Greetings, Teamliquid! At 6:00PM EDT on August 12th, I will be hosting the first ever Icarus Cup! This tournament will be very different from any that have proceeded it, and will create an excellent balance between competition and entertainment. Applications to play in the tournament are being accepted from all players, regardless of skill level (however skill level will be taken into consideration when selecting the players who are to compete). 16 players will be selected, and will play their games on the US servers.

+ Show Spoiler +This tournament will showcase the potential Starcraft 2 has for being the post popular spectator eSport of all time. Creativity and the "pimpest play" will be rewarded equally to winning the tournament. Until the finals, games will be played in a Bo3 format. When there are only 2 players remaining, the tournament will conclude with an unspeakably epic Bo5. 1st Round will be BO1. When the conclusion of the tournament has been shown, voting will open as to the "Pimpest Play" of the tournament, which each player will chose from their own games. The player selected after this voting process will be named the Player's Choice Winner, and will collect the same amount of prize money as the overall bracket winner! Winning games will not only bring your closer to winning the bracket portion of the tournament, but will also give you more opportunities to blow away the community with your revolutionary play style!!

Want to play to get even more known and make moola I've already placed in the semis of 4-5 tourneys iirc now. Gosucoaching semis, craftcup semis (made both semis in the same day), TDS I was in quarters I believe until it randomly stopped and had secret finals (lol), wolfcup semis, an iccup tourney semis. Lots of semis -_- and beaten lots of these "known" top players on ladder.

If anyone could make a banner / some artwork with Photoshop for the tournament it would be much appreciated . PM me with submissions for banners or any other relevant artwork! The theme is the Greek legend of Icarus - who's wax wings melted when he flew too close to the sun.
The person who is selected to have their artwork act as the logo / banner will recieve compensation for their efforts!! :D

Was very well known in the Beta, was ranked 1st in the Diamond league until i went on vacation and dropped to rank 8. As of now I am ranked 22 on the Diamond League for the game SC2 which I bought today. Would love to participate into this tournament as I can become an extremely interesting player. I was considered to be on of the top Protoss players above WhiteRa.

the pimpest plays idea is just awful imo. u cant just say i give u money if u play cool, apperently u dont understand how the game works then. terran got 10 times easier to make these "pimp plays" that everyone loves
pimpest plays should come naturally out of players who actually think its good for the game and wants to win, not just toy around and try to do something fancy TT
so meanwhile everyone is making nukes and motherships, someone try spend my time on actually playing this game and actually trying to win instead of make himself look good and wins easy :D. if sc1 taught me anything its that once u learn the game macro and bos and timings is the beauty, not some silly allin builds imo. i feel like ur discriminating a big portion of players by saying pimp play is more valuable. ur giving out the wrong message to new users too

If you win, you get half the prize pool. If you get the "pimpest play", you get the other half.
I'll agree with you on the fact that solid fundamentals is integral to the game as a whole. The players in this tournament have their fundamentals down. The plan isn't to have a player building 5 ghost academies and doing a mass nuke drop, it's to give that extra little mental push when you think "Can I get away with this?".
In the NHL All-Star game, both teams play to win. But it isn't the olympics, it's a spectator's game. People watch to see breakaways, incredible saves, and just a generally fun game. That doesn't mean the players forget how to skate
Thread updated with full list of players. Thanks to everyone who applied, there were some really skilled players that unfortunately I just didn't have room for. I'll be holding another, bigger, tournament later this year that will hopefully be able to accomodate the huge amount of applications I got.

If everyone could join my irc channel at 5:30pm EDT that would be fantastic. Channel is #fazestarcraft on the same server as TL - irc.quakenet.org on 6667. I'd set up a cool link like Wolf where you click it and go to the channel - but I have no clue how . You can probably just go to the TL room, then type /join #fazestarcraft and be good! Also, the first round will be played as a BO1, due to the fact that all games are being casted / saved as VOD. Hope to see everyone there!

Its funny that on the Top 200 list posted by blizzard that Capoch which is ranked 74th did not get into the event but Sinatra ranked 86th got in, or that MoMan is ranked 193rd but got in. I am curious how you decided to accept people in your tournament because it obviously does not include Blizzard's Top 200 post.

Well, I will be watching this very attentively because I like to root for the underdog but I really would have liked to have seen Capoch in the tourney, i love watching him. Wilko is definetly an underdog since he isnt even on the top 200 so I might be secretly rooting for him to make a name for himself.

I would like to see more tournaments with "pimpest plays" awards, MVPs and such in the future. Perhaps it could become a standard element of most tournaments. It doesn't even always require a material reward, just the title. But half the prize for the pimpest play is a fine scheme, I liked it. My vote will go for MorroW's mass MULE call down in battle; a move which I refer to as the terran "force field". (the zerg "force field" is mass changelings holding position, again capable of blocking retreat)
