If the NASL is a success it will probably mean more sponsors, bigger interest and more dedicated players. If we ever want to have a chance to compete with the Korean scene now is the time to do it but we can't expect it to happen over night. I completely agree. All I'm saying is that you need players that can compete on a truly 'global' level when it comes to making starcraft 2 a succesful e-sport, and that that's partially 'our' (the viewers) fault. The GSL has proven that there is a (small) audience for paid SC2 events, but it's going to be the viewers that make or break the NASL. I was just commenting on trying to set up a new sports division in an age where the audience is wired in and geographical location doesn't play a role anymore.

And I wonder how the qualifiers will be. I hope it's a group stage bo 3 format instead of a mini elimination tourney as that would be the most fair. Though seeing as how there's 7 players from EU and Asia in qualifiers, you can't even do a tourney with an odd number without someone getting a bye, so gives me hope of a group stage format! Huk is going to 3-0 his group!

It's not just the team houses or training facilities or anything else. If anything, I think Sweden, with its deep rooted gamer culture, has the biggest chance of replicating S.K.'s success. I don't have any hopes for NA, even with its huge population and financial resources, given the current state of society here. Not a positive or negative value judgment, just different priorities, cultural values and attitudes of the general public. Same thing with China. Look at its HUGE population, and the overwhelming amount of gamers there. Unfortunately, the culture dictates everything, and "pro-gaming" is frowned upon there, even more so than NA. I don't want to be such a pessimist, but unless some paradigm shift happens in cultural values, shit isn't going to change. Look at WC3. S.K. was still relatively dominant, winning or placing in the top 3 of most championships. Yet, WC3 was held to a distant secondary status to BW in S.K. If the full force of that nation goes behind SC2, I don't even want to think about what would happen...

And while the foreigners are amazingly good and way above what I'll ever be able to comprehend, the chances of any of them taking a single game vs a Korean player are slim at best. Hope this'll be a yearly event. :D Yeah I suppose that's how Jinro got so far in 3 GSL code S... He probably didnt get a single game vs koreans right? I really wish the foreigners win this to hopefully put an end to such comments!

But yeah, even then, SC2 is a volatile enough game that anyone within the same ballpark of skill can take games off of one another. That says more about the state of the game than anything else, but that's a different story.

and when GSL players smash through, people will be shocked.... and realise that in fact, there is no more argument as to whether GSL is the premier competition or not

Maybe cause most NA pros declined invite puting MLG higher? I believe HuK and Jinro could skip one MLG and still get a high ranking in MLG final

I think most NA American pros are going to MLG. I know Painuser has been practicing on the Korean server lately.

If the chinese actually played sc2 instead of wc3/bw they would certainly become the 2nd strongest nation quiet fast. China has a much bigger potential than any european/american country. Why should progaming be frowned upon in china? The govenment is even sponsoring it and warcraft is gonna run on national tv this year. (http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/31415-Chinas_government_sponsors_CEPL) Or look at WCG 2009. They had HUGE crowds in Chengdu. (http://www.youtube.com/user/WorldCyberGames#p/search/22/rrTXLG5XxmQ) As Sc2 will be on Sale in china soon, i imagine more ppl will pick it up and sc2 will grow rapidly over there.
