Why does everyone respect the commentary of Day9, Artosis, Tasteless etc? Because they know the game through playing it at the highest level. I can't think of a time in CS history where a well-known player was also a commentator consistently. In over the past decade of following CS, the moments I recall having players commentate were extremely rare and when they did they said very little. CS is no longer very strategically uniform in nature which makes it difficult to predict the movements of a given team (unless in obvious rush and splits which aren't very common anymore). I definitely see the value in having a knowledgeable commentator, but Joe doesn't need to beat Fnatic in order to know what both the trends are in-game and the players that will make a big difference in rounds. | ||

Day9 and Tasteless both competed at WCG tournaments (among others) for BW and Day9 at least was A on ICCup, a level that translates roughly to really-fucking-great in SC2. No, Day nor Tasteless have played at the top level of SC2 but their BW pasts are pretty impressive. They've focused on commentating now but the games are similar and the experience carries over. | ||
