There's been some confusion about certain aspects of the Teamliquid Starleague, and this page is here to help clear up those issues. Not only will the most commonly asked questions be answered here, but I will be adding questions as they get asked.
Feel free to post your own questions here, and the staff will do their best to answer the questions as soon as possible.
Questions
What is the TSL? The TSL is the biggest foreign tournament outside of Korea. Broadcast live with English commentators, and over 10000$ prize money, the TSL allows everyone from the biggest names in the foreign scene, to the new and unknown player to enter and have a shot at winning the prize.
I want to create a new account, what do I do? To register a new account, go to the ICCup website and click on the register button.
I did what the instructions said but I'm still having registration problems, what do I do?? If you are still having trouble registering, PM Plexa and he will help you.
Do I have to add the TSL tag to the start of my username? No, you do not have to add the TSL tag, but it is highly recommended.
May I reset my current account to play with? No. Your account must be created after the launch date of the TSL.
May I create multiple accounts? No! Creating multiple accounts will result in disqualification, as well as the locking of all accounts.
Do I have to use the username I use on Teamliquid.net? If you have one, yes. You have to use your standard nickname on the internet, the nickname that most people will know you as. If you are unsure of which nickname to use, you can message Manifesto7 or post on this thread, and we will let you know.
If you believe that using your common nickname will put you at a disadvantage, message Manifesto7 and he will provide you with a new nickname.
Failure to follow these rules will result in a disqualification.
My name is too long for registration, what should I do? In cases such as these, you can abbreviate your name as long as your identity remains clear. If you are unsure about the abbreviation, message Manifesto7 or post on this thread, and we will confirm whether you can use the abbreviation.
I have made a new account, what do I do now? Once you've create a new account, the first step is to go over to the Teamliquid Starleague group and click on the join button.
Once you've requested a join, you just have to wait until you get accepted. This should take an hour or so, but can take longer. Feel free to play after you've requested to join the tourney - you do not have to wait to be accepted.
You MUST send a team join request immediately upon registering.
I have clicked on the join group button, but I'm not being accepted! What do I do? As long as you sent your team join request within 24 hours of your first game played, you are fine. Barring any transfer/old account problems, you will be accepted within the day. Be patient, and start playing! Remember, ICCup rewards those who are dedicated.
Can I only play against other players that are part of the league? No, you can play against any player you wish to. Once you have joined the group you can continue playing in the ladder as you usually would.
Can I only play on the tournament maps? No, you can play on any of ICCup's official maps. At least one of the tournament's maps will be made "Map of the Week" every week, so playing on these maps will be more rewardig. But you might want to play more games on Blue Storm, Troy, and Zodiac, because those are the maps for the qualifier tournament when the ladder is over!
What is "Map of the Week"? Map of the week is a map that is being promoted by ICCup. Playing on this map will get you extra points towards the ladder
Must I play with the ICCup launcher and Anti-hack? Yes. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
I am a new player, and do not think I will be able to qualify for this tournament, should I still register? Yes! This tournament is all about you guys, the community. Feel free to join in and play along. It's fun to play a ladder when everyone is playing, and you could potentially play some good games with some top international players. And who knows, perhaps you could grab a spot in the top 48!
I have a problem with ICCup, and cannot register or play games, what should I do? Unfortunately we do not handle the registering of accounts, or the ladder itself. Any of these problems should be posted on the ICCup official forum, or a pm should be sent to Plexa.
Where does all the money come from? From the big money tree in Pachi's garden. Seriously. On a non-serious note though, we are not at liberty to discuss this right now, but we can assure you that the money will definitely be paid out in full at the conclusion of the tournament.
I thought there was going to be a livestream, but I cannot find it. Where is it? The live stream will only be created once the actually TSL starts, and there will be no live stream for the qualification rounds.
Are you sure that you will be able to handle all the viewers from a livestream? Yes. TL:A has been a good test run, and we are sure that we will be able to handle all the viewers from a live stream.
Won't the players be able to listen to the stream while they are playing? There will be a reasonable delay on the livestream to ensure that players cannot use the stream to see or hear what their opponent is doing.
Who will the commentators be? The commentators have not yet been confirmed, but we can assure you that we will have only the best commentators for the tournament.
Will there be multiple TSL seasons? That's the plan, provided we get a sponsor for it.
Can I share my replays? You are allowed to share your replays from the ladder stage, but not the replays from the qualifiers or the actual TSL. Doing so will result in a disqualification, as well as a ban from all future TSLs.
Can I play in other tournaments on ICCUP? This is regarding playing tournaments on ICCUP from your TSL account and gaining points for placement finishes. This is prohibited. Do not play tournaments with your TSL account. The points gained will be deducted and you may even be penalized if you continue to play in them.
I registered but the website shows my flag incorrectly what can I do? You need to post in the change flag thread on the contact the webmasters forum of ICCup. Post a polite request to change your flag there. The thread can be found here.
Do I have to save replays? If you are playing in the TSL, you must have the auto-save replay option of the ICCUP launcher turned on. We reserve the right to request replays from any player at the end of the tournament for abuse / hack reasons.
How will the players ranked #17-48 be matched up? The players #17-48 will be seeded and matched based on seed. Thus, #17 would play #48, #16 would play #47, etc.
More questions will be added as they get asked, so feel free to make yourself heard.
Are there plans, for the future when there is money, to have a Finals similar to the OSL? That being, a place where people can go live and watch the two gamers?
Edit: Not sure how to word this or if it would count as a FAQ: Can you describe more simply how the tournament is going to work? The qualification process etc.
ScarFace, at the moment there are no plans to have a physcal location for the tournament, but who knows...
As for how the tournament will work:
Ladder- The tournament starts with the ladder phase, which is the first step in the qualification process. This is an open ladder, and anyone can join. Players 17-48 from the ladder go through to the next qualification phase, the first qualifying round, while players 1-16 go through to the final qualifying stage.
Qualifiying round 1- In the first qualifying round players 17-48 from the ladder get paired up and play a Bo3. The winner goes through to the second qualifying round.
Qualifying round 2- In the second qualifying round players 1-16 and the 16 qualifiers from round 1 get thrown into 8 groups, where they play a double elimination style qualifier. Anyone that gets two wins goes through, and anyone that loses twice falls out.
The 16 players that go through from this stage goes into the final TSL.
Edit: Thought of a few more questions! Is there going to be a Powerrank for the TSL players [evaluating their skills as they go along from the qualifies, season to season etc], and a uh. I'm not sure the name actually. For players from Korea we have a system that says their winning ratio per matchup, the most recent games etc- will that be implemented for people that make it to the TSL proper? Basically: What are your plans for expanding the TSL and the players into the community [skin matches anyone?]

