The tournaments are going to be spaced throughout the entire weekend however there will be alot of people attending to just play three days of SC2. The UofC StarCraft II club will also be on site putting together some fun SC2 action. We have a staff meeting in a couple weeks to finalize tournament schedule. Alot of depends on how many people want to enter into each tournament.
There is at least $500 worth of equipment being awarded in the SC2 tournament and our major sponsor Sapphire Tech is going to contribute some additional prizes as well. We are just waiting on prize confirmation from them at the moment.
On the site, if we register and pay, does that mean we're placed in tournament brackets automatically? or is there a different process to sign up to play in the tournament.
We will be registering people for the SC2 tournament day of the event and considering it was the most anticipated game last year we expect a fair amount of people signing up to compete. This event is sponsored by The Peregrine and also our global sponsor "Sapphire Tech" has taken an interest in sponsoring the SC2 tournament as well. Still waiting on prize confirmations from them but it is shaping up that the StarCraft II tournament will be the tournament with the most prizes being awarded.
On April 05 2011 17:29 kOre wrote: Just a heads up that the UofC SC Club will have a huge presence in the tournament and I believe that in the top 8 at least half will be from the club
Hahaha, there's only like 10 people in the SC club. Not much to say about that =P
I'll be sure to check it out unless it interferes with the spring classes =/
On April 06 2011 11:01 dapierow wrote: Taking 3 days off work for the lan would be brutal for me, however is the SC2 tourney was just run on one day I would take the day off for that!
The main thing is that there is 4 tournaments taking place at the event and making sure that an entire day of SC2 wouldn't effect the other tournaments. We'll be sure to talk about this at our next staff gathering and keep the thread updated.

Does this mean that there will be no limitations on the amount of players that are able to participate in the tournament? (which would also mean a bigger prize pool?)

There is a max of 100 participants at the event and alot of those people are competing in other tournaments outside of SC2. We are discussing this weekend about having a participant cap for the SC2 tournament mainly cause we have 3 other tournaments taking place and we don't want to lose track of time. StarCraft II is an awesome game however we have to respect the other tournaments taking place at the event.
The prizes for the SC2 tournament are not effected by the amount of participants competing. Project X has hosted a series of SC2 only events in the past and it is something we will continue doing after this LAN party in May.
Don't worry cause the UofC SC2 club will be on site and while the other official tournaments are taking place there will be plenty of time for some fun tournaments. The vast majority of the people attending have StarCraft II and I am sure at 5:00 am you can easily find someone to 1v1 against.
On April 08 2011 14:03 Illusionnist wrote: is there a forum section i can look about for coutner strike surce teams? who needs a newb or something
Yes, if you create an account on our forums there are people looking to create a CS:S team or you can create a thread talking about how your looking for a team. At the event we will call all the team captains and misc. people to the front and those that dont have a team might be able to create a team at the LAN. It is risky but we have found enough solo people to create a team before.
There are a few "Looking for a team" topics in our forums however that is the most recently updated one of all the misc people looking for teams. Best place to do a shout out for a team is the above link!
On April 02 2011 14:08 HKarmY wrote: Are the SC2 tournaments played on 1 day? Or during the entire weekend?
The tournaments will be taking place over the weekend and a schedule shall be announced on our website here shortly. The main reason for spreading the tournament over the weekend is to avoid people coming down for the one day and then leaving after it is done. These events act as great social gatherings for people with similar interests and are not just about the tournaments.
We will be talking to one of our major sponsors today and we look forward to announcing some additional hardware prizes to the event.
Had an amazing meeting with the people from Sapphire Tech and they'll be supplying some sweet hardware prizes to the StarCraft II tournament @ the LAN! Also, they'll be sponsoring our prepay goal by supplying pizza to everyone at the LAN however we have to hit 90% prepaid before the LAN.
PrePay today for your chance to win a Psyko Audio headset and get the event closer to selling out two years in a row! No other LAN event in Calgary delivers this much prizes to the fans thenProject X!
Hmmm ... if the timing is right, chances are I'll have room for people that need to crash in Calgary and would rather stay at a house instead of a hotel. I'll post closer to the event date and we could probably just chill at my place.

