it is right now.
I'm going to try to talk to orb after this match and see if we can figure out whats going on.
I doubt it's his computer because he streams 1v1 games in HQ without any issues whatsoever (including when it gets to 200/200 fights).
Hopefully we can get it fixed.

Unfortunately one of the players had internet problems. He disconnected from g1 immediately and hasn't been able to get his internet back up.
Sorry about the issues guys but we are going to have to delay the finals until tomorrow.
I'll update this thread tomorrow with a more specific time.
Other than that, week #1 went off without a hitch. Our finalists are:

All 4 of them are either high masters or GM. So we should be in for an epic series.

Why can't there be a random masters 4v4 tournament? You really have to deal with brain dead people while working up to there >.<

Problem with 4v4 tournaments is that there just isn't much depend for it. And competitive 4v4 is pretty much nonexistant anyways. We have 4v4 tournaments, but they're open to everyone just because it is meant to be for fun.

This is a cool tournament and I enjoyed watching the games, thanks for putting it on.
My only complaint would be the gameplay in the VOD posted on Orb's page is pretty stuttery. It's not an internet issue IMO because his voice sounds fine.

Yea. We were having some stream issues for a few games last week. But it fixed itself later on in the cast. The last few rounds went perfectly smooth.

Starting next week, we will be running the tournament the day before we actual broadcast.
The tournament will now start on Tuesday evenings at 01:00 GMT (+00:00). The check-in period will start at 00:30 GMT (+00:00).
The broadcast will be the next day starting at either 00:00 GMT (+00:00) or 01:00 GMT (+00:00) (undecided atm). It will include the RO8 and beyond. This will allow us to get you guys more games (the RO8 will be made a BO3 instead of BO1).
And hopefully this will allow us to broadcast the finals live every week (as we can schedule a specific time for the finalists).
End result: more games, no replay screwups and hopefully live finals.

It's because the tracker wants everything in UTC for some reason. So I have to put it as thursday (something like 2-3 am utc when we start). It was also submitted before the schedule change.

Big battles were so laggy it was impossible to watch. In the second match pp vs zt with team eg the final engagement happened and literally you only saw like 1 frame every 3 seconds units were so jerky.

Twitch.tv was unfortunately having some issues that night. Streams were laggy across the board. You can download the replays and watch them.
You'll find them in the brackets (simply click on a match and it will take you to a page with the replays). My suggestion would be watch the replays and leave the vods open for commentary if some parts are too laggy.

Hey guys,
So we're going live at 8 pm (as usual). But a slight change. Redmagejr and Ayesee are going to be at MLG Orlando (they just arrived) and will not be able to cast (don't have their equipment with them).
So instead, we're going to have winterborn and topmattress from Clan RH (Relentless Heroes) casting. They're a new up-and-coming casting crew and won't disappoint . They haven't had much experience with 2v2s before but I'm sure they'll catch on quick. So the stream is going to be on z33k.tv instead.

Finished watching the VODs now. Great production and especially a nailbiting finals, although I miss the EG-team.
One question, could you invite one or two friends to watch the replays alongside, watch, not cast. That way you have more eyes on the look-out for an incoming drop, offensive warp-in, a nuke or a Nydus. It´s frustrating when watching NASL and I see one player charging into the frontal defences, while the caster commentates about upgrades at the other side of the map.

When watching the NASL? Did you mis-speak or mis-post?
Either way, I'm not really sure what you mean by having someone watch alongside. Like during the broadcast have a 3rd/4th person watching the replays as well and let the casters know when something important is happening? I'm not sure how they would convey anything to the casters without speaking.

Yes, I meant NASL, the big leagues have the same problem, with casters missing important developments. It´s frustrating to hear Gretorp talk about upgrades when I look at the mini-map and see the final battle taking place.
Depending on the set-up, the others could inform the casters via an irc-chat or similar. I don´t know how your set-up is, but if just one caster gets warnings about impending drops/cheese/techbuildings then that´s enough to catch it. They could even be a few seconds ahead of the stream, giving the casters more time.
I don´t know, just a suggestion.

I'll talk to them and see how much of an issue that would be. It's hard syncing 2 people, let alone 3-4. But I'll see what they say and see if I can find people to do it as well.

First match, second game, during one engagement there was a Nuke going down, but the Templars just morphed into Archons en-masse, took the nuke and cleaned up. I don´t think I´ve ever seen anyone just weather a nuke and win the engagement like that.
Amazing games, it´s great that someone is being serious about the 2v2-scene.

And yes that is two korean teams. TSL.aLive and Heart played tonight as one team. The other was ChiTa (formerly of Prime) and Mystik, both part of the team Psw.

Up to the RO8 sure. Beyond that I would ask the stream to shut off because the games will be cast from replays.

Quick update.
Week 19 was played out a few days ago. I am still looking for someone to cast it (holidays, most people are on vacation/busy). Not sure when we will play it out. Week 20 tournament will be played on Monday.

I don't think there is a problem with the amount of people participating. There are usually 20 or so teams out of a possible 32. If there is anything lacking the advertisers are looking at it would probably be the number of people viewing the stream.

also there would be more viewers. nerski did it on a weekend and without expsoure it got more people.

If we were to have other sponsors (or coL hops back on board), of course we would try again .
I think the most logical day/time would be a Saturday afternoon (european evening) tournament. This would be ideal for viewer/player bases.
Part of the problem with 2v2 is that blizzard (and no one else for that matter) will create maps for it. Map pool is stagnant and boring.

Yea, it would nice to have this again. In the meantime there's the Plat 'n' Up 2v2 Tournament. We tried a Saturday time this week but few teams showed up ;_;. So we're having monday night again if anyone would like to show up!
We may try the Saturday time again another week to get the Europeans involved.

Can't we try having the tournament without a prize until we get another sponsor? I'd still be happy to watch and participate even without a prize. Maybe some people only play for that potential $50 so you will lose some people, but I'm sure many would still join.

Uh, well that's kind of what the Plat 'n' Up 2v2 Tournament is right now. We don't have a prize pool yet and we're still looking to get some sponsors.
