The brackets for code A, starting April 18th, have been revealed:
Day 1:
MMA vs TopClass Hyperdub vs Line GanZi vs PeanutCracker JJUN vs Bomber
Day 2:
Leenock vs CreatorPrime Revival vs Ryung SlayerS_BoxeR vs explosionNL ALive vs Finale
Day 3:
Ace vs Violet August vs YuGiOh TheBest vs Min MVP vs Lure
Day 4:
BansBans vs Brown choya vs Keen CoCa vs Squirtle Noblesse vs Tassadar
Source: http://www.gomtv.net/2011championship/forum/64293
Interesting brackets. My opinion:
- Bomber on first day? ^_^ - I feel bad for Prime. Their only code A player is going to be eliminated first round. - TheBest is pretty unlucky. - Lure is the unfortunate soul who has to face MVP. - I wish I could say Squirtle will dominate the last quarter of the bracket, but he's against ZeNEXCoCa, who displayed some pretty damn good ZvP against Ace.

its sad to say i have no idea who half the qualifiers are =[
|
I can recognize quite a few of these players, the sad part is, no foreigners.
|
Will check out the players that I know, but since there are no foreigners this time around I feel no will to watch it closely at all.
|
I wonder whether some sort of seeding is done for Code A (which is logical). For instance, the 8 players in the up/down matches should certainly be seeded. The other 8 of the ro16 players should then be the next few seeds.
|
JJUN vs Bomber?
Wow, i can't believe one of them will get knocked out of Code A. TheBest vs Min will be interesting, it'll be cool to see if Min can live up to the hype. Looking to see MMA and Ryung play as well.
|
as a fan it's a little sad to see that there are no foreigners in this season of code a, but then again the level of play should be much higher. it's exciting to see how players like MMA, ryung, bomber, min and squirtle do, having seen such great games from them in the gstl.
|
Well it looks like GOM did their best not to have some random no-name take out a potential S class player. MMA, boxer, MVP leenock and a few others are playing people I don't recognize.

8 players from GSL Mar. Up & Down matches + 8 players from GSL Mar. Code A Ro16 (players who did not make it to Ro8) + 16 players who qualified through preliminaries
=fun times

Its very disappointing that there are no foreigners in Code A this month even when there are foreigners staying in the Gomtv house - makes me wonder what the point of Gomtv even having it is.
|
I beg to differ on the Prime part.....I don't really think Leenock is that solid. Will not surprise me if Creator makes it through.
JJUN vs. Bomber.....now THATS a match I can't decide on.

The first round match that really stands out to me is Ace vs Violet. They both seem to be very promising players, and this should be a cracker.

The foreigners in the GOM house are probably only staying for the duration of the World Championship, which is scheduled to end before the start of Code A. From interviews, quite a few of them have said that they have no intention of staying in Korea for the long-term.
I think GOM would probably really like to have foreign seeds again, but the problem is that the foreign house is currently quite occupied and the current foreigners in Korea have either turned down possible seed positions or had failed the qualifiers.
|
How good is Lure ? He should have "fun" against MVP...
|
Assuming people playing on the same day are in the same side of the bracket, this means only 1 each of Ganzi/Bomber, Leenock/Ryung, Ace/Yugioh, MVP/Min will make it to the Ro8, assuming they all win their 1st round matches. Code A is brutal man.

Yeah its a shame but I don't think the Korean and Foreign scenes are going to have much crossover in the future especially when North American events are all in a LAN setting like the GSL, there isn't enough money involved to fly back and forth and it may not even be possible from a scheduling point of view.

Has the map pool for this season been announced yet?
|
Hard to call. I see many disappointments in these, but time will tell. I hope for Boxer, Min, Ryung, MMA, Bomber and Squirtle to make it thru to Code S. Don't care much about MVP tbh.

sucks for MVP/Min when Choya looks to be able to get to up/down match easily

Sick lineup, very happy to see that most of the heavyweights (Min, MMA, Ganzi, MVP, Boxer) are facing opponents that are lesser known. Will let these masters all advance or introduce us to some insane new talent.
|
don't understand all the hype for players who have won like 1 game on live television, usually only to be knocked out in the next game ; ex: min
not saying they aren't good, but not THAT impressed by them, certainly not in the same way as bomber's consistent top level results
|
hopefully the casting duo of doa/moletrap will be good. i'm excited.
|
Hmmmmm, just wondering, is that viOlet the same as the Orc player viOlet?
So many P ;(
|
I'm so happy to see all those I want to live on not facing each others. We have no Boxer vs MMA or MVP vs Min, how nice

So many P ;( Yes. He's the same WC3 player.
Looking at the map pool, I'm a bit disappointed that Scrap is still in there and Typhon Peaks got removed. It seems like a step backward to me. Seems strange that they would remove it for GSTL and then bring it back.
Is Taldarim's the ladder edition one or the normal one? Don't really like the LE version.

