I still think GSL's where it's at. I'd rather pay for that than an online league where most the people could never qualify for Code-A You do realize part of the reason that the skill level is higher in Korea is because it's taken more seriously historical and has better sponsors...? If you want the same for the western world then you need to support it so it can eventually reach that point. Not supporting it is completely idiotic and would only hurt the growth of western esports.
I'm not saying I'm against it, but iNcontrol has been hyping this like crazy and tonight was their chance to wow everyone. The prize money does that, everything else about it doesn't, and the production of tonight's show only adds insult to injury. I'm certainly not against it existing, I'll watch the LAN finals if they get good casters, but I'm not jumping up and down in excitement.

IdrA is never up and down with his gaming, he is at the highest level of SC2 and stays there. He will always win and always lose some. NesTea has not won a GSL in 2 months, are you saying he is now slipping? :|

how can day9 NOT be one of the NASL main casters? if there is one person who could sell E-Sports to the masses, its Sean Plott. The guy pretty much devotes his life to making people "get" starcraft, plus there is noone in the entire sc2 scene who comes close to his level of charisma and personality.

I think BW and SC2 can co-exist. It's two different games.
Also, I don't mind SC2 killing BW eventually, as long as it becomes as entertaining as BW. Right now, it's not(in my personal opinion), and if it killed BW right now I would get really angry.
SC2 has the potential though, and I really hope that I can enjoy it as much as BW one day :D
Edit: and by the way, most BW players support SC2, I find that there are more SC2 players that are hostile against BW enthusiasts than the opposite.

Because right now, at this moment in time, Day[9] himself is bigger than the NASL. Perhaps once it gets rolling they'll be able to bring him onboard. Also, the NASL is trying to establish its own brand. I would argue it would be detrimental to that effort if the NASL became The Day[9] Daily Showmatch League, which you know is what would happen.

I checked the first page and the past 5-10 pages and didn't see any mention of VODs anywhere, but I had to work today and missed this!
Anyone know if there are VODs available anywhere? I apologize in advance if this request is somehow a no-no (as far as I know these weren't pay-for matches like the GSL).

You mentioned Day9 before. Have you talked to other high profile casters? What are their thoughts on NASL?
Yeah. I mean I'm a pretty big community person. I've talked to Artosis, he's super excited but unfortunately for us, fortunately for him and everyone that loves him (which should be everyone) he's pretty rooted in the GSL. He personally did the interviews for Jinro and Idra in our show match but he's super excited and wants to help out and he's going to help out.
Then there's people like JP from MLG who is super excited and will definitely take a seat next to me for a few weeks, hopefully more. I've talked to djWHEAT. If you were to cut that guy open eSports would just pour out of him so he is just so excited but that's an unremarkable statement because, well he's super excited about everything eSports related.
And then Day9 was approached early on in the process but take it from his perspective. The guy has every hour of his life booked solid. So when this fledgling league comes in and says “hey, trying to do something super awesome, do you want to be a part of it?” and he's like “Uh, do I want to commit three months to something that's just starting, when I have my entire life sold out?” So understandably, he was like “Sure, talk to me when you get to the finals.” But hopefully as it grows, and it's pretty evident that it is a big stage, we'll get Day9 involved because he is the big commentator. There's just no question about it. I'd love to say I am the guy that is Day9 but I'm not, it's Day9.

Fair enough, and the production values do need work but all the streams for GCPL has been pretty great and the "live" stuff will probably get better as time goes on. I guess my original hostility (for lack of a better word) was that I never recalled anyone saying it'd be on TV (maybe I didn't keep up with the hype) and I feel a lot of the top foreigners are definately code A material.
I just think that even if the opening productions or whatever were lackluster that this is a clear situation where it's something of a grassroots movement by people who truly give a shit and supporting it monetarily would only do good things for western esports.

It's not a shame if that perception is created from his own comments towards other gamers...
I noticed when he was giving comments with Artosis after the last GSL. It's only my opinion and I understand others will not agree.
No need to attack me for a difference of opinions.

Guy just mouths off yet doesn't do anything decent himself considering he has been in korea now for what seems like forever... Apparently you didnt even listen to Jinro himself during the interview. If you're referring to the last question, Jinro is an amazingly nice guy and dodges the "best foreigner" question every time, but when you're rolling over somebody 8-3 in high profile and high money games, it's not "close". He's a class above Idra at the moment. The very last game of the showmatch showed it better than any other. Not at all. Your not even considering how big of landslide wins all of Idras have been, and how a a good portion of Jinros wins are on a razords edge. He himself admitted it, even Artosis agreed. Every rational person knows that, your letting your fandom get ahead of you.
A rational person knows that in a game like Starcraft, an 8-3 overall record in high profile matches, including a convincing win in 2 series stretched over a reasonably long period of time is a clear indicator of which player is better. Besides, it's not like Jinro didn't have his share of landslide wins, more than 3 in fact.
A less than rational person will take sportsmanship comments made in a post-game interview as a factual argument.

The NASL announcement is awesome I hope it will be great but I think that depends on some factors. As far as the announcement show it was pretty terrible aside from some good games. As others have mentioned production and commentary were both lackluster and there is no excuse for having things out of sync when nothing is even being done live. People who say we shouldn't criticize because they are doing all this work for esports are just as bad as the ones who say you cannot criticize something a player does unless you are better than them. They are trying to sell us on buying a NASL ticket. I have heard alot of things that make me want to buy one but have yet to actually see anything that would.
|
I'm not really worried about the production. it'll get better there's just no way that it won't considering the magnitude of this thing and also that it can't get much worse anyway:D just joking but seriously it will get much better.

BTW the voting thing is awesome. I know some people will poo-poo it as some kind of popularity contest that is disproportionate to the skill of the people being voted for, but it's a great way to get the community involved.