Thanks K0re for offering up your place for the weekend! Now I kinda want to stay there
Also, the rooms @ The Blackfoot inn are rather luxurious and we have secured a special room rate of $99cdn per night compared to the usual $149CDN. If you have a small team coming down it is rather affordable and close to the action.
**SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT** Psyko Audio is now sponsoring the Counter Strike: Source tournament and the first place team will walk away with 5 Krypton headsets! ($1000.00+ value) PrePay today @ www.ProjectxLAN.com
In addition to various other prizes Sapphire Tech is providing 4 FleX family graphics cards to the final tournament winners: HD 6870 Flex, 5770 Flex, 5670 Flex and Standard HD 5770
Also, did we mention that they're sponsoring our PrePay goal of "Free Pizza @ the LAN with 90% or more prepaid"!! That's right, Sapphire Tech is sponsoring the LAN with tons of hardware, swag, giveaways & PIZZA at the event!
If you live in the Calgary area this is the premium LAN event to attend for 2011!
On April 18 2011 07:29 s[O]rry wrote: Gonna throw this thread some love! I am starting to work on my play to put up a good showing!
Thanks, this is a three day gaming event that will feature alot of StarCraft II action! Alot of people are looking forward to non-stop SC2 action! If you haven't already be sure to register & prepay while it is still $30. These events are a great opportunity to connect with fellow gamers in the community and take part of three days of pure gaming!
On April 21 2011 04:06 kOre wrote: Any idea on how the Smash Bros tournament is going to work and what prizes will be available?
That is a great question and "RogueThoughts" on our forum (www.ProjectxLAN.com) will be managing all things to do with the Smash Bros tournament. As far as swag is concerned for that tournament seeing as it isn't an official tournament there won't be any grand prize however pretty much everyone who attends "Project X: Redemption!" will be walking away with something.
The PrePay ticket price is $30 for three days of solid entertainment with tons of fun extras (PC/Console gaming, Live Dj, endurance competitions, just for fun tournaments, "Free pizza*", guest speakers and more). We can guarantee that no other PC/Console LAN event in Western Canada (and most likely most of North America) doesn't offer this amount of action for $30.
If you do intend on coming down be sure too take advantage of the special PrePay rate of $30 as it is $50 at the door. You can also purchase your tickets @ SwitchBox here in Calgary and receive ten free hours of gaming at their center! + Show Spoiler +
Ten hours of time @ SwitchBox is $30 dollars! You would be getting an entire day of gaming there and three days of gaming in May for one cost of $30!!
This event has limited seating and we are only accepting the first 100 paid users at the door! At the moment we have over 135 users registered with 1/2 of the seats sold already. If you are looking at dominating in the StarCraft II tournament now is the best time too purchase a ticket before we are sold out!
The race too prepay is certainly on and we look forward too seeing everyone in May @ Redemption!
On April 22 2011 13:54 kOre wrote: Will urge the University of Calgary club members to buy the ticket ASAP. It'll be fun ^^
That will be awesome!
There is $1000+ worth of hardware being given away in the StarCraft II tournament and we have lots of additional hardware pieces being given in other "just for fun" sc2 competitions @ the LAN.
Be sure to sign up and take advantage of the prepay ticket price of $30!
Remember: PrePay comes to an end on May 7, 2011! After that date, you will not be able to purchase your tickets for the reduced price of $30, and you will have to pay the door price of $50!

The doors open at noon however the tournaments don't start till about 8:00pm. The main thing is that the prepay special of $30 ends on May 7th and it is $50 at the door.
On May 04 2011 01:50 Seven8 wrote: I'm not sure if I can stay overnight, but I'm assuming it is relatively safe to leave my PC there overnight?
We have security measures in place however I'd suggest taking your peripherals ( mouse, keyboard or headset) if you are concerned. If you goto our website the Info section talks about this some more. We have never had any theft problems as the attendees typically respect other peoples property. Read the info section about security and we shall see you there!
So does the "Those that cannot attend Friday for whatever reason are able to make up their missed match, but partABSOLUTELY MUST be ready to play @ 8am Saturday." apply to starcraft 2 as well? cause i don't think i can make it on friday night.
And I also normally play sc2 off of my laptop. Is there a monitor i can plug it in there or should i bring my own?

and we'll ask our staff if they have a spare one.
Hmm I'll try to bring my own, thanks. Do we need extension cords/power bars etc?

The prospect of bringing my own computer, setting it up and leaving it their for 3 days pretty much prevented me from coming. My brother has my laptop capable of SC2, so maybe next year!

We will be running some casual events after "Redemption!" the great thing about these larger events is playing for 3 days. The thrill of walking up to your competitor and shaking his hand after an intense match vs the GG from battle.net.

Oh I know, I was at your Starcraft 2 tournament in february at switchbox, it was a great time and event. I was merely making mention that at least for me, BYOC is more of a hassle than its worth. Either way, I will continue to come to the lan center based events in the future!

There is about $1,200 in hardware & swag for the SC2 tournament however there isn't any cash this time around. This is more of a casual gaming weekend and the tournaments are a fun addition.
For $30 (prepay) you get 3 days of gaming, pizza @ the LAN, tournaments, prizes, LIVE Dj, fun competitions & alot more. If you've never been to a LAN party check out last years video and come see us next weekend!

Yes, a limited amount of spectators are allowed to check out the action! It is $10 for a pass and it gets a spectator badge for the day. If you are going to go that route Saturday might be the best day however all the finals will be held on Sunday of the event.
Also, Memory Express is officially sponsoring us with $1000.00 in Gift certificates & an assortment of other swag! Thanks Memory Express!
Been going to lanageddon for years, wondering if the tournament scheduling will be similar. Wondering If I will be able to participate in all tournaments (css and sc2 mainly though)

No, the tournament schedule will be severely different and it has gotten us alot of praise from veteran event hosts across Canada.
Majority of LAN event groups out there play their tournaments in blocks of 8 hrs till they are finished that one game and move onto the next tournament. Leaving the participants who aren't playing in that tournament rather bored and waiting around. Typically what we have noticed from those tournament is once that tournament is done people just pack up & leave. Rather defeats the purpose of coming to a LAN party.
What we are doing is playing a tournament for a series of rounds or couple hours and then rotating to the next tournament. Unique benefits is people don't have to wait a couple days to play their tournament & keeps people more engaged during the event.
Just letting you know Phayze that we are 100% SOLD OUT & there are no seats available for people that show up at the door. Sign up on our website, facebook or twitter and then you can stay informed on future events.
