Early bird entry is $20. Referal u get $5 off every referal. Were not looking to take a profit. We are trying to grow the e-sports and make a name for ourselves.

We have pro caster coming in. With pros soon to be announced participating. Also live streaming the finals. So there's a lot to do especially without sponsers.

not every one in Toronto play starcraft. SC players around Ontario who can afford the entry fee are mostly university students and have to pay travel fees themselves to go to big LAN events and such.
30 bucks means that we have to double all of our expense in the past O_O...

Great prize pool but i dont think most people play for money....

It's a thousand dollars in prize money...

30 isn't a lot of ask for a shot at it, couple of beers and burger? or sc2 turny. But I can understand the hesitation

but I will say the sweet spot is prob 10-15$ imho

How do you think you'll get to that level? By staying at home until "you're ready"? Honestly if you care about being good you should take your beatings, thats how competitive gaming goes, you don't just enter a tourney and "get it" even the first place guy got his rapings at one point.

Will be there with bells on gotta love having a tournament run 5 minutes walking distance from my house.

I assume spectators (with no intention of playing) are welcome? My bronze league friends I'm sure would love to come but will never pay 30 dollars to get rolled xP

30$ is a big fee.

If it's only a tournament where the top 3 people win money, there should be compensation for all the participants. (Prizes and raffles were mentioned?) Compensation as in...t-shirt or something you know...just so people would WANT to pay even though they know they would not win.

Also your flyer on your facebook page says 30$ early bird and 40$ fee.

I suggest you lowering your prize pool if you do not have sponsors, because if you expect to make it up by ticket sales I think you will be sadly mistaken

Haha I know, I played a toronto-area BW tournament back in the day, and beat people up until I got to lose to JF, despite only being D+. It's an unwise investment because I don't really play SC2 competitively .

starcraft 2 north appreciates the constructive criticism we have been getting. We are new to the scene and we're learning from our mistakes. We find it pointless to bash or project , it would be better if u pointed out where we could improve and hopefully attract you to our next event. We're not just here for one tournament our main goal is to push e-sports in toronto first then canada we have a lot of talent here going to waste.

Thank you

Toronto has so much talent that is unseen and unknown. We're here to make you'll shine. Let's all work together to promote and grow e-sports in Canada. The negative feedback in regards to the buy-in is understandable, but you must understand ScN is not profiting. We are trying to make a good event for now and forever. Practice makes perfect, think of this as the practice, before making GM.

Thanks,

Having never been to the place before, I'm just wondering if competitors will be in another room while the casting is going on or what the layout of the place is that will facilitate having a caster.

It sounds like fun. But I can't help being a little pessimistic if the people running it can't even spell tournament properly.

The large entry fee deters me (it's $40 on facebook), and I don't know how professional you guys are to pay-in-advance (it could flop). You're announcing this tournament, but haven't even gone into specifics yet about the events or raffles. Tournament rules aren't established yet either (double or single-elimination, bo3?). How many players are you accepting? Is it at night or in the day? (time on the 20th and 21st?) Where can we see the registered list of players? Also your Facebook page actually has less information on the tournament than your TL post. (Also conflicting dates? Here it says 20th and 21st, whereas on your Facebook page/poster it says 20th exclusively). Shouldn't you post on TL when you have all these details setup?

I'm not a high level player so why waste $40, only to have it paid out to the top 3 players. Right now your post only appeals to players at the high levels, rather than the whole SC2 community in the Greater Toronto Area (which is large). It seems like you guys are more focused on making an event that seems professional based on prize money alone. Alsol the Top 8 spots qualify for your Starcraft 2 Amateur League, but we get no info on this at all.

Personally I think some of the better/professional players would like more players to show up and have fun, than get a little more prize money. Why compete against the same 20 players, when you can get a big field of players to show up which could only help support more tournaments for the future. Having a large player pool is also beneficial for future sponsors, as well as the netcafe sponsoring this event.

i apologies for confusing information i was stated before we have made mistake we are new at this and we're trying to rectify all problems. We do have rules and regulations for the tournament we just have been e-mail them to people who are interested in joining the tournament until our website is up and running. we apologies for the price discrepancy as we said before we didn't know that it was a lot when we first put it up and we have now reduced it to 20 . We are happy to answer any questions u may have that the e-mail doesn't answer. We also apologies if they're any typo's in anything we post , we are only human after all.

Thank you for your criticism hopefully we can attract to our next tournament when we have a little more experience.

DAT LINEUP...no point for me to throw away $30

exactly.

The idea of a local tournament is awesome, spending 30$ when people like ddoro/dde/lefnaij/antimage are in it is really just throwing the money to the wind. I love the idea of playing locally in a competitive/semi-competitive setting, but I can't afford 30$ to do it.

Small? a 1000 dollar prize pool is small? o.o
Plus, this is an in person event. Since when have there have been free in person tournaments with a huge prize pool?

