Why is 1.6 still played at all these huge tournaments over CS:S?

Because Source had failed. There was a time where it was recieving its influx, had the 1.6 pros playing it and was growing with tons of things, but even then it the community was hugely devived. Then comes tournaments not being able to pay out, cpl going bankrupt, the cgs bankrupt etc. After that a lot of the pro's either quit or went back to 1.6. I think they had always prefered 1.6. The actual gameplay and the way the weapons work had changed too much. Wallbangs, footstep noise idk but those features that made it great weren't that special in Source.

the xmg-series finale is scheduled to happen at 10:30 am on friday and it's:

semi finals:
hasu vs goody

Because CS:S isn't as good as 1.6, and the community didn't accept it as a worthy successor to 1.6. BW to SC2 was a smoother transition was various reasons.
Lee Jae Dong proved that a focus on mechanics and execution could solve problems in the StarCraft game strategy.

kinda strange that you ask that while they play Source oO

Oh. My bad. LOL. I wasn't actually on the stream at the time I posted. I was watching earlier, and I'm pretty sure they were playing 1.6.

It's too bad I missed the source tournament, as I've played a lot more source than 1.6.

I agree with the others, this is FAR from the worst I've seen yet. In fact, I think they're doing great overall.

As soon as a VoD is available it appears in this list: http://tv.esl.eu/de/vod

Sorry, but i don't understand your point. Could you be a little more specific?

I will agree that I find the site navigation to be really confusing. I think it's because they're doing many different things and the only one I'm caring about is sc2. I tried using the sc2 filter, but it didn't seem to be bringing up all the sc2 vods. Which brings me to a question:

Do I have to get an HD pass to see all of the day 1 vods? I'm guessing so, but it wasn't clear to me . I apologize if this has been explained elsewhere...I did look.

Unless they have changed it recently VODs are free at ESL.tv. Low Quality of course.

Any CS player worth his salt will tell you that CS1.6 is the superior game for professional tournaments in every aspect. Just thinking about using CS Source as a competetive game gives me a head ache.

Obviously the sponsors wants new games, so that their products are needed to play them, but CS:S is just to bad to compete in, unfortunately. To compare it with SC, imagine a few years back if they started ditching broodwar to compete in the latest Red Alert game instead.
One more game, bro's!
