I'm a gold player still trying to work out various tweaks to my game play. I couldn't find a thread on this so I thought I'd throw one up.

What is the best way to rally your reinforcements as you move up the battlefield?

Currently I use a system where i put the production buildings im using (playing terran) to follow units i currently have out in the field. If i set up a queue of follows then even if troops die the reinforcements will move up to follow the next unit in line.

The problems im having with this are :
- if i move into an enemy base through a back door, my reinforcements will run into the front door trying to follow my units in
- if my 4 units on follow die, my reinforcements sit at my base.

I was just watching a video where the commentator mentioned its best to rally your reinforcements to just outside the enemy base. Is this a more efficient system?

It's actually up to you. Rally them to somewhere you want them to be. Just keep in mind they're all on move, and not attack move, so if they walk too far and the opponent catches them en route, they're taking hits and not fighting back.

Sometimes I'll rally right outside my ramp, sometimes when I push far enough, I'll rally to a watchtower. It changes, depending on what my situation is.

Typically I rally to just behind where I think the fight will be taking place (or is taking place)

That way I can bring them the rest of the way quite quickly and easily

warp gates are the main reason why i play toss :D
but most terran players i know rally into their own base.
i have yet to see a zerg player rally to a unit.

you can actually move them in to your controlgroup when they are still eggs. imho the best way to do it. just move them into you controlgroup instantly after producing. (ctrl + left click the eggs)

depends where the battle is...as terran if im already in his main ill just rally to his main but if its somewhere in the middle of the map ill rally right outside my base as the battle is probably over by the time they'd even get there. one advantage of this is it prevents any type of 2 pronged attack where he'll try to inflict some damage on your main while your main army are too far.

It's all situational....
If you are moving your army out, rally on a high HP unit of yours (siege tank for instance).
If you are in his base hitting the back with units in the front, rally right behind the back entrance, so your units don't just move in without a-moving.
If you want an army to defend while your army is hitting, just simply rally in your base.

Rally where you feel comfortable ;D
This sentence no verb.

idk about other zerg but as for me i really dont rally much at all... once eggs are selected and morphing i put them in a control group, depending on what i made. they instantly move to wherever my forces are,

If your going for an early push, Rally to outside his base. I tend to Rally onto a unit, and check the rally point when I'm in macro mode while pushing. I only set the rally point to outside his base or not on a unit when i'm containing. It's a small flaw, but the 3-6-9 units (from a 3 rax for example) units that aren't with your army when you push or have an encounter could be the difference between winning a losing.

as Chastise said, It's all situational.
