He's been Top 200 EU since September. Consistently HIGH in the EU Top 200 rankings. He's not even always a Protoss player. Someone in IRC said he's random. If you check his Bnet profile, his most played race is shown as Terran. His Top 200 rankings change between at least Terran and Protoss (don't know about Zerg).
He's not an "unknown", he's not "come from nowhere", and he might not even be a protoss player.
Even a tiny bit of research would expose these things. Slasher even informed Wheat that he used to be a War3 player, but apparently that's not been mentioned.
Zeerax has been playing SC2 since the beta. He's got 3600 ladder games. He's probably played Strelok quite a few times before.
He is beast, he's somewhat new to competitive play, but he's even played in some competitions before, and has some references on various competition websites, and an entry in the TLPD as well. You do realize that there are countless tournaments run weekly and expecting anybody to keep up with each and every player who does well (or doesn't and just ladders a lot, which you seem to imply) is ridiculous. Further, even if he was "known" in wc3, having him be an unknown makes a better narrative. Hope July gets an invite. Ret + IdrA are locks. July, Nestea, Fruitdealer, Zenio, and Haypro fight for the remaining 3 spots. Wheat and Day9 commentate 3 matchups, with 4 players total in those matchups. 1 of those players is a relative unknown. I'm not saying they should watch and know everything about everyone, but 5 minutes research could give a little background. Maybe people like thinking someone's a total new underdog come from nowhere, but that's totally misrepresenting Zeerax in my opinion. Someone with 3600 ladder games who has been top 200 consistently shouldn't be described as some kind of unknown come-from-nowhere person when it's not an accurate representation of him, even if the "narrative" is better.
If your list of accomplishments is only "top 200", then that doesn't mean shit. That mean's he's an unknown. They're not saying he's some lowly bronze guy who snuck his way into a tournament.

ZeeRax maaan. I'm so proud that after the early days of wc3 we have an e-sports pro. And by the way he was pretty known in beta, I've seen husky & others cast a lot of games between him and TLO, also there was an epic Jinro vs Zeerax on Desert Oasis

The likelihood of IdrA not playing in the TSL would be him breaking one of his arms and elbow like Demuslim or doing something incredibly stupid. He does a lot of stupid stuff, but him to go way over the line before the tournament starts is highly improbable. I don't think anyone on staff hates Idra. Despite our differences I have no hard feelings against him what so ever. Of course you'll never admit it ! ( :D )

Idra, Ret, Nestea, CheckPrime, FD?

Zeerax was a top notch BW player before WC3 was ever released, so it's kind of sad hearing them label him as a WC3 player.

Hm, qxc TvP isn't that good I hear :|

Not when you say it like this ^^ But 1 gate 1 robo is very vulnerabel to banshee, because obv you only have one gate, that's what he said.
