ahahahaha you'd pass out by winning games, I originally had winner in the sentence until I realised that.

What are the guidelines to whether you should enter the Pro or Amateur tournament?

Yeah double elim would be great, if it's single elim and it starts at noonish, and "expected" finish time is 8-9pm, it'll more likely finish at like 3-4pm.

Sounds like I'll be going in pro tourney then.
Getting butsmashed 1st round will be a good experience
Maybe I'll see what it feels like to be totally outclassed XD

It's going to be gloriously ironic if i lose to you in round 1 after trying to coax you into the pro tourney. (in the alanis morrissette school of irony where it isnt actually ironic at all and is actually unlucky)

How can you recommend an 800 diamond player go in the amateur bracket? How many players do you think are above 800 that are in Melbourne and showing up? It will be like 4 ppl in pro, 50 in amateur.
It also means that actual amateurs will just get floored in 'their' bracket. I think the format (double elim), and prizes should definitely push people to compete at the top level... And amateur just for people to play around.
(either way unfortunately I can't make it, but I would love to see the best players play more than 2 games)

lol. i'm like 300-400 diamond and joined the pro. just for the fun of it. :D

Awww luv to cum to this gl to everyone going

Yeah i agree! Let's make it double elim since it doesnt sound like pro comp will have many entries and it promotes people to join the pro division over amateur, hence earning xin gaming more money anyway, good idea Ftrunkz, you are truly a god among mere mortals!
I can assure you that the Pro tournament is far from empty.

Once again, the Pro tournament has much more than 4 players participating.

No need to be prickly. If there is somewhere that shows a list of sign ups I must have missed it sorry. In any case I hope you're right.

But still, is there any chance of having it double elim? Having 3 spots giving prizes but having it single elim just doesn't make sense =[...

I will try rock up to Cydus on Sat and watch some games.
Planning to get shit faced in Richmond at the Precinct that night if anyones keen to join!

So how many people are signed up so far? Because even a 64man+ double elimination won't take 8-9 hours.

Unfortunately we are not saying how many people or who has signed up until tournament day.

We believe the tournament will take long enough with single elimination, since all games are played to the best of three if you stuff up in one game you have two more games to redeem yourself. Also another round cannot commence until all games in the previous one have finished therefore if you win two games in a row both in under 10 minutes you may have to wait for another couple to finish their three games that are taking 40 minutes each. We have stated that it will take until 8-9pm only so people do not make plans until then because there is a possibility that it may take that long.

mmm i understand but i really hope you re-consider, but dont get me wrong still very thankful you are putting this tourny on =D.
It's not about getting a 'second chance', its more about the results accurately representing who the top 3 players are, and especially since there are prizes for top 3.
eg: http://a.yfrog.com/img148/4749/blizzardseainvitational.jpg
arguably, via the random seeding, in the upper bracket, the top 6 players are all on one side, that means that if that tournament was single elim (assuming my predicition is correct), the 7th best player in the tournament would get 2nd place, if this was single elim that would mean the 2nd representative for SEA at blizzcon would be our 7th best player...
|
If you want mid diamond players to go to the pro event, remove the prizepool from the amateur one and make it hardware only. EZPZ.
Waiting for the next round seems odd, what's the reasoning behind that mind if I ask? Just to make it easier to keep track of results?

We thank you for your input, Unfortunately this time round we are sticking to our current format, we may in future events have it as double elimination.

Yes it is so spectators can track results without confusion.

Should draw up a big interactive bracket that you can post on the wall and update all day. :3
