This is a Korean tournament being run privately, featuring many top Koreans including 13 Code S players and the much-hyped oGsTheSTC. Since no-one else seems to be posting about this tournament, I decided to make a thread for today's games.

The main tournament thread is here, with all the information about the qualification process (All the TL guys got eliminated in qualification along with oGsMC and quite a few other notable players):

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=173192

Today (9th January) is the final day of the tournament with a 32 man bracket.
Most of the following information is taken from this PlayXP thread:

http://www.playxp.com/sc2/news/view.php?article_id=2520204

Photos here: http://www.playxp.com/sc2/news/view.php?article_id=2529791

Tournament Prize
1st Place: ~$4,300 +Trophy
2nd Place: ~$2,600 +Trophy
3rd Place: ~$1,700 +Trophy
Total Prize Pool: ~$8,700

Tournament Format
- Single Elimination (bo3 until ro8, semifinals onwards is bo5). Loser picks next map.
- Map Pool: GSL Map Pool (Shakuras is NOT included in the map pool due to it being removed from the ladder)
- First round starts 13:30 KST, all matches from ro32 to finals will be played today

How to Watch

- STREAM IS NOW LIVE --> http://live.gomtv.com/13514

Well he pooped on NSPgenius I guess.

Edit: I seriously want him in Code A next season solely because of tastosis. I'm giggling just thinking about it.

Is NexExcrement the guy who played in GSL code A the other day when they bleeped the name? The player Artosis was mocking because apparently its far harder to switch from protoss than to protoss, then he went on to win?

Guy seems solid as hell with terran if so.

Would be funny if Nex had two terran players, one who named themselves excrement and one who has a name that translates to excrement.

So to sate our curiousity I did a little digging and NEXbyun is supposed to be NEXexcrement.

Please start calling him NEXexcrement tastosis. Please.

NexExcrement just destroying Artosis's opinion about how its harder to switch from protoss than to protoss ! Got destroyed in GSL playing protoss and now 1-0 up on Nestea in the semi finals of a tournament with his Terran.

Though it's not helping the picture of Terran this tournament is painting

The only people I see stopping MVP @ GSL 4 are Tester/MC/Genius but his vP is hardly bad, just his least good match up ><

Unless Choya choya's him again, but then he'd have to drop another game as well in his group and that seems unlikely.

Considering that both of them raped every other Terran they faced today, the series I really wanted to see was MVP vs MK, but they didn't show it =/

I wonder if the replays will be released...

MVP is a monster. Basically losing only 1 game the entire tournament

Don't know why Nestea did allins every game (didn't watch the games but someone said so). I mean, it's obviously hard to beat mvp and requires flawless play but in the games i've seen from him (gsl vs idra, Gisado koth) he didn't seem unbeatable...

true...he never seemed to do anything special in the gsl, but nobody wants to face this guy. maybe we'll know after gsl4

Well I don't say he never did anything special, he's obviously an awesome player but i thought a player of Nesteas caliber should be able to put up a decent fight and shouldn't have to resort to allins.

If you see the matches today, MVP forces Nestea to make as many lings as possible to counter his marine push in early game, which will delay his tier2 tech. I suppose Nestea knows he does not have a chance to win if he doesn't allin. When Mvp gets stim and Concussive Shells ready, his banelings must have not finished speed upgrade. Maybe thats the reason he chose allin.

You mean the Gisado koth where he all killed the zerg while losing only 1 game over the course of 5 bo3's? >_>

What, MVP 3/0 Nestea? My race is in trouble.

Nestea has looked the most impressive so far in GSL4, of the Zergs, but apparently he wasn't even able to take a game off him?

This tournament pretty much confirms what I felt : IMMvP is to terran what oGsMC is to protoss : a good step ahead of others.

I know, Nestea is by far the most consistent zerg, and the one i believe to the best currently. (wasn't sold that Nestea was the best, until recently) Also that Newdawn guy, he beat in the first round is actually pretty good.

MKP and MVP are the only players who can stop oGsMC. No Zergplayers can.
I think it's not the race, it's the players. These 3 young guys are too much ahead of the old Zergplayers like Nestea and FD.
But don't cry dear Zergs, you will have a young Zerghero soon :-P

(probably it's also the races :D I think it's like T > Z > P > T right now)

He played against TOP, who is his teammate and probably knows his strategies well. Also, this was after about 15 games (including a 4-3 series final win over ST_Bomber in the YGosu tournament) in a row at about 2am Korean time. He probably was tired.