Lure iirc is from MvP team, so he can learn from Genius. Actually unlike Lure, viewers may not have "fun" if he wins against IMMvp, which is not something impossible.
On April 08 2011 16:51 Mephiztopheles1 wrote: Hmmmmm, just wondering, is that viOlet the same as the Orc player viOlet?
So many P ;( Yes, he's from MvP team as well, just like Lure. Ace may have some tough times against viOlet as MvP protoss line is superspecialawesome and thus viOlet has a LOT of good practice partners.
Other than that, all quarters of brackets have 2 MvP guys except the first one that has MMA and GanZi. Looks like someone doesn't want MvP to have 11.2 points before the next GSTL.
Fanboy predictions: SlayerS_MMA > TopClassfOu ZeNEXLine > oGsHyperdub SlayerS_GanZi > PeanutCracker Jjun or Bomber, whoever wins I couldn't care less. But it wouldn't be bad if bomber got eliminated. I hate him for some reason.
Leenock > Creator RevivaL > Ryung explosionNL > boxer Finale > aLive
viOlet > Ace YuGiOh > August Min > thebest Lure > mvp
Brown or vanvanth I couldn't care less Keen > choya (I hate choya and love keen) CoCa > squirtle Noblesse > Tassadar

shame theres no foreigners but hopefully squritle and MVP get through!!!

TheBest vs Min MVP vs Lure
Does this mean that the winners will play against each other? I am almost afraid for Mvp.
|
Code A is stacked as hell, and MVP is against a protoss, FU

Oh man I feel sorry for Lure.

are people forgetting that MVP won GSL while Min has beaten 1 player known as Inca (whose worst matchup in tournaments so far is against zerg) and lost to TOP?
|
And most of the new faces are very powerful (MMA, Min, Ryung, JJUN, Bomber + those who are strong but I don't know about). Those names are code S worthy, the code A tourney is more and more difficult.
|
MMA, Ryung, and Bomber I agree with, JJUN and Min not so much
seriously, they haven't accomplished much and although JJUN did make a decent run in code A, he lost to rain, one of the weaker players in Code S right now
|
Wow these should really be double elimination at least. I feel sorry for the players who get MVP, MMA or Bomber in the early rounds.
|
Just to reiterate what someone else has mentioned: Gom has said that the timing of matches does not necessary indicate their position in the bracket. So winner of MMA/TopClass might not have to play winner of Line/Hyperdub
|
It seems that the 8 players from Up&Down and 8 players from Code A are seeded in the sense that they won't face off against each other in the Ro32. So the pairings are basically just randomly selecting a player from the 16 Code A+Up&Down and a player from the 16 qualifiers.
Wow. Luckily there were no Bomber vs Mvp, Bomber vs MMA, Squirtle vs Leenock etc games.
|
who is JJUN? I never heard of this player and everyone is hyping him like crazy... what did he do, that you think he might take out bomber...?

But he played in GSTL 1 and beat Boxer, Ryung and Alicia from SlayerS.
Other than that I don't know what's so notable about him. Haven't really seen him play, so I can't judge if he really is as good as Ryung/Alicia. Results from 1 game don't tell much.

3 killed slayers in the first GSTL (boxer, ryung, alicia) and beat moonglade in the previous code A then lost to Rain. I'm sure he's pretty good but he's certainly the underdog against bomber.
|
ah okay thanks, now I remember... Well I don't think he will beat Bomber in TvT. SlayerS wasn't that good back then. SlayerS players got much better since then, while I think Zenex is somehow not the best place to get better.
|
Glad to see there are only 2 mirror match ups for RO32. Will be some entertaining first rounds.

