On March 1-5 Hanover's CeBIT trade show will stage the event of the year for ESL – the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. The event of the year in all of esports, perhaps.
The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship is the climax of a story that started in July. The season was a long series of events that consisted of international Global Challenge exhibition events (Shanghai and Cologne), national qualification to the Continental Championships, then the Continental Championships themselves.
Intel Extreme Masters structure
And now the World Championship. The very best participants from those events have qualified to fight for a prize purse of $143,500 for StarCraft II ($30,000), QUAKE LIVE ($20,000), Counter-Strike 1.6 ($80,000) and League of Legends ($13,500).

I am the Intel Extreme Masters product manager. For the upcoming seven days, I have hands down the worst job in the world. This week I should be either sitting at my couch and watching all the streams, or trolling around the stage at CeBIT with some pop corn, watching the games there. The world can be so cruel...
We will be streaming this event in English, German, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish and Chinese (and hopefully one more language) on a minimum of 14 channels. 10 of those channels will be available in HD for ESL TV Premium ticket holders. The streaming quality will be very high – check it out here. We've never done anything close to this before.
Arguably, the visitors of CeBIT will have it even better – we have got an entire trade show hall to ourselves. Inside we have built an enormous stage with two major screens showing the matches in Full HD (ESL TV's stream A content will be showing all the stage matches).
Crowd at IEM World Championship 2010
Dennis “TaKe” Gehlen hosting the show and our favourite casting crew will help get you more excited: Kevin “RotterdaM” van der Kooi, Sean “Day[9]” Plott and Dario “TLO” Wuensch.
If you come to CeBIT, make sure to make a sign for your favourite player and bring it with you. You may just win yourself a $1,500 CPU (see TL sponsored threads later today or go here for another one). Hell, bring your signs just to make this event even more awesome with your excitement.
Did shangai happen before sc2 came out?, Also im soooo pumped for this, luckily it coinsided with my reading week in college, so week off + this is gonna be epic:DD

Shanghai took place as SC2 was coming out (it had CS and exhibition events for DotA and WC3), but considering SC2 has only just been approved in China and not released yet, we couldn't have had SC2 this season in China.
i want to know whats the time frames of paying players because i hurd that players still haven't been payed yet for the previous tournaments? and how will this affect there decision to skip or overlook this tournament for other that pay in a more reasonable time frame such as MLG (4 months ) or other such Lans?

The players have been paid out for Cologne and New York City. Kiev will be paid out within weeks (3 months from event is our target time).
StarCraft II ($30,000), QUAKE LIVE ($20,000), Counter-Strike 1.6 ($80,000)
Damn it annoys me to see that the CS price-pool is so much bigger than the SC2 one =/
Will be a fun event to watch anyway!
That's split between the 5 players on the team, so it comes down to 16000 per player, which is less than SC2.
Both the StarCraft tourney and the Quake Live lineups are full of interesting matchups. I can't wait to see how the likes of WhiteRa, Ace, Moon, moonglade, czm, Vo0, and dandaking perform!
If you wanted to contradict him by that, I'm pretty sure not all of the 80k go to the first place finisher in CS, so it is more per player in Starcraft.
will vods be uploaded? if so how fast will they show up? The match times are quite problematic for me and i guess many other europeans with work/school.

no contradiction, just posting the prize pool for people i agree with him

Anyways, don't see why one game having more prize money than SC2 always has to be a big deal. CS1.6 showed at EU finals that it's just as capable of generating as much viewers as SC2. In fact the amount of viewers was much higher during the CS finals, but then again there are some factors that could have come into play for that.
Im sorry but I cant find the information about when the finals will take place, could anyone tell me please? In addition, I would like to ask if there will be VOD's (and replays live updated, so we wont have to wait weeks or months for them) available to watch?

as said above, i agreed with him just posting the prize pool for people since i didn't see it in the OP ^^

Our show is staged at the CeBIt trade show our match hours have to fit within the opening hours.
That's understandable. Just wanted to whine a little bit I hope for some delays
So let's say i buy a premium ticket: when will i be able to watch games? Will they be uploaded right when they're finished or we will have to wait quite some time for them?

