I'm disappointed there's only 1 representative of the whole benelux
Would've loved to see Grubby/Ret participate in this event

What do people mean by Huk and Idra haven't to pay 1.5k is that hotel and flight, or something else.
Also why is there only 1 player from america and 2 from canada

I believe USA WCG cancelled and decided not to fund the players who won, so Idra is funding his own trip.
And the community raised money for the Canada WCG tourney to send two players, Kiwikaki and Huk.
Thats my understanding of the situation, I could be wrong.

I think the reason people are a little upset is that KiWiKaKi won the WCG Canada online tournament and although HuK did sign up for it, he did not compete, TD.Attero came second and is not competing in the finals.

I suspect the following happened: as Canada has no organizer this year, a previous organizer was able to secure us with a special status at WCG meaning that we could send up to 3 SC2 players and their tournament entries would be waved, we would only have to pay for their flight. USA has no such status and thus the players must pay an entry fee, because HuK has dual citizenship, EG may have worked out a deal for him to represent Canada instead so they wouldn't have to pay the tournament entry fee (which is very expensive). That's my speculation.

For me, I'm just happy to see HuK competing, it doesn't matter to me which flag he has beside his name.

Since I have worked with WCG before, the reason why HuK can go is because he's funding his own trip. You're able to compete if you fund your own trip and never qualified. A lot of countries did this back in the day. They would pay for their best player to attend with out having to qualify.

Usually, WCG sets these tournaments up in order to see who will get a free trip to the finals. But seeing as we have people that don't know what they're doing in WCG USA, clearly they never got the sponsors to pay up.

This tournament seems to be very poorly organized and funded. Furthermore Korea seems to the be sending some of its finest players, while the other nations are sending a lot of people I've never heard of.

Yea this is slightly ridiculous. Some of my favorite games and the best plays I've seen have come out of WCG. It's one of the best international tournaments in the world, I don't understand why there seems to be some sort of controversy every year with how players are determined and whether they get funding. Do they just need competent help?

WCG Nations have to pay to send players. It costs them ~$2.5k (travel, accomodations, food and a $1.5k registration fee) to send a player. They raise the money through fundraisers, sponsorship, entry fees and what not.

WCG USA had sponsor issues and couldn't raise any money. WCG Can could only raise enough money to send 1 player (kiwikaki as he won the WCG Canada qualifier).

However, each nation is allowed to send 3 players. IdrA will represent WCG USA with EG footing the bill (including the $1.5k registration fee). Huk will go as Canada's second player. Attero is not being screwed here. EG is paying for Huk. If anyone else from Canada wants to go they have to be willing to pay the bill (or the US for that matter). If Huk doesn't go for Canada, kiwi is going to be the only representative.

Also, I'm not 100% sure EG is paying the registration fee. But I know for sure WCG Canada and WCG USA aren't (they have no money). So the only option is EG paying or WCG waiving the fee (very unlikely as every other nation would get pissed).

Yep, best foreigner country sending only 1
Maybe Nani, Sase could get it financed by their teams like Huk/Idra since they are in Korea anyways.

Wasn't this the exact issue that caused a bunch of teams to boycott ESWC a while back?
Thank God and gunrun.
