They just know the map perfectly, know where the items are, when the items spawn, where the other guy most likely will be based on items, his health, his weapons,...and of course they can hear the players. I know the map perfectly still from Quake 3 Arena, it's actually pretty small and easy. | ||

You scout a terran and see no gas. Why should you expect an expansion or early marine pressure? Same kinds of tactical thoughts go through the quake players heads based on what items they see up, what items they know they've picked up, and the game style of their opponents. A lot of the time, they know exactly where they are without hearing a damned thing. Same way I know that I'm in a lot of trouble on meta close positions as zerg if I scout the start of a second rax | ||
