Clarification on the Prize Pool. If this is the "World Championship" that GSL announced in December/January, then here's the break down in terms of prize distribution.

Total: 202,000,000 Won (181,000 dollars)

World Championship
1st: 30,000,000 Won (~27,000 dollars)
2nd: 15,000,000 Won (~13,500 dollars)
3rd-4th: 10,000,000 Won (~9,000 dollars)
5th-8th: 5,000,000 Won (~4,500 dollars)
8th-16th: 3,000,000 Won (~2,700 dollars)

This means that everyone is guaranteed at least 2,700 dollars because this is a 16 player tournament. Sweet deal for the players. This would make it easier for NA folks to skip MLG Dallas.

If that's the case I don't understand why Idra or Ret would decline. Perhaps they've revised the prize pool since then, because $2,700 + free ticket is a tad generous.

Because you can't expect them to suddenly back out of other tournaments they plan to compete in when plane tickets have already been bought and hotel reservations already made.

If IdrA hadn't passed away, he would have really helped out in the world team league.

Well the world championship was announced in December/January. Ret and Idra had enough advanced warning...

Ugh, I don't understand a thing... can anybody sum up the format for me, please? The "Team League" is pretty much clear, but how are the spots for the "World Championship" be given?

I do hope that it is indeed a "World Championship" and not a "Korea vs Rest" kind of thing, where there are as many Korean representatives as there are for the rest of the world. I mean, I understand that the skill of the average player is higher than that of the rest of the world, but giving 50% of the seats to Koreans might be a little overboard.

Oh does NASL also start within that time frame? I recall it starts during the first week of April.

What I did understand is that this is no "World Championship" but more like "Korea vs Rest of the World", with Korea having as many representatives as the rest of the world in the final stage, right?
Well, I'll still watch it and even pay for it, but that they call this a world championship is quite a bummer.

Why shouldn't they?
IEM world final has 1 asia/taiwan/china player, 3 korean, 3 NA , 5 european players.

NASL is online for the group stages though so it is pretty player friendly in what it conflicts with.

I'd say that until non-koreans (excl. the ones that made the move to korea) start taking games off top korean players, the NASL won't be more then a 2nd tier 'mickey mouse' division. Events like this where top europeans can show what they're made of and can show that they are on par with their korean counterparts will only boost the NASL's image.

Then again, if this ends up like IEM did, it will confirm the korea > world stereotype even more, and that will definately hurt the future of the NASL. Just like in soccer, where worldwide interest is high in the top leagues (spanish, english competition) and interest for national competitions keeps dwindling due to the huge quality gaps.

Games are entertaining on both levels in sc2, but the gap between korea and the 'rest of the world' is getting larger due to practice styles, commitment and attitude.

I hope more players decide to attend korean evens to get a feel for how to improve on their game.

Without the NASL (and such events) the gap would grow even wider. You don't narrow the gap without investing anything. If the NASL is a success it will probably mean more sponsors, bigger interest and more dedicated players. If we ever want to have a chance to compete with the Korean scene now is the time to do it but we can't expect it to happen over night.

NASL should not be affected by this. NASL is primarily online except for the top 16 which should be sometime during the end of May considering their 2 month schedule. This thing ends April 9th so I don't see any conflicts.

Anyways real excited about this. Interested in seeing how more and more people stack up against the Koreans is always interesting to see. Even if they crash and burn they at least played against the best. No shame in that.

And at least $2700 in pocket. Thanks, GomTV.

Im sure both Gom and NASL will work together to find a solution. It's not hard since NASL is an online tournament for the group stage.

Hopefully, he will do better than he did against the Code A koreans in IEM.

Only the qualifiers will be casted from replays. The actual tournament will be live in Korea.

If the real tournament would be casted from replays instead of just qualifiers there would indeed be a huge outcry. Everyone understands that GOM can not cast live a qualification game between 2 players in europe.

How is IdrA not under the North American one? He's by far the most successful/influential north american player, even if he's spent a lot of time recently in Korea.

Edit: Didn't realize he might do something as insane as decline a tourney like this. (ok maybe insane isn't quite the right word, lol)
