_rdm_ AKA ruthless, painuser, trypt, and nMn should be up for consideration. They knocked out half the players on that list for HG tournament.

No offense to painuser, ive played customs with him and he's a nice guy, but he has no place in this tourny.... He's neither skilled or known enough

The issue with all invitational turnies is that invite only leaves out a lot of UNKNOWN talent, just because you dont know who someone is or they are relatively unknown doesnt mean that they wont stomp your face in.

yes but when I'm like 5-1 or 6-1 against said person and I am no where near the top 100 let alone top 16 globally right now, they shouldn't be in this prestigious of a tournament, and suggesting they should is pretty stupid.

i think most of the people complaining about "famous" people are referring to lumi and orb. if going by idra's logic, have they won or placed high in any tournaments? i dont believe they have, nor do they have ladder records that are even remotely impressive. they are famous because they have streamed a lot of sc2, not because they are very good or placed high in sc tourneys.

Lumi played well in first 2 iCCup TV Leagues. And Orb is decent. He's certainly not as bad as some people make him out to be. He isn't at the level of some of these guys, but he is still a very good player.

There's a precedent for taking fame into account when determining the invite list for a tournament. Remember the GSI? (ok, I'm sure a lot of people on this sub-forum don't, but whatever.) GOM invited 16 players, and one of them was (T)BoxeR, someone who definitely wasn't top 16 material. However, his inclusion made people more excited about the tournament, so no one batted an eye at GOM's decision.

Orb is high plat. There's no compelling reason not to invite him.

Yeah, but as a sponsor you don't really care about finding unknown talent or even having the best quality of games possible. You just want people to tune in and see your brand name. A huge open entry tournament might be of greater interest to the esports community, but as far as getting a sponsor's name out there, a small invite-only tournament produces the same results with a much smaller investment.

is no one else confused by the sponsor? I mean unless they are going to create a sc2/tl app they have no real connection to the gaming world. At least for the Poker Strategy TSL, poker/sc have had a connection for quite awhile, but some random iphone related site seems quite odd. But oh well, as long as it produces a decent turny with good games thats what matters i guess.

This just isn't true. Sponsors do not have to have a connection with the program's content to be effective. They just need to feel like the viewers could use their product. And obviously, an app store feels like the people who will watch this tournament have computers, are tech savvy, and might want what they have to offer. It's not the program they are sponsoring its who is watching that program.

i had no opinion on this matter but after this ridiculous spam campaign, i would urge the tournament NOT to invite gretorp. if a player has to resort to this sort of stuff hes probably not good enough. a true top player would let his play speak for itself, not his 1-post spam fans.

yeah thats great baller, how is he suppose to "let his play speak for itself" when it is an invite-only tournament. Gretorp went toe to toe with Jinro, Day9's idol and won. He's also top plat in his div in both us and euro server. He has a good number of people watching his stream. It's obvious this tournament is to get a lot of people to tune in, so cut the BS, gretorp has the skill and rep to be in this tourney.

While I think my TvT is pretty terrible right now (and as such I can't judge how he'd do vs for instance, Lucifron), I did think Gretorp played very well.
