yeah, like when sky won WCG wc3 out of no where back in 2005ish (year might be off).

would be cool to see.

Not sure about that - WC 3 eSports became popular because of Sky, perhaps, but IIRC WC 3 was mainly pirated in China and that's how it reached a large audience there.

SC 2... Uh, probably won't see that happen.

Also, to be fair, Sky is ... pretty charismatic and uber-charming. He has so many fans it is scary. (He has over a million followers on a Chinese version of Twitter, and that's just on their Twitter copy.) XiGua ... not so much.

Sky is a superstar,, IC. Plus he's marketable with an attractive face. I still wish he goes into SC2 next year, that is if WC3 is going the way of the dinosaur. Some people disagree with that feeling

Sky has a story nerds can relate to, kind of like Boxer if I'm not wrong - a humble background, hiding from his parents to play games, believing in eSports when no one else did, coming out of nowhere - literally nowhere - to win two WCGs in a row and changing the way Human is played in WC 3. It's the classic rags to riches story.

XiGua doesn't have anything like that. But, at least he's shown, this WCG, that Chinese SC 2 players aren't bad.

If Sc2 explodes in China, that will be the end of Korean domination... I really hope the Chinese get serious about Sc2 instead of LoL or Dota.. Honestly i just don't get those games... I like games with humans vs Insectoid race vs Advanced technological race.

What makes you think China would end Korea's dominance in SC2 when the rest of the world combined can't?

He definitely was thinking Sky & Co. heisting Korean domination in WC3 days. Though Grubby was bonjwa in that game, Koreans, by and large, were the dominant force prior to Sky's surprise WCG win.

Korea still never took WC3 seriously, at least not like BW. The situation was made even worse with the map incident. I really don't see how China will "suddenly" overtake Korea in dominance when all the potential talent isn't even playing SC2 and Korea has hundreds of professionals in both BW/SC2.

If China ever dominates it would not just be because the game blew up there but because the game died in Korea.

i don't know a billion and 400 million chinese people would be pretty formidable competition for 50 million Koreans.

As well you know that SC is a national sport in Korea, where it is one of the sports that almost everybody wants to be good at in Korea.
I don't think Westerners view StarCraft or Esports the Same way the Koreans or even the Chinese do.. Slowly, the powers that be are making Esports bigger and bigger for the Western Audience. The agenda to push digital entertainment is a must be.. It's cheap to market compared to outdoor sports, and the future business model looks great if young people play SC2 Instead of baseball.

That is why there are no Western Lee Young Ho's as of this moment. All the real talent goes to other occupations and entertainment industries. Where Sports, Hollywood, and BUsiness arena are bigger prizes and more ambititious to achieve than A computer game.

sc2 might not get big in china in a broad sense, but the competitive scene might get larger there

the only people that can become sc2 pros in china are people who probably have a well-off family (not "rich" i guess but "rich" compared to the average chinese family) and he can practice at home all day without needing to work because his family takes care of him

in that scenario, many pros could arise who wanted to take it seriously and they wouldnt care about the monetary price of sc2 if they were competitive spirited enough

Don't apply the word bonjwa to War3, please, it hurts my soul.

EDIT: It hurts my soul as a War3 fan.

Sorry I was just trying to find a word to describe his accomplishments.

That's untrue. I worked in Fudan University as research assistant and I could not describe the shock to see how many competitive DotA players were there in my lab

Well he did beat DRG, but DRG isn't too good on ZvP. Or did he? I might be confusing hero with JYP or sth.

So no, hero really hasn't beat any powerhouse ZvP player
