I am gold league zerg on SEA servers and the only way I have been losing lately is either just from getting out played, OR the main reason being this build
I try to "counter" but using Muta/ling/Bling and maybe infestor's if I have enough gas, but the tanks just rip apart all ground units, while the stim'ed marines just destroy my muta's. I'm not even sure this is the right way to deal with this but I am stumped.
It usually happens around mid game, when the terran just pumps a bunch of siege tanks and marines, then just parks them everywhere.
I know being gold league I'm pretty terrible at this game but I'm just trying to improve with new strats, so Thanks in advanced for any advice!

This really comes down to control/positioning and if they have enough tanks it is rather difficult to beat.
Target fire the tanks with your mutas. If you keep your banelings chasing the marines, they wont be able to kill the mutas without getting killed themselves. You also want a good balance of lings to banes. The lings should really just be a meat shield for the banes as they charge in, so make sure you send the lings in first and if they do survive the tank's fire make sure they're surrounding and taking out the tanks
Hope this helps

Honestly I usually go Roach/Baneling/Ling. You don't necessarily need mutas unless the terran has a huge tank mass. In smaller numbers roaches can easily take out the tanks and then your banes are for the bio.

Muta baneling, surprisingly. You only need to land banelings solidly on his marines one time to win the game. There is a limit to the number of tanks the marines can reasonably protect, and the mutas can easily snipe undefended or lightly defended tanks. Also, mutas can harass to force the marines to leave the tanks, opening up the tanks for an easy snipe.
The fact that mutas are on the field will also make it difficult for the terran to push out, enabling the zerg to expand, while keeping the terran confined to at most two bases. If the muta baneling isn't enough to win you the game outright, then get MORE muta baneling off 5 bases haha.

Marine+Tank and Stalker+Colossus are the strongest strategies against Zerg. Zerg have no siege range unit at tier 2.5. There literally is no counter.
The *best* strategy is to do what you did. Muta/Ling/Bling. Pray upon any mistakes your opponent makes, like unsiegeing all of his tanks at the same time. It should be your 2 bases vs his 1 base, and the battle will probably be tipped in his favor due to tanks.
If you manage to beat his first push, you should win. Don't attack afterward with your banged up army. Don't even bother trying to stop him from grabbing his natural. Expand and grab a third base and saturate it as quickly as possible. Now, never let him grab a 3rd base by using your mutalisk to harass constantly. He will eventually come out again with an army, but you should be economically ahead and win again.
Good luck.

It depends on a lot of factors. If you catch a ball of marine tank unsieged and clumped up, you can win easily. If you fight through a choke against sieged tanks into spread marines, where your mutas fight the marines directly, you'll lose. Baneling speed is also very important. If you can get baneling speed before you have to engage, you have a much better chance of winning the fight. Secondary to baneling speed is creep spread. If you can engage on creep, you'll be much better off. However, you have a much lower chance of catching the tanks unsieged if you engage on creep, as the creep is closer to your base, and the terran will more likely be sieged the closer they get to your base.

You have to attack before he gets at your doorstep with sieged tanks. Otherwise it's basically over unless he does something stupid. Zergling baneling muta is pretty much the only way to stop this - I feel that roaches suck against siege tanks. Also, if you can, overlord dropping banelings over the lings can be extremely effective since they can't be 1 shot my the tanks anymore.
|
At tier 2 I would go some mixture of roach/bling/sling for the most part, depending on his composition. Let your roaches tank for your banelings. Focus down his tank numbers, i.e. don't let them get to critical mass. You CAN try to go muta to whittle down any exposed tanks, but it's quite APM intensive. Oh, and spread your creep! It will make it infinitely easier if you're engaging on creep.
I'm going to have to disagree with Iedarsi on going baneling/muta.. You will just lose. No overkill like in SC1 with siege tanks + 1shot banelings = TONS of dead banelings before they can even touch the tanks or marines. Tank/marine is designed to counter strats like those.

Harass with your mutalisks and hang the lings in front of his base (at a safe distance). Muta harass is really annoying for me as terran. Remember tanks are immobile, you can wait for him to siege then retreat, do this repeatedly. On bigger maps its easier but close pos is really hard to stop tank rine. P.S. i hate Xelnaga caverns

take out his base and ruin his economy. so you can keep on producing, and just out mass him
|
When you deal with marine/tank I feel the best route to fight off terran is with baneling drops for the marines and zergling drops on the tanks... or just baneling drop the marines and run in zerglings to wipe out the tanks. I usually open up with infestors against terran so using infested terran as meat shields for your zerglings makes it pretty easy. With this strat I don't have much trouble with terran unless its Steppes of War and he got turrets and bunkers all over the center while moving in his tanks. Or still you can use your mutas instead of infestors its a matter of preferance.
|
against marines/tanks, you just get a ton of banelings and mass up the mutas to pick off tanks
|
if hes just defensive with his tanks/marine, then just expand and macro. But when he comes to attack you. Use all your units including queens and maybe some drones as meat shields and take out those tanks man. And once he moves out you really should be rallying mutas to his base :p
|
Creep spread and overlord placement are essential. You need to know when he moves, and you ABSOLUTELY MUST engage when his tanks are unsieged.
If you have the econ to pump out 2x the army size as him, you can overwhelm him with roaches, but if your economies are anywhere near even then you need ling/bling/muta/infestor, and you need the tanks to be unsieged for the ling/bling/infestor to do their thing.
|
Ling bling muta works very nicely. Try to pick off any units in the back of the army if you can. Also, use overlords or mutas to scout the back of the army and as soon as any tanks unsiege, charge right in. If the tanks are sieged, he will probably try to tease you and get you to engage in the range of his tanks. If you don't fall for it, he will have to move the tanks up. The second he begins to unsiege, charge in with ling bling, and mutas killing medivacs, and the unguarded tanks.