Starcraft 2 North is proud to announce a new sponsor: PGT MAKE MONEY GAMING. Check out his website (www.progamingtours.net) for all e-sport tournament information and more. Also check out the article (www.progamingtours.net/PGT/index.php?/StarCraft2North) .

We are very excited about the sponsorship that we have added raffles for just the players and a separate raffle for the spectators, since we have been getting a high demand of people who will be showing up to cheer the players on. Raffle prizes will include products from razer computer accessories

any questions about the tournament pm us or check out our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Starcraft-2-North/209959859046703

Awesome idea, glad it's happening, but being a plat and paying 30 dollars just to play just doesn't do it for me because I know I have no chance, if it was less I would actually go to just play a couple of games and simply have fun.

While no doubt difficult, I believe that's the point - you need to find some sort of sponsorship.

I'd love to attend this, but if the names you've mentioned show up, I'd literally be throwing money away, as someone else mentioned earlier in this thread.

If you have grandmaster quality players in a tournament, expecting a decent showing of master/below to come, play and pay is a bit much, IMHO.

see that's the difference right there between canada and the u.s. tournaments operate the same way with even more pro gamers and still diamond and lower participate in the tournaments for even more money. But it all good if u don't have money to waste come out to the tournament and meet the pro's and enjoy some good games

Well, if we can work something out with this much advance notice.. I can probably show us there as GosuGamers and cast it via the official account ('tis featured! ) to help bring in some more views.

I hope you resolved the issue with Y2K's gaming systems. APM hosted the first SC2 tourney (known to me) at Y2K last summer and half of the crowd had to go play from a venue next door. Not trying to flame just a heads up, I'm sure they've upgraded their systems now or what not :/

I'll call this one already!

Group 1 = col.antimage
Group 2 = sixjaxdde
Group 3 = soloturtule
Group 4 = slayersbaekho or hannamkung
Group 5= combatex
Group 6 = rootddoro
Group 7 = bigbirdy , willy, innate , cobra,
Group 8 = fnacticmsijf
Group 9 = sieg
Group 10 = tony , coachsauce , spasticated , tqsky

Group 7 & 8 stand no chance (its not like any of them will get past the second stage) I'm guessing Antimage will get walked through to the finals & face either DDE or JF.

Yeah! Real legit. It would be nice if you posted the full brackets so the tourney can't be rigged... Please post the full brackets to be fair to the other players who paid a lot to play. Shadyprobe is not impressed.

Group stages: Each player plays each other once best out of 3 games. Top two go into winners bracket bottom two go into losers bracket .
There will be 2 days of playing for the event if I'm not mistaken whether you win the group or lose the group

I have a couple questions that many people share:

Will there be seating to watch the live commentary?

What is the layout, (loser/winner bracket, BO1 BO1 BO1 BO3 BO5 BO7)

How many people are expected to show up?

Is there any minimal level of play required to enter into the tourny?

How many pros are expected, but most importantly, the seating for observers.

Is there a different price for observers and a different price for players?

PLEASE ANSWER THESE BECAUSE ME AND FRIENDS REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF WE SHOULD COME.

He said in a post that the top 2 of the pool play goes to winners bracket and bottom 2 to loser's bracket. The pool play is BO3. There are 40 players and i have no idea about observers, but i've been to YK, and i don't see how they will have much room for observers. And no minimal to play, but i'm pretty sure its already full :D.

Since the new patch, there have been a few new maps added by blizzard. Will these new maps be in the tournament pool, or will the tournament stick only to the maps they listed previously?

As a corollary of this question, will there be any commentary at all? Who's casting? How friendly is this tournament going to people who just want to watch (ie me)?

BEST SC2 EVENT I'VE EVER BEEN TO. SRSLY.

was really fun and awesome meeting everyone and ppl ive played online before. honestly when i first saw this thread and they were charging 40$ entrance i was like LOL GL RUNNING THAT. Then it cut down to $20 and was like eh may as well try it out. Now after goign to that event, i could say i would easily pay $40 if that's what the next event costed. Not only was the event sick, the organizers are the most chill ppl ever, so fucking awesome. cant wait for the next event.

GJ and GG's to ostojiy(1st),combatex(2nd), and ryze(3rd) !

ROFLLL HAHAHHAA.

Anyway, AMAZING event! Props to all the organizers; the first day was a bit hectic with all the no-shows and all, but everything worked out, and it was a hell of an experience (: Everyone was SUPER chills, and like Zoohair said, definitely worth the entrance fee (over $1k in prize pool + raffles!). I'm looking forward to more events like this in the future.

Yea if you have time kimchi you should create the bracket you had on paper and post it (should take like 20 mins). Reps and vods will be released afaik but I have game 2 of the finals (47 minute fustercluck) and will upload it later. Def worth watching.
