I just played a protoss today which literally rushed a 4gate and i defended it and he moved immediately into an archon/zealot army to defend my hydra/ling push. I'm really confused about this because i've never had to counter archons and such before simply because they are so gas costly and usually protoss players prefer storm over archons. I found that getting ultras was a bad idea (obs im an idiot for thinking it was all that good but i mean all zerg units are biological so i thought tanks are best option?) i can't go broodies because he's got blinking stalkers backing him up and they are so expensive and small-numbered. my only idea is straight up mass roach/hydra and let the roachs take the heat while hydras eat everything. on the down note, he also has charge zealots so i usually get surrounded by a mass of zealots. note: this protoss was running on two bases and i was running on 3 bases (1 gold). i could not out army him. any suggestions? i did upgrade 1/1 range/armor and got the ultra armor upgrade. they got demolished by archons/zealots (my bad for getting ultras vs zealots?)

really? i was thinking maybe just heavier roach line than hydras but keep hydras, and get a few infestors to fungle the archons and long range them with hydras and if the protoss decides to charge me with zealots i kill the zealots with roaches. tips appreciated. this was a mid diamond level game if anyone is wondering

Roaches and Infestors both are very good against this. Since they're all melee, you can fungal them to nullify plenty of them. Roaches are good against either unit.

roaches rip it apart. whenever you see mass zealot/templar/archon, just start massing the shit out of roaches, and get all the upgrades. burrowed roaches will be able to soak up a lot of storms or anything that the combination can throw at them.
and roaches will be even better against it after the buff.
don't bother with your crazy micro strategy that may or may not work. get roaches, and all will be well in the world.

yes roaches and hydra works vs this type of composition. Just focus fire archons with your hydra.

Muta's beat Zeal/Archon. Mutas can micro against archons and snipe them off quite well. It requires micro, but it is very viable. It also delays his push due to your mobility and harassment. Also, get burrowed roaches with tunneling claws, you can burrow micro vs zeal/archon and win with a t2 vs a greedy protoss that skimped on detection.
