Personally I think the whole site can use a renovation in the looks department. The weird blueish site color doesn't really look that great and new people may be discouraged from joining the site. Most forums nowadays have a more comprehensive forum style that has icon pictures, better profile settings and bigger signature space. I think if TL moved towards this direction it would be better for the site in terms of netting more views each month. The horses IMO also could use a renovation, like a new picture with a different font for the words.

I strongly disagree.
First of all, the color. To me it seems very neutral, but still very specific and the coloring makes it very easy to recognize the site.
As for the layout, I really think it's one of the best out there. Yes, it's very unlike the usual forums on the internet, but that does by no means make it bad. It is so manageable while still containing so much information. Old, but good - just like Brood War.

If we change the horse, than thats going to give us leisure for a lot of other things, like the layout of the forums. Please don't change anything, keeping the forums as unique and as original as possible since the first day it came out will may look as usual, but thats what we want. We want TeamLiquid to be a forum that doesn't change their behavior, because it's one of the best out there.

Never ever change them. If anything, alternate between different pictures... all including the horses.
some of the T-shirt-suggestions we had when making a poll for the new T-shirt design could be used as main site pictures - but the horse as motive has to stay.

So basically, don't ever change.

I'm sure the poll results would've been completely different if there was a sample with a different banner like 'hey guys here is another idea how we can make the banner look modern and up to date, so do you think (and basically list the current options)' Now people dont have a base to compare and autovote for what they are used to.

interesting poll...I think the horse banner definitely hasn't aged well, it looks really dated.

Having been here for almost 3 years I'm used to it, but it definitely looks like it was done during middle school art class, and the "random missing sections of the first letter of a word" font seems kind of weird when you stop and think about it.

I think the banner should be updated. The magic horse motif is unique, so keep that...just make it more sexy & modern.

edit: also, what happened to the bottom right corner of the banner? Looks like someone tore the corner off haphazardly

I've been lurking here since sc2 beta came out and "the horses" have always been one of the most ridiculous(ly) ((bad)) things on the site.

I mean yes listening to silver and bronze players QQ about whats overpowered is one thing but seriously... horses? come on. This is a fairly hardcore gaming site and your home page looks like a bad attempt to lure in My Little Pony entusiasts.

Change it.

I don't mind either way, but looking at the horses always reminds me of the scene in Fellowship of the Ring where Gandalf magics up the river into horses. I thought it was appropriate since they were Liquid Horses.

I'm totally new to this site, and I just assumed you all had a good poetic or philosophical reason for a "team" of horses "flowing" through a snowstorm so that's fine. The content and functionality is really what matters and the site admins can make it look however they want for any or no reason at all.

But I do have an idea after seeing the original (and assuming the vote is to keep or update it) : maybe crop it a little less so you can see all their heads and feet (and maybe even use the mountains somewhere). That way it will look more like the original artwork ... especially if you flip it horizontally.

The idea of it being camouflaged to NOT look like a "gamer' site is also kinda clever. Was that intentional?
