Didn't notice the full FruitDealer interview posted

+ Show Spoiler +
Q: How do you feel about winning your first championship ever?
A:Every game I played to get here was tough. I thought that I would be nervous playing on the big stage, but I talked with Sung-jae hyung (IntoTheRainbow/HopeTorture) and we agreed to just play for fun. I'm happy to win.

Q: How much of your skill do you think you were able to show?
A: I think I was able to show all of it. I was a bit nervous in the first game, but I was able to focus knowing my opponent would be nervous as well. I think I played 130% today.

Q: You said you had prepared a special strat for Desert Oasis, what was it?
A: People don't use hydralisks much, so I was going to use them in game four and seven. However I started getting behind in the early game, and Sung-jae hyung started his harass very fast so my plans got messed up. Terran picked an economy heavy build, while I was spending too much gas, which didn't come together well for me. When my opponent starting dominating the game, I knew I was going to lose.

Q: You got off to a 3-0 lead, when did you think you had it wrapped up?
A: I was very nervous at the beginning. If had kept playing like I had in game one, it would have been difficult for me, but starting from game two I was able to relax and play like I usually do. Then I thought I might be able to win today.

Q: Even though you won, Zerg is still considered to be underpowered.
A: The other races have unique things they can try to do. They can do a variety of strats liek all-in, etc, but Zerg is stuck defending, defending, and defending some more. If you slip up while defending, you often end up in a dangerous situation. I think Zerg's lack of strategic options makes them a weaker race.

Q: So you think that Zerg still needs a buff, even after winning the tournament?
A: It's shameless, I know, but I still think ZvP is hard (laughs). Since I beat a Terran in the finals, I'm confident against T, but I still think vsP is tough and needs some adjustments.

Q: Did the siege tank nerf in patch 1.1 help?
A: I could barely win games before the patch day, winning 2~3 games out of 10 was very stressful. I found my touch after the patch, and I benefited a lot from it.

Q: What kind of help did your team TSL give you?
A: First off I ate very well. I like to resolve my stress through eating, and I was able to resolve my Zerg stress very well. Being able to eat a lot was a big help (laughs).

Q: Season 2 prelims will start soon, what are your goals?
A: I have the same initial goals as Season 1. Start with getting through the prelims, and then set your goal one step higher every time you advance. Since I was a progamer in the past, I had an easier time adjusting in Season 1 than the other players. But now a lot of the others have adapted as well, and a lot of ex-pros are coming to the game, so I think it will be an even playing field.

Q: You mentioned ex-progamers competing in Season II...
A: I don't have many friends amongst currently active Brood War gamers. So I don't really know what the mood is over in that camp. The people I'm friendly with have already switched to SC II and are claiming SC II is the new mainstream, but I can't be sure since I don't know any present BW pros.

Q: Even though this was the very first tournament, a lot of spectators showed up.
A: I thought that maybe 500 people would come because of the rain and all (note: Fomos reports 3500 showed up), but a ton of people came. So even before the game started, I looked at the crowd and thought "Wow!" I was grateful for the big turnout, and it psyched me up so I could play hard.

Q: Any final comments?
A: A lot of my friends came to cheer for me today, thank you. Also, I was happy my parents came to watch. I've lived on my own since I was 20, and my parents never showed up to anything like this during my career as a gamer. But when they finally came to watch today, it really made me want to win. Thank you.

Obviously, I can't definitely claim this since I can't see ITR's first-person, but I'm almost sure him losing his barracks has nothing to do with reaction time. There was nothing else going on and he's a very fast player. He lost his barracks because he didn't expect Cool to commit to those attacks (and partly because his scvs were blocked from repairing when he finally realized Cool wasn't backing off). It's what Tasteless was saying.

I've read so many comments here criticizing his reaction time. How can you really think it's reaction time? Especially in the first attack when his reapers gave him plenty of time to react.

He lost his barracks twice when they could've been easily repaired, how can you argue those weren't huge mistakes?

Read my post again. I never said it wasn't a mistake. I said his lack of repairing wasn't due to reaction time, which a lot of people have claimed.