Scarface, I think many of these questions are good ones, which will definitely be talked about with the staff members. At the moment we are still more focussed on getting everything ready for the TSL, so we haven't looked any further than the TSL itself.\
What I can say is that we will have as many statistics about the players for the actual TSL as we can get, and we've also got a few other features planned which I cannot disclose just yet!
Are you allowed to release replays of games played on iccup during the regular parts of the season? I assume so, as in, that's not what you mean by no releasing of replays.
It's answered in the main article now, but yes, you ae allowed to distribute the replays of games played on ICCup during the ladder stage of the TSL. You are not to distribute any replays from the first qualifications round upwards.

Um sorry but I made an account named "Sebastian" because I hadn't read the rules. I wrote "itchreliever @ TL" in the name section, is this enough? or what should I do?

Thinking about a power rank at this stage is rather premature as it will simply be the top 10 regurgitated again and again. Simply put, the TSL 'community' is not developed enough for this yet. However, rest assured we will be giving premiem coverage to this league and that means all the hype you can swallow. This also means that development from tourny to tourny won't go unnoticed and unreported

We are exploring possibilities of including TSL in TLPD or another database for statistical purposes. And once sufficient games per player are accumulated then we can look at including statistics because at the moment no one has any official record!
Basically: What are your plans for expanding the TSL and the players into the community
At the moment we already run TeamLiquid Attack (analogous to MBC's bnet attack), the first season has just finished. We will probably look at inviting players from TSL once TSL is over for this event. With regard to SKINS matches, we have "Liquibition" which is a Bo7 between two players. If there is enough drama between certain players we will definitely look at holding events to settle it.
I feel a little noob asking this, but how are stats updated? I played a game maybe 25 mins ago, and my stats are still the same, on the rankings page and by doing "/stats". I'm on the Abyss server, played a game on Blue Storm. Did I do something wrong?

