Hi so I'm having a particularly hard time defending against this opener, and by hard time I mean I always lose. Typically I either go 14 pool into 15 hatch or straight out 13 hatch depending on the map and I've survived the longest when using lings into hydras. I kinda wanna stick to my quick expand style of play but if you guys have better suggestions/unit compositions I'll gladly take your advice.

I'm one of the top ranked golds btw, if that matters.

imo lings & banelings (burrowed even) work very well
if you can get some banelings burrowed you can easely take out his zealots & sentrys & let the lings pick off the rest, if he even decides to keep attacking

you can +1 attack your lings & bling so their extra effective, their still good later in the game (burrowed especially) and then you can transition to hydra/infestor or mutas todo some herass,
its pretty much open to possibilitys after you defended the first push

a benifit imo is you can get 3 bases up easy when going lings & you can get allot of drones wich help you in the mid/late game and you can pump lings sooo easely if you see him comming

I'm top Silver so take anything I say with a grain of salt....

But I like delaying my second hatch until I can get 4 roachs which I put on my ramp. once I get lair I move an ovie to my second choke, get him to through down some creep add a couple of spine crawlers, and move my roachs up there.

Roachs murder zealots so you only need a few of them, and once you have repulsed his attack he is pretty much screwed.

This works very well against 4 gate toss... atleast for me

1470 gold here. I've been trying to avoid roaches because I love speedlings so much but after having some trouble with early toss Zealot aggression I dabbled with Roaches and I have to say, it helps greatly. Banelings are good too but I'd say Roaches are safer as it's easy to go overboard and end up with no units yourself when you mess with Banelings.

If it's a small number of zealots. Like 3-6, you can do pretty good with 12 speedlings if you pick the fights and are careful with positioning. But any more than that and you're going to want roaches to keep you alive.

Roaches are just so tanky so having a couple around with speedlings to help with dps does wonders. Have one or two spines and queens to help attack and transfuse. I like to get burrow so I can regen the roaches quickly at home between opponent's early aggression while powering drones. Once you get two saturated bases, you can go straight into muta or hydra and go on the offensive. Although if you've been spamming roaches, it'd be most efficient to get the speed/attack/carapace upgrades and add some hydras to attack.
