this is incentive for discussion about Observer Strategy, in itself, and as part of Team Strategy.
i'd like to be part of new or existing team as an 'observer' - responsible for sensing for threats, scouting & recon. informing / calling support when needed / neccessary.
- should work on map understanding. - should mount scouting/recon operations as needed & neccessary. - scouting is without engaging enemy forces, recon is with possible engagement. there can be for example recon patrol teams.
questions that come to Mind:
- who else (which role) should be a part of this team. - should i defend my base at all? - should i scout/recon with probes, with how many and when to start? - and more...

This is sc2 not LoL or dota...we have no such thing as an observer strategy unleas you play protoss.
|
but perhaps we can have.
it's strategy for a team of players, each fulfilling a role such as scouting, resourcing, attacking, etc...
yes, it's protoss.
i play protoss mostly.

Didn't we just have a thread like this a few hours ago?

@OhDearGod - yes we had, but it was closed because of 'looking for team', so no room for discussion there anymore.

It was hard to understand your post but I think I get it now: You want to be part of a team (like a 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4) and just be there to gather information.
To answer your question, no player should focus solely on gathering information. You obviously need to have some kind of contribution to the army as well so you're not leaving your teammate with a 2v3 situation. The best way to gather information would be with aggression with fast units, so for zerg you could have a speedling opener and scout with those while applying some pressure and then continue it later with mutalisks.

@Nadja - Actually i think You understood me well, and that it's good idea of Yours.
A little of light forces skirmishing & sabotaging buildings won't hurt.
Blink Stalkers mostly, but also others, Dark Templars would be an Apex of Recon... tried it in a Player vs AI 4v4 game and it worked.
Other things such as Colossi only when neccessary, that's the idea.
Details of a Player vs AI play:
Map: Overwatch, Difficulty Level: Easy (both of allied & enemy AIs). Speed: Faster.
we obliterated enemy without losing any Player or AI on our side.
|
Well, beating easy AI doesn't mean anything.
A player who only does scouting is nearly useless in team games. You have to build units like everyone else, otherwise it is basically a 3v4. 90% of team games in hots are 1base rushes anyways since most maps have shorter rush distances than steppes of war, the early worker scout is enough..

ahahahah still not closed?

well if you play zerg and 10pool speed you will always know what your opponents are doing because you are always running lings around the map trying to attack them. does that count?

I play random in 2v2s and 4's, the best way to scout is through early game harass. Because it's a team game, you can get real aggressive with your early game rushes. For example, as Protoss I'll open 11 gate into 2 oracles (as it was fortold in the holiest of books "The Great Book of Protoss Bullshit). Normally it's a cheesy all in build but with it I can get the benefit of scouting what my opponents are doing and kill a few probes.
As Terran I go gas 1st reactor hellions, reason being that it will roast early game lings and marines which are a threat in the early game.
As Zerg I go 10 pool speedlings, it punishes super greedy zergs (15 hatches) or dumb players who decided not to wall.
Either way I'm going to figure out what my opponents are doing based off of what tries to defend.
Day 9 was right when he said that one of the easiest ways to see what your opponent is building is to attack and see what shoots back.
Also, I wouldn't play vs the AI unless you and your partner just want to practice a particular build. You can hash a lot of your strategy by yourself or with your teammate by getting on the ladder through trial and error. Otherwise playing vs the AI IMHO is a waste of time.

This is actually super legit; someone coordinating all the action in a team game would be immensely useful. Sadly though, there just isn't enough interest in team games for this to take off.

scouting / recon can be done with any of units.
as part of harassment as well.

its stupid