Make sure you created the game properly, all 1v1 games need to be made in One vs One mode on ICCUP maps in order to be counted.
Shasta, there will be no official release of Ladder replays, although players are free to release these replays on their own. There will be no release of any replays of the qualifiers or the TSL itself. Releasing of any of these replays by the player will be punished by disqualification and a ban from all future TSLs.
Tropics, you must create a new account when starting on ICCup, and if you have a TL username you should use your TL username as your nickname. If you have already created a new username and started playing with it you must message Manifesto7, and he will confirm whether you can use that username.
Very little has been decided about the second season. As mentioned in the interview, we only started talking about an interview 20 days ago, and since then it's been a mad dash to get everything ready in time for the first season.
I would assume that a new account will need to be registered again specifically for the TSL.
Yeah, it's way too early to even think about doing a second season. We haven't even successfully pulled off a first one. Not to mention we'd need to find a sponsor for the second season.
Been searching and searching, but I just can't find anywhere as to how to actually play games. Do I just register, and start off with my newly made b.net account and create regular games, and hope that people join them or what? Gateway? *shrug* - I have really no clue about this, and surely I dont belong in the top or anything, but I'd like to try it out anyway.

For iCCup, you register on the website, download the launcher and maps, and use the launcher and anti-hack. Connect to the "Abyss" server on your server list using the user/pass you registered with.
Then you can join games in "One on One" mode to play 1v1, or create games in that mode on official iCCup maps. Just make sure you are on the right server.
Please add this to the FAQ because a lot of TSL players are posting about this issue in the wrong places on our forum:
I registered but the website shows my flag incorrectly what can I do?
You need to post in the change flag thread on the contact the webmasters forum, it is under the iccup forum not the starcraft forum and post a POLITE request to change your flag. it can be found here http://www.iccup.com/iccthread/23345/

at the end of the season, say a player has 50-3-0 in antilauncher, how will you re-calculate points cuz you won't know if it was loss or win that was with AH not on
Just one question, it doesn't really concern me but if the site is slow to update the ranking on the team, how will you be sure you got the good top 48 when you stop the stage on April 22nd?
I mean it's not just me that has had problems with the rank refreshing and such. And I bet that people from ranks 40-60 will be playing their asses off to try and squeeze in a last minute win.

i guess they'll go through and make sure there's no games after the qualifications have ended.
my question: what about well known hackers like dino/so.o (hungtran)/kyopo etc, i know you said nobody will be banned if they are using the ah but do we really know it works 100%? i mean, in dino's case at least, he almost takes pride in the fact that he still plays oblivion, so you never know ;o

Wonder this too. He straight up admits he still hacks and its all just a funny joke to him and his friends he plays with
This is more iccup question than tsl, but where can I find info about rating system, motw etc.? Didn't find it in rules, news or forum and info/help link is the same as league.
I just played a game and it doesn't appear on ICCup. What did I do wrong? (I had the problem, so I'll answer myself)
- Did you have the launcher started? - Did you have the correct ICCup ladder maps installed and played your game on one of them? - Did you play your game in 'one on one' mode? - All of the above has to be true for the other player too.
Also ICCup may not immediatly show your results on the web page. It may take a few minutes. Be patient.
In regards to known hackers, I can assure you that we've got more than just the AH system to keep them out. Furthermore, everyone that qualifies for he final 48 will be double and tripple checked, so that we do not have any hackers in the qualifiers.
As to usernames, I doubt that the username he chose is his real one, and it is bad mannered, so I agree, we should do something about it.
On April 02 2008 10:18 Hot_Bid wrote: Yes, you can reset as many times as you want, you just can't transfer.
Please note you can only reset once a week maximum so do not reset lightly when you only have 3 weeks to qualify, admins will not reset you extra times just because you want to start over again. And since transferring your stats to a side account resets the stats on that account you cannot transfer if you've reset within a week as well.
Yes, Top 16 get seeded into Qualifiers Round 2, and the groups will be seeded according to ladder rank. Thus, #1 should theoretically have the easiest qualifier group into the TSL.
Forgive me for my ignorance, since I am (comparatively) new to the BW scene - I started to watch between TSL and TSL2. However, I watched many of the vods that exist on youtube, and have a question about the casters. I do recognize Artosis, Day9, Chill and apparently Vaul (<3) won a competition over Psyonic_reaver to cast a few games aswell, but there is one voice I can't really figure out, and I wonder if anyone could enlighten me about it?
I do enjoy TSL so much and I look forward to TSL4!
