If you give the NA players a scene where they only compete with NA players, perhaps the scene here will grow. But it will be worse than the korean scene hands down, and a joke to anyone who's actually interested in good competition. You need to play better players to be as good as those players. If the NA scene doesn't get exposed to koreans, then we're going to fall behind.

There's already IPL which doesn't include Koreans. Guess who won? Someone that lived in Korea for many years.

Yeah let's all pay 25$ and put a couple ten-thousand corporate money into a league. Then continue to invite some semi-pro people play casually a computer game to give them a luxurious lifestyle.

Why oh why oh why do people take the name of the league so goddamn literal. The only people or players who would agree with CatZ are the people who know they cannot compete with the best. They also want to win a chance to win a huge prize without putting in the effort or having to deal with the best.
the issue is not the player/games. the issue is their production and how they present their product to their viewers. i think the frustration of the production just leads us to be frustrated with the games.
it's aggravating having to wait 30 minutes to an hour between games for silly hype videos. a good production team should know how to capture an audience's attention. 15 minute long hype videos per player is not the way to keep a viewers attention. especially when editing in the losses. it makes me think that the production team is full of amateurs in so many aspects.

Losers bracket also could fill that 12 hours they had, where 6 hours were filler.
NASL flew everyone out except for the open bracket winners, who got like $500 stipend for travel instead
everyone else got free flight and hotel
it's one of the few mistakes they didn't make
Where did you get that idea from? NASL provided everyone with a $500 travel stipend only and didn't pay for any flights or hotels.

giving NA players a crutch isnt gonna solve anything. They just gotta step pu their training. The koreans sacrifice alot of their personal time and postpone school and work to live in houses to train living only to play starcraft. Until the NA pros do the same they arent gonna get anywhere.
Look at the MLB, NHL, MLS, NBA. Nobody says anything about european players winning but when koreans do its a crime against NA players. quit that xenophobic attitude.

So true. If you want the money, you have to be the best. Whose gonna give 100grand to an amateur.
alright...first time I have a complaint about the nasl. There is no way in hell to find the vods of the finals on their page. This is very sad. Does anyone know where I can find them?
There's a million online NA-only tournaments fully populated with the people you want to watch. They don't get many viewers...
Exactly!! Whenever I check out the IPL stream, it has less than 500 viewers, and I for one can't watch it any longer than 5 minutes. The games aren't exciting.
For all the complaints about how everything sucked, the NASL stream consistently had 40K+ viewers all day yesterday, because people want to see the good players, they want to see July and Puma and MC and Boxer.

If we do that than it will hurt NA more than help them. NA has to compete with the best to be the best, and if they are really competitors they will make every effort to improve after they lose. If they never have to face the best, whether that be Koreans, Huk, or whoever puts in the effort, they will never get to there level because they are never forced to.
If EG's new gaming house starts producing talent comparable to Korea are we going to say ok EG, you are to good for NA, your not allowed to come to NASL anymore because our players just get stomped? That is pretty much what your asking for at the moment. If you want a NA only league our NA players need to step up and eliminate all EU's and Koreans, not tell them they aren't allowed in.
I think that the fact that these gaming houses are starting to pop up outside of Korea show that the players themselves for the most part don't want a crutch like that as well, they want to be able to compete, and are starting to realize the only way to do that is to emulate the Korean training. Hopefully they take those houses seriously, and soon start showing that you don't have to go to Korea to improve, you just have to put in as much effort as you would if you were there.
without koreans, foreigners still practicing 20 hours at week, and going to invitationals to easy money.
all those invitational events make players lazy, and don't help to the foreigner's skill
if Nasl want to be more NA, then they can do qualify rounds in LAN events, 1 at NY or east cost, another in california or west coast, and maybe 1 in ontario or canada.

Yeah, I definitely agree, the competition has got to be there. Being the best NA player doesn't mean anything if you haven't proved yourself on the global stage as well. That said, I just hope to start seeing some better results from people who speak a language I can understand. There is something to that underdog win, standing up against someone who is supposed to be better than you, and coming down with a victory (DreamHuk!!)
My problem isn't that the Koreans are winning, it's that the games weren't even close (at least the games I saw were easy 2-0s). I want close, heart pounding action; and the matches I saw were certainly not that. I felt let down by the easy wins more than production values. Oh well, I guess since this is basically the GSL now anyways, the games will hopefully get closer.

Yeah this topic has come up many times. If NA/Euro palyers want to win any money in tournaments w/ koreans, they have to prove they can beat the best (koreans). I don't understand CatZ's line of thinking here or anyone who thinks segregating competition is a good thing. If you wanna be the best you have to beat the best and you will be rewarded for your efforts. It's as simple as that, make the sacrifice, go to korea or train in a pro-gamer house or something.

The time between matches wasn't for hype videos. The time between matches was to give the players time to set up their keyboard, mouse, chair, etc...and get situated in the booth. I was at the convention center yesterday and the reason why there was so much time inbetween each match was because it took forever for the players to get set up.
In almost every situation, there was a problem with the keyboard or mouse drivers, and oftentimes the computer crashed or had some some other issue. We didn't even get to see the hype videos while we were there live. We just sat there watching the players and tech people try to figure out the problem, while the casters made small talk to fill the dead time. I WISH we had hype videos to watch while we waited (although some of the caster commentary was pretty entertaining).