Jaysis, if the schedule is by bracket section again (I see no real reason it wouldn't be), then the first section is pretty damn stacked.
MMA is obviously a monster, and I still maintain that Hyperdub is a fairly solid player. Don't know anything about Topclass or Line, but anyone who came through that hellish offline qualifier is going to be worth a watch lol.
Then we get Ganzi who's evidently good, vs PeanutCookie, and he's on IM so we can pretty much expect he's going to be awesome. Finally a very solid Code A player in JJun, vs the one and only Bomber.
I'd expect MMA & Bomber to be the two in the final 8 from that section but yeah, that's super hard.
Section 2 I'll take Boxer and Leenock, I'll maintain that Leenock is good enough to make it back into Code S until he quits playing, and I think Boxer will have been practicing enough that, coupled with his experience, he'll be able to pull through (he certainly looked pretty sharp 2-1'ing July even if it was a showmatch)
Section 3 I think is finally Ace's time to earn his way through, though who knows, maybe Violet will play some awesome Z and he'll exit early in disappointing fashion again. Happy to see Yugioh make his way back in again, and I think he can take August.
On the other side of that part Min should take down The Best based on what we've seen from each, though who knows, maybe the best kills him with a one base all in...either way, MVP should take out anyone in this section.
Section 4 is interesting, imo Choya is probably still good enough to still come out of there on top, he might be cheesy, but he's not so woeful that he doesn't belong in Code A either. Banbans really didn't impress in the up & down matches, but I guess we'll find out whether that was a result of him being ill (which he visibly looked), or whether he's just not cut out for the higher end of sc2.
I was very happy to see Squirtle fight his way back through the Code A qualifiers because a) it's a damn hard thing to do, b) it shows that despite the incredible depth of players in Korea there is some consistency possible, and c) that he's not just 1 good week in the GSTL. That said I really like Coca since reading an interview of him with the whole thing about him not even having his own computer at home to practice on. Dunno who I want to win there, but I think I'd back Squirtle to take at least one match.
Noblesse will forever have my heart after using that ghost opening to such brilliant effect vs Maka on scrap station, and I'd definitely like to see more of him playing. That said I'm still amused by the fact that a protoss named Tassadar knocked GuineaPig out in the last round of the qualifers after he'd switched to Terran xD
Ultimately I think my final 8 will be:
MMA Bomber Leenock Boxer Ace MVP Choya Noblesse.
That said, the amount of unknown quantities from the qualifiers is hard to gauge, I mean, I hear MVP have some pretty amazing players lurking in their ranks right now, and it's pretty likely that at least one player from the qualifers will show us some incredible play, but having never seen any play it's a little hard to pick one to advance =p
|
it's even more interesting once you start thinking about the top 4, top 2, and then the winner
|
Come on leenock! he needs to Win Code A and eventually Code S!!!
|
Too bad none of the foreigners managed to qualify. It's going to be a tough season, so many good players.

Lol wut? Supernova took down 3 code S players plus Squirtle and nearly beat Losira. I forgot who but either Nada or MC said he was the second best player on oGs. The guy is absolutely worthy of code S.

wow the first bracket looks the deadliest
|
So many good players in Code A. And stop begging for foreign invites! Foreigners tried to qualify in the open tournament and failed, so why should they get in over the deserving Koreans who beat them? Just root for the best players to play! I'm looking forward to seeing Ganzi and Bomber the most. Ganzi's TvZ vs Haypro last season was so good. He managed to constantly drop him effectively on Scrap Station despite Haypro's good muta control. I've never seen any Terran look so scary against him.

min getting mvp in ro16 :/ not cool
|
Lot of people saying that JJUN is good, but I'm pretty sure he is mostly a below average player. The games he won in GSTL were I believe BO wins or terrible play from his opponents (Alicia was horrible for that game). His game versus Moonglade were fairly inventive, but Moonglade has basically never won a streamed or televised Korean match (by that I mean in Korea, not IEM). Losing to Rain 0-2 is not something anyone should do in a TvT. The only way I see Bomber losing is if his nerves get to him, otherwise JJUN is mediocre at best.
|
Really glad to see that the "heavy hitters" dodged each other in round 1 would hate to see them drop out of Code A so fast when they have shown skills to beat the very best of Code S. RO16 is going to be insane tho.

It was only a base trade cause Min made it a base trade. It wasn't some coin flip MKP base trade.
Min pushed Inca so far behind, that Inca was forced to allin. Min also knew that he had so many bases and a mobile army that didn't even have to fight Inca directly. It was calculated.
Then after a bane bust on Xelnaga, vs OgsTop, Min was able to salvage the game and make it competitive. Id say he would have won, had he not got himself so far behind in the early stages.
Now Min Qualified for Code A while other pretty big names were left out. It counts for something.
I agree that we shouldn't over hype Min. Though i think all Zerg players are quite intrigued by his play.

