3) Flash's ace match loses were not really important and I don't understand people saying that "it's only retroactively" not important because STX started sucking also. KT could have lost 1st place, but the point is they were locked for 1st or 2nd, not stuck in 5th or 6th (or 7th) and therefore they had a ton of slack no matter how STX did. They weren't stuck brawling for a good spot in the playoffs.

KT sealed the deal for first with only 2 wins this round and even though Flash didn't know STX would suck in his 1st or 2nd ace, the next couple of ace's were obviously not as bad because he was aware that STX was biting the dust just as hard as KT was. And after KT beat STX, the deal was again, pretty much sealed.

In my honest opinion Flash probably started off round 5 celebrating his good fortune, took a break and lost some focus. Not a huge surprise when your team is locked for 1st or 2nd and you just beat your biggest rival 3-0 in a hyped up revenge match. You can afford to take the break and honestly, it's probably good for him. Obviously he just didn't know how long his lack of focus would last, hence his surprised face at recent ace matches. He'll be back in time for the PL finals and he won't lose to anyone short of Bisu in S Class mode (SKT v KTF curse)

Because Flash does not deserve a unique casing for losing 5 ace matches in a row, something that Jaedong, Fantasy, Effort, Baby, Stats, free, Sea, great or Bisu would be called on. Taking it easy or not, he -did- lose 5 matches by himself this month, and that's not reflected in the PR.

The way I see it, this PR is pretty much a reflection of how well Flash has been playing the last 2 seasons. Just like his ELO, even with those chain losses he is still #1 because he reached astronomical heights in previous months. He played just well enough to retain #1(if he had gone 0-14 I don't think #1 would be justifiable) and no longer head and shoulders above everyone else so this month was basically his get out of jail free card.

why does anyone get a get out of jail free card? this is not monopoly

In the OSL seeding tournament, Jaedong was not the winner, and instead lost out to great in a rather one sided ZvZ
Rather one-sided? Really, Plexa? I swear, sometimes you just make things up out of whole cloth and try to pull them over everyone's eyes.

The most important part of that game was not aired, but the part we could see had gotten rather further than most ZvZs do. Yes, Jaedong lost, but I don't see the basis for your calling the game one-sided.

I wonder if Savior's moral demise has caused a mass migration of his hardcore fans to JD.

JD's always had some pretty delusional fans, but it's taken to new levels now.

I would have been cool with Flash at #2 as Jaedong has had a really good month, but it seems like TL is being really fickle here. Flash has straight dominated everyone for months and now that he's had one bad one and Jaedong who just lost 0-3 to him has had a good one, everyone is ready to ship him off to #2. Seems too reactionary to me.

Flash fans seem to be acting (as this quote shows above) that #2=shit. If you replaced the numbers you could think people were suggesting that Flash be dropped down to number 10 or something. Keeping Flash at #2 despite going 50-50 would still be giving him credit for dominating (as riptide did for Jaedong last October).

Let me just point out some players whose Peak on the pr was #2 to demonstrate this-Best, Fantasy, Calm, Iris, Midas, and Mind. GGplay, Kal & Free have only ever gotten third. I just named MSL/OSL finalists/winners (or in the case of Free and Midas losing in semifinals to the winner).

Granted, saying someone can be #2 despite having shit results (50% is a shit result btw, even Jangbi had a better win percentage in PL during June) because of how good they were before can just be extended to them being number 1, and is a valid argument. But the post I'm quoting just seems to indicate that people think #2 on the pr would be just completely disrespectful to Flash, as opposed to #2 still being really really good.

EDIT: BTW I recognize that he said he would be OK with Flash at #2, I was mostly responding to the idea that dropping Flash down to #2is fickle

How is it delusional to expect Flash at #2? Even if you're a hardcore Flash fan, you can't argue that it isn't at least close enough to make it debatable.

I think Plexa could've gotten away with Flash being at number one, but he chose the wrong line of reasoning. Flash did not feel as untouchable this month as Jaedong. He instead needed to emphasize the moment and leniency accrued since October.
Also, trying to explain each game by itself and showing how Flash's games were deserving and Jaedong's games weren't is a huge gaffe. The errors in logic, misinformation, and double standards really made it seem unfair.

This is a great post and it's very accurate. I said myself in the last pr that FlaSh deserves the number one spot just based on how good he has been, but the reasoning for FlaSh is so ridiculous and skewed that its set everyone off. It feels like Plexa is trying to hide the enormous chink in FlaSh's play with crazy double standards and blind rationalizations instead of just acknowledging it and moving on.

+ Show Spoiler [Effort] +
Moving on, Efforts play has looked bad and been bad and he shouldn't be fourth. The kid is far to streaky to be given the benefit of the doubt. Looking like July does not mean he is July or in the future will play good like July, I'd like to see him off the rank (this does not include the recent MSL which makes me super mad because it anecdotally contradicts my point).

+ Show Spoiler [Baby] +
Baby should have been dropped a bit, he had a very uninspiring month and while he has enough history to stay on the rank I don't think he has enough to be high even when he doesn't bring the goods.

+ Show Spoiler [Protoss] +
I'd like to see Free above Stats just because they had comparable months and free has legacy and I'd like to see them both a spot higher (with the drop of Effort).
Thanks for giving Bisu the nod, hes looked good and I like seeing him back on the pr

I think that there's fair arguments for having either Flash or JD at the number 1 spot. If Plexa is writing the PR not soley based on recent results, then it's entirely fair to give Flash the #1 spot.

Also glad to see Bisu making it back onto here.

Flash fanboy much Plexia?

How the hell can a player that recently loses HALF HIS FRIGGIN GAMES be the strongest player at the moment? Get over it and put him #2. Other then that it is fun to se Bisu back ofcourse, even if he still has alot to prove.

zergling du fromage. Any player can beat any other player with 3 early agression / "cheese" builds.

I'm kind of annoyed with this ranking because the criteria is not consistent enough with the past editions of power rank. In the past PR has been based very much on recent results, even the ones Plexa has written. It's kind of jarring to see it abruptly change to "overall power rank over unlimited period".

Power rank is not a rank of the last month.

Power rank is a rank of player power that happens to be re-released every month. You don't blindly disregard results from prior months, and it really comes down to who you would put your money on in a life or death game or BoX match.

That said, I'm a big Flash fan and I'm still somewhat surprised to see him get #1. It's definitely borderline at best.

Who would you put your money on over Flash in a bo1, bo3, or bo5 right now? Maybe Jaedong (but honestly I'd still go Flash). So that's a possible reason.

That said, I definitely think it's debatable. I was surprised to see Flash #1.

Hi, you say Flash sucks. I say he is arguably #1 in all of Starcraft right now.

So if Flash is voted as #1 player in the world right now, the player you would bet your life on winning then why is it inconceivable that he is #1?

Power Rank tells you who is strongest. That's it's purpose. Always has been, always will be. If you go back and look at all the controversial choices made since the beginning of when Power Rank was founded, they were always made when the person writing the Power Rank decided they would sooner bet their life on that player than somebody else (or alternatively, wouldn't bet their life on that player at all, and thus ranked them lower than somebody else might have).

Thus far, TLnet does not agree with you...