Besides that instance, MC hasn't been beaten convincingly in a tournament (yeah he lost in the gainward tourney to i think bomber 1-2) since his rise in GSL3 in any matchup so far.

But yeah, other than bomber/mvp/mkp and that series against top he hasn't really dropped a tournament game to terran/zerg/toss yet

i doubt anyone can stay dominant in sc2 like in sc1
happened to FD, happened to nestea, will happen to MC. but still....MC will probably win most of everything this year.

MC's PvZ is not as good as his PvT.. same way as MVP's TvP is nowhere near his TvZ. Neither of them is invincible, TOP 4-0'd MC not too long ago

Um MC that same day had played a bo7 against ST_Bomber that ended up 4-3 then he had to play in Gisado's KOTH in multiple bo3s against some members of the zerg team(I can't remember who, I think NesTea was one of them?). That and they both had to play on the US server, MCs gameplay revolves around using forcefields really well and with the high latency he can't really do his usual perfect forcefields.

Yup, haven't watched all games but for example Fruitdealer made some crucial mistakes in the LT game like fighting the deciding fight while 10 banelings guarded the destructible rocks. As you might have noticed I said it would indeed require flawless play to beat him but it seems like most of the Zerg players enter the game without even thinking they have a shot at winning which doesn't seem to help.

Well speaking of some tournament that apparently this thread is not about, seems like MVP is pretty good at Starcraft 2.

what I meant was that it´s funny that in BW (T)MVP wouldn´t have been given a second thought and in SC2 he´s bonjwa. Just goes to show the gap between the two games.

Also, (Z)Hyuk and (T)Ssak dropped (T)Flash out of the starleagues this season.... so it´s not like (T)MVP has been the only one to take a game off (T)Flash in a long time.

Because he saw MVP's success here as an easy opportunity to make presumptions that help him show us all that broodwar is superior of course

If MVP is a scrub, then I don't know what to describe the rest of the players that switched from BW. But to be honest he could have been the #1 Terran on Woongjin Stars if he had stayed.

mvp was a rather promising player in sc1. he beat flash, baby, best, stork etc in an individual league, and all the games were 20minutes plus macro matches. but then he took a dive in televised performance, dropped out of both osl and msl. speculatively, it could be because of losing interest in bw, we see a similar pattern in another promising young player in IrOn/MC. going by the letter grading, he's a solid A, which cannot be said for any other sc1 pro who transitioned.

A lot of you seem to be wondering why NesTea would resort to all-ins against mvp. I haven't actually watched the games, but do keep in mind that mvp is NesTea's teammate. They're both on Incredible Miracle, so they've both played each other a lot and know each other's styles a lot. Perhaps NesTea didn't particularly care about this tournament, as a lot of other players wouldn't. NesTea has already stated that he only focuses on the GSL so far.

Also, to whomever was dumb enough to say that "MC can only be stopped by MKP or MVP" is actually very wrong. MC is like a Protoss version of MKP, and that is not a compliment. MVP is on a way higher level than MC or MKP. MC lost to NesTea pretty horribly in season 2 and don't go thinking "oh well he wasn't good yet," because he said himself that he lost the games because his opponent was very good.

Someone else said that MC is the Protoss hero while MKP and MVP are the Terran heroes and Zerg doesn't yet have a hero. I'm a Protoss player and MC will have to do far more to impress me than being aggressive and having it work because their opponents didn't prepare as well as they should have. Don't get me wrong, MC is a good player, but he's way overrated. Also, MKP really isn't anything more than a decent player who abuses odd timings to catch them off guard. MVP and NesTea are the two best players right now by a long shot. A lot of people think that Protoss is underpowered but I think that's just wrong. There just aren't that many good Protoss players that can really hold a candle to good Terran and Zerg players.

Just because this is your opinion, doesn't make it true.

MKP is widely regarded as one of the best terrans, for you to say the guy that emulates him is amazing while calling MKP "decent" is laughable.

i wouldn't count any game that was not in a gsl. as long as mc keeps his dominance in gsl it dosent matter what he does in other tournament. no top player is going to play 100% and do anything to win in a tourney that is not gsl. top 3 terran imo are mvp mkp and jinro not sure on order.

I had some flashbacks of early sc2, came across this tournament and was wondering if anyone knew of existing VODs?