giving the time of the day(both US and EU) i hope they will be up very quickly

9am? Really, ESL? When I finally have a week of holiday even Starcraft is forcing me to wake up at normal hours D:
What a lineup to start off with though, would have really sucked not to be off tomorrow. One of those groups where really anyone could get through, but rooting for WhiteRa. Finishing it with Idra v Morrow later on adds some great drama as well, hypehypehype
I presume its working on your computer clock, rather than CET. The countdown also only counts down to the day, not the start of the event. according to the schedule SC2 starts at 9.15 CET on the morning of the 1st March.

actually if im not wrong that was because the CS finals were dragged on for quite some time? And quite a few people on the stream logged on to see the SC2 finals while this was happening..
Yeah there was a power outage during the quake semis that forced everything to be delayed. A lot of people ended up watching and discussing cs in the LR thread.
Hmm, is white ra vs ace going to be streamed? On the schedule, it says Cyberarena next to the match. Is That the stream? If so, I can't seem to find a stream called Cyberena. If not, can someone direct me to the stream?
Is there going to be a separate stream for each game, I'm gonna be watching all the starcraft but I love watching competitive gaming no matter what, wouldn't mind watching the other games.
Edit: The website is awesome, so organized. Easy to see brackets/schedules for every game.

There is a main stream from the stage (CS, QL, SC II), a stream B with CS and SC II, streams for other languages with schedules of their own. Tomorrow there will also be GosuGamers streaming matches not covered by ESL TV in English.

wtf? when did they play? I had the stream open since 9 and they streamed the delay images from the mainstage. Then I see on ESL page that qxc and idrea already played? But no link to where to watch. I dont understand how they managed to make this so confusing! I checked event 2 as well And now theyre showing quake? who wanna see that stuff?
hello IEM people, a small bit of feedback: Please, get a secon english stream and don't stream quake, when there's starcraft going on. That's coming from a person that really doesn't mind watching quake.
On March 02 2011 09:33 Turkoyze wrote: Did IdrA and MorroW play yet? Can't find any vods for anything =(
That game was not casted by anyone, which is curious since it was a rematch of the last year's finals.. Here is a link with the replays on it, if you wanna watch them. + Show Spoiler +
^^ if you download single games, the only spoiler info you'll run in to should be the # of games in the series (whether it went 2 or 3), however if you click on the IEM replay pack at the top, it will display the final group A standings, so blur your vision or cover things with your hand and try to navigate the download.
On March 02 2011 17:04 Marquise wrote: Isn't the stream supposed to go live right now? The site is so hard to navigate, I'm not sure if I'm just missing links or if there aren't any.
I agree, the site is hard to navigate. This is one of the least userfriendly tourneys that i tried to follow.
and the streams as well, but it's very inaccurate and messy. Also - most of the games are not casted in english. I do realise that its a global tourney including CS, LoL and QL along with SC2, but still - the previous ESL events were far superior in terms of organisation and streaming...
Why aren't there soundproof booths for the players? And correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the players are positioned so they can see the audience right behind their monitors.
almost all "LAN" tournament events are played on stages like this. Probably not cost efficient to do sound proof booths - especially for the team games like CS.
just bad not to have soundproof booths really.. Or let the players play in other areas and still cast it in the main hall or something like that.. Wonder how moon would have done if there was't for the cheering from all the people.
well i ve been there and i wonder if they didnt hear day9 shouting. The Players sat behind the Speakers but i still think they could hear very well the commentaries and the cheers and shouts.
But you have the same thing in other big online tournaments. If a player wants to trick he can join the live stream and hear the tactics of the enemys. I even wondered why day9 always commentated the tactics of the first minutes or the dangerous decisicions of the players. Only once he whispered out a commentary about a tactic as i can remember.
But i think the players concentrate on gaming and not on hearing.

why speculate when moon has already commentated that it was nto possible to hear the crowd
