My god. I had no idea that a tournament this big would be in Calgary. I was debating to sign up but then I saw the likes of Firezerg and Stalife who scared me away D;.

I do have a question though, when is your next tournament for SC2? As a high school student the entry fee of 40$ scared me off a little bit but I heard you guys had "Casual" tournaments how big is the prize pool in those tournaments?

Generally for the casual cash tournaments it is $25 a ticket ($15 house, $10 prize pool - 60,30,10 split) however at the moment our main focus is for this upcoming StarCraft II tournament that has enough prizes that even the casual player can walk away with something. If you live in the calgary area I suggest signing up to our facebook, twitter & website to stay informed on future events.

Although we haven't officially announced this yet but one of our global sponsors is coming on board and will be providing enough swag that everyone will be walking away with roughly $20-$30 just from them in addition to $1,100 in major hardware pieces. Raising the prize pool an additional $2,000 - $3,500ish. We are just waiting on official specs on the hardware and swag to announce it to the community.

Tetris Effect will be coming down to cover the tournament for another episode of their podcast. If you're a fan of Street Fighter you've most likely heard of Tetris Effect from the infamous "Canada Cup" SF4 event here in Calgary some months back. Tetris Effect is a Canadian gaming centric podcast and we are looking forward to having them at the event.

Can we please stop lumping in prize valuations into the cash amounts? It's misleading.

We have stated from the very beginning "Cash & Prizes" and that is why we have a break down of the cash element and the prize element. The total amount of prizes being given away (including the cash) is over $7k. Thank you for your input. We thought it was pretty clear.

We will be releasing that information early this coming week in a document however it will be a pretty balanced tournament for the prizes. Was there a particular item you had your eye on?

Not sure what everyone in Calgary is doing tonight however at SwitchBox(380 9737 Macleod Trail SW) is showcasing the GSL / OSL finals on their projector screen. SwitchBox has a special rate in place that is $5.00 for entry into the venue and $3.50 (which is a members rate) for computer use per hour. The earliest you can arrive to get these rates is 10:00 PM local time.

There will be a large number of people watching the finals including members from the UofC-SC2 club. Bring some extra cash as it looks like the group will be ordering some pizza for the event!

There is certainly alot of well named players attending however that is the great thing about tournaments as it only takes one little mistake to get that edge in a game to win it all. I know a few people are attending to gauge where they stand as a player and if you are clocking in all those hours into the game competing is a nice way to find out how you rank. That and prizes are always nice

Second this. To be honest, having $1,200 in cash and like $6,000 in random hardware is nowhere near as good. Its not something that will draw lots of top players, most good players in legit teams have the hardware already, so playing for more hardware is not really worth it. And its also incredibly time consuming /annoying to sell that stuff, I've won some hardware at LANs and it took forever to sell :p ..

You should sell the hardware, then make the cash pot $7500 :p Then you'd get a lot of top players going ~~

Hey Cynical,

Unlimited amount of people can register however we are only accepting the first 64 paid users to participate in the tournament. Tickets are available for purchase at SwitchBox and you can also purchase tickets from our website. Be sure to register in advance as you will be asked to do so at the door.

Thanks.

Any word on when brackets are going up?

also, how is switchbox going to handle that many people? If I recall its could seet 20-30 comfortably, but this is 64 gamers plus i would expext at least that many again in friends.