The mistake was due to decision making. He decided he didn't need to repair because he underestimated Cool's commitment to the attack. By the time he realized Cool was committed, he sent his scvs.

Just a bad style matchup for HopeTorture. HT beats all the other Terrans in the tournament, but I think some of them would have had a better shot against FD.

Fun games!
I'd rather be zerg rushing

Would be amazing if gsl released the replays, heck I would pay a small fee for all the replays from the whole tournament.

Yeah, I think people who bought the premium service should be allowed to DL the replays.

I really want to know how Cool managed to get zergling speed, baneling nest, overlord speed, ventral sacs, spire, mutalisks, banelings, roaches, infestation pit, infestors...... how the fuck do you have enough gas to do this shit?

I don't think he pulls drones out of gas after zergling speed. He then gains map control with his 5-6 mutas, and double/triple expands.

Next GSL should really be double elimination for that reason - so that people can't advance by just being good in mirror (Or Protoss that are strong in PvT)

Zerg is an awesome race as long as it's player has a really high APM.

im glad cool won, and its awesome that it looks like his parents accept his progamer lifestyle. its just too bad that so many people attribute his wins more to ITRs "bad" play rather than Cool's good play. I didnt see any of these games (is there a place to watch for free? dont care about video quality), but was ITRs play really that bad?

It wasn't necessarily "bad", it was just not "finals" level. He didn't play S-class, he played A-class. In the first two games, he went for cutesy harass tactics that Cool repeatedly shut down. However, he continued to go for them, and Cool happily warded them off.

ITR didn't do any of the things that really punishes Zerg, and didn't exploit any of the timings that Terran can pull off when the Zerg player is still in the "early game" stage; this stage is the one at which the Zerg race is very weak. Cool 14 hatched four out of the five games IIRC (four out of five for sure), and ITR did not adapt. He continued to let Cool tech, allowing him to speed to the stage of the game where Zerg is strong.

Case in point. TheLittleOne uses a refinery first build against Zerg that gets an insanely fast Hellion. If the Zerg player is going 14 hatch, then he is almost guaranteed to lose 4-5 drones before he can defend. From there, the Terran can take his natural at his leisure, because he has the units (Hellions) that hard counter the units (Zerglings) that the Zerg player can only make for at least 2-3 minutes. Then tech to Marauder/Thor, get turrets to fend off mutas, push, and win the game.

I would have liked ITR to go for some early attack build like this, since Cool demonstrated his willingness to keep 14 hatching. However, he stuck to hard harass builds until game 4. He then goes for 3 rax mass marine timing push, only to have it stopped by Cool going for an early baneling nest (this was pure luck). However, he manages to win game 4. Instead of saying "Wow, that actually worked" and sticking with it, goes back to his harass builds in G5, and Cool runs him over.

Just not smart.

Does anyone know specifically how the GOM site's pass works? I haven't signed up, but I want to... Since season 1 is over, does that mean that if I were to sign up for the 20 dollar season pass, I would only get access to the season 1 videos, and when the next season starts I'd have to drop another 20?

The Fruitmeister would of pwned anyone put in front of him. He was cool, calm and collected. The only reason he didn't go 4-0 was because he got a bit cheeky and decided to play with 1 hand tied behind his back and not use mutas in game 4 just for the sake of being different. Mutas are essential for map control and harass. So crowning the victory in that fashion would of been like pie in the face of an opponent.

TLO/Morrow/Anyone else would not of fared better because they haven't faced that kind of pressure before. It definitely would of been new territory to be harassed by the zerg in so many new and deadly ways and finding your own harass getting blocked or downright pwned back to the stoneage. No, I don't think there was a better victor than FD. Congrats dude!!

Guaranteed? Like reapers with nothing else on the field guaranteed itr the win in game 5?

Who doesn't build marines to counter mutas on that map. He second guessed him. Not luck, it's strategic thinking.

No, I really think SC2 is your first competitive game..

But enough about balance, since you're obviously a Terran player.
