Putting on my tin foil hat, the players/brackets seem non-random. eg I think this is rigged. I think that gomTV is looking to find new players to test this season, hence the experienced players from season 1 have mostly been placed in the last two days. If the season1 r64 players were evenly spread out among the 4 days, there wouldn't be as many new faces. That makes zero sense. GOM has every incentive to rig the competition in the other direction; that is, to try to put successful players from last season against the least power competition possible.
Remember, this is GSL pre-season. The first season proper starts in the new year. These are ranking tournaments. Sure they could rank them but that is not the purpose of these events. These are to get the rankings to use in season one.

Exactly the imperfection of the spread is what I think proof that its random. Besides, GomTV has no intrest in finding new players.

I havent read the whole thread, but does anyone know when my favourite fruitdealer qualifies? Cuz, il start punching my screen if he doesnt qualify.

I find that hard to believe, given the potential prize pool. If a significant number of them don't try out, I'd say that the tourney organizers probably passed word on down for not all of the season 1 folks to show up.

More "known" tosses and terrans are getting eliminated by unknowns than zergs are.

변길섭 is the former OSL winner Sync.
Wouldn't be surprised if he just 3 raxed every game.

Anypro's opponent in the Ro8 is BlueJung.
Rain vs 이건길 Anypro vs BlueJung
Bottom part of C-2 bracket. Top part already in semis between 류재현 aka 시아 and 김수호 aka 수호신.

Losira failed to qualify, but he did lose to good player TankboyPrime. But it still does look like we are going to see less Zergs than in GSL1. Althought the average quality of the zergs will probably be higher.
Yeah, agreed. As HolydaKing said though, that means they might be in potentially stacked brackets overall or just plain be forced to eliminate each other to get the round of 64. Cezanne going on now, so gogo Cezanne ;D

From a marketing standpoint it would benefit gsl to have a lot of new faces each season in the ro64.
They are trying to perpetuate the image that GSL and SC2 are open to everyone, and that everyone has a shot at 85k. They can't perpetuate that image if the same pros are in the ro64 every month.
Do I think it is rigged? Who knows, not particularly...
Do I think blizzard/gretech would go so far as to set their brackets up in a way that helps to market their league and game the way they want it to be marketed? Yes I think they are capable of it.
If you aren't biased you can see how gimmicky and transparent the approach to sc2 has been.
Whether it be asking tasteless early on to make sure he does zoom-ins on units and structures to advertise the graphics and pretty lights in sc2 (i thought this was about the competition and esports, not about highlighting the games graphics) or whether it be making sure tasteless talks about how packed the studio is when there are only a few rows of people.
I don't agree with that kind of tacky marketing strategy myself, I say if you are going to market sc2 as an esport let it stand on it's own merits, and if it is incapable of standing on it's own merits then you shouldn't be pushing it as an esport.

The people on GTR's Day 1 list got on that list for reasons other than the quality of their play. Artosis, Luffy, GoStop, and Haypro are on that list because they're special in some way. GTR didn't keep a "these guys were high on ladder but lost anyway" list. The list that he posted was an afterthought and is pretty irrelevant when discussing balance.

But allright, will just have to reserve judgement till the qualifiers are over. However, on a personal level, do you think we will see improvement over next two days?