MMA/Bomber Leenock/Boxer Ace/MVP Cocoa or Squirtle/Choya
Those are my picks who will be in the top 8
|
Thanks for posting been wanting to see who MVP, Boxer, and Leenock drew in the groups! I feel good that MVP and Leenock play against people that at least we really haven't heard to much about. But boxer plays against explosionNL the terran who I heard looked pretty damn strong from the preliminaries, best of luck to these guys!
|
I feel sorry for all the newcomers in Code A, but hopefully there will be some upsets. :D
|
I'm hoping for some big upsets (I usually do though haha) Other then that I hope Boxer gets back to Code S this time. He's such an awesome guy I just want to see him do good.
|
Squirtle, noooooooooooo! Why do you have to play CoCa round 1?! Why must you play such an amazing player!? Hopefully you can evolve into the Blastoise and take him out!
Man there are some BIG players getting pared up in round 1 here. Revival vs Ryung should be amazing, as should August vs YuGiOh. I will also root for anyone named Tassadar, so that should be fun too.
|
Although upsets are entertaining and all, I do NOT want to see one involving Mvp. That guy really should not be in Coda A. I'm glad he drew a random, and not a known good player like MMA.
I've never really watched many code A games, but I definitely will this season. Too many good players to pass up.

It's silly that Leenock is still in Code-A

It'll be MMA vs Bomber finals and the games will be epic as hell and Bomber will probably slightly edge it out in the end.

Also I have a bad feeling that one of the 4 big terrans will get upset I guess making it to Code A ain't good enough anymore. I hear Hapro and glade crying because of you now. uhm, considering they were SEEDED in i dont see your point
Emm,maybe because they both failed at making it back in the tournament?

Can Lure Lure MVP to death?

No foreigners? Because they are seeded for next round or? And which foreigners are in code A? Haypro? Moonglade? Torch? others?

None, they didn't give out foreigners seeds this time for whatever reason (maybe because they already invested into bringing so many over for the WC's, or maybe they just scrapped it).
Haypro and cArn both lost in round 3 of the qualies, Torch lost in round 2 to Yoda and Moonglade lost in round 1 to Violet

Ok, thanks for the fast answers
Too bad with foreigners, it adds a bit extra when we have some foreigners in the code (a or s).
But with all the competitions in EU and US I guess less progamers will opt to go to Korea.

With MMA, Ryung and MVP around, do you still stand by that statement?

Players I'm personally rooting for to advance: MVP, Ryung, MMA, Bomber, Ace, and Squirtle. Luckily, none of them are playing one another in the first round and I'm hoping they dodge each other until ro8

I'm really looking forward to the MMA and MVP games. Such awesome players!! Code A is going to be a treat

There's a distinct lack of foreigners.

Yeah, but MVP will be the biggest challange for him

How unfortunate. A lot of deserving players won't make it to the Ro8 (and thus will not be eligible for Up/Down) like this.
-MMA will most likely make it to Ro8 -Either Bomber or Ganzi won't make it -Either Leenock or Ryung won't make it -Either Min or MVP won't make it
Edit: And that's assuming there aren't any upsets in the Ro32.

I think there are many more deserving players than those - they are just the ones who have caught our eye in the GSTL. I think the talent pool in Korea is extremely deep, especially since SC2 is barely starting to catch on I think.

I really hope that MMA join code S... it's really a great player. MVP back to Cose S too of course... it's so LOL that's in code A.
I'm curious also to see if there's some young zerg that will emerge... actually all the good zerg are old aged players. (July, Nestea, Fruit (also if he's not good anymore apparently))

It would be a amazing storyline if MMA and MVP meet again in the finals of this season.

I know, I'm just saying that those are the most known up-and-comers/strong players who might not even make it to up and down matches.

It can't be, if the bracket is set up like that. They will face in the Ro8.
I do think MMA-MVP finals is likely, but I think at the very least MMA, Bomber, Ryung and MVP will all be in Up & Down.

RO8 is going to be intense...might have to watch Code A for once

I wish Tastosis were doing Code A and the other two were doing Code S; A is more exciting for me this time round.

Mvp's gonna really have to prepare well. Hope he doesn't take this lightly. I'm pretty sure Lure is going to try to cheese the hell out of Mvp to win.

So many Terrans my head going to explode! Only 3 matchups with no Terrans. SlayerS_Yugioh! Fighting!!!!!

Dual Sight Xel'Naga Fortress Terminus RE Crevasse Scrap Station Metalopolis Shakuras Plateau Crossfire SE Xel'Naga Caverns Tal'Darim Altar
From the Code S group nominations.
Are you sure it's not Terminus SE instead of RE?
Also, they will also use versions of Metalopolis and Xel'Naga Caverns where you can't wall off the bottom of the ramp with 2 3x3 buildings and where you can't spawn close-ground positions right?

I don't know when it was mentioned at group nomination but that's not the right map pool. It's Xe'Naga Fortress instead of Scrap Station and Shakuras is also out of map pool.
