Tournament Roundup - May 16-Jun 14 2011
June 15th, 2011 15:23 GMT
Results for May 16 – June 14, 2011
Due to some MLG scheduling conflict issues, this edition covers twice the time period of standard releases. This feature will be back on its normal biweekly schedule for next edition and onward.
Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.
Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. Foreign juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, our boys have more than proven that they can compete.
Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?
Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Total Prizemoney: ~$69,400+ USD (+ Prizes!)
Top Dog There's a ton of powerhouses outside of Korea, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past month.
Note: This isn't a simple prize-money or medals ranking. It is based upon a combination of overall player performance, quality of competition, significance of events won, money won, activity, and my most sincere attempt at unbiased subjectivity. It only considers performances in events which concluded within this period.
+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] +Due to the fact that this is a double-sized edition of the roundup during such a busy tournament season, there's a lot of players that have achieved a lot of success on varying stages. This edition, I will simply be listing many of these accomplished players, along with a single Top Dog. Don't fret, we'll be back to the standard format next edition!
Top Dog + Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/1771.jpg) Nerchio !! 1771. This number may not mean much to you, but I've recently realized that I've memorized it. I didn't try to memorize it, it just happened. 1771 is a TLPD ID number. I look at hundreds of these numbers every time I put the roundup together, but this one sticks out. In the past 4 roundups, this player has been honorably mentioned 3 times, and placed third once. He's always there, but never at the very top. This time, in his 5th consecutive appearance, he's jumped to the top. This edition, the always-appearing 1771 showed up on top of yet another large tournament against scary opposition in the Dailymotion Cup. MorroW, the exceptionally talented top Zerg, fell to him 4-0 in the final. Soon after, this player took down ThorZaIN, White-Ra, and a Terran version of MorroW, earning himself SHOUTcraft gold. If this wasn't enough, this player also smashed through two Zotac Cups, a Close Combat Cup, and placed 2nd in a Competo Cup all in this same period of time. If you still haven't checked him out, it's time you've learned the name of this edition's consistently beastly Top Dog: Nerchio! Total Prizewinnings: ~$4,125+ USD
Medal Podium
Note: Only players with multiple non-showmatch podium appearances are included.
Next Edition: Early July 2011!
Archive May 1-15, 2011 April 15-30, 2011 April 1-14, 2011 March 15-31, 2011 March 1-14, 2011 February 15-28, 2011
Stay tuned for the next edition sometime around the beginning and middle of every month!

Not a single top USA spot? Are you even trying ammurica ? Well not counting the US only events. [edit] And as always, thank you. Love reading these.

Nice nice! thanks for the Article!
|
Such a pity nerchio won't be at dreamhack. A couple of excellent euro-zerg missing. Thanks for the round-up, it must be a huge effort!
|
you guys forget the http://www.e-cups.org/Cup/56
foxconn experience SCII Cup with motherboards etc as prices
Delphi won final 3-2 vs Zaqwer (who beat deathangel beastyqt etc on his way)
|
Such a huge amount of tournaments! and nerchio truly deserves respect.
|
hahahahaaha Goody with 7 golds. What a killer.
|
In your paragraph about the Top Dog Nerchio you should change Morrow's race symbol to terran for the second meeting of theirs you mentioned (I think it is TB's cup you're referring to), as Morrow played TvZ in it.

I love these Mikilatov, you're a hero =)
This looks like it's missing the criminally under-reported Asus LAN (Asus spring?) at the end of May/start of June? Understandable though, the amount of information to actually make it to the English speaking community about it was ridiculously tiny TT
From what I know final placings were something like:
1st: Dimaga ~€1300 2nd: Happy ~€900 3rd: Bly ~€300 4th: Lowely 5-6: Kas/Strelok
|
The top dog this month made about the same as a GSL super tournament ro8 player (4 players make this much, 4 make much higher), or regular GSL ro4 (2 players make this much, 2 make much higher). Does not include flying/travel costs.
|
Not included due to prize amount cutoffs.

This looks like it's missing the criminally under-reported Asus LAN (Asus spring?) You'rewelcome. =D Also, I had wind of this event, but struggled valiantly to locate solid results. If someone could find me a legitimate source of accurate podiumresults/dates/prizemoneydistribution, I'll gladly add it. Got it!

Does not include flying/travel costs. That's true, but Nerchio also wasn't the top earner. Several players made >$5,000 this edition. GSL isn't every month, either. But yes, GSL's prize pool is HUGE.
|
Finally, thanks! Nerchio is well deserved Top Dog.
|
Can't believe there aren't many recurring NA tourneys :p
|
Wow, I never realized how pathetic MLG's prize pool was. For such a hyped tournament, the actual winnings are quite slim when compared to other surrounding tournies. Hopefully they get some more sponsors / MLG reallocates their prize money.
|
goody has 7 wins? good god he must make a comfortable living

Yes 1 person made the same amount as 2 people made in korea and 2 other people made alot more :O well for this super tournament its different actually, people in the round of 8 would have made about this much.
Honestly though if your in code s even if you get knocked out in the round of 32 your going to be making more in prize earnings then 99% of progamers out west, although 32 players is quite a small number in itself anyways.
Either way until NASL finals rolls around , the winner of GSL is always gonna be top dog, and considering its the super tournament this month and NASL shortly after, the winner of super tournament is still going to be the ultimate top dog
92k bro!, one of those 2 terrans is going to be a sick nerd baller lol. I dont even know who im cheering for, probably MMA XD

Yea the amount they get from open bracket fee's from players ( i think its like 70 dollars a player cant remember) covers the prize pool, but at the end of the year its a 50k prize pool :O
|
Congratulations for Nerchio! I hope he'll start attending LAN events soon.
Also, in the MLG Columbus section you should change Losira's race symbol to Zerg, now it's Terran ;]
|
Nerchio is a baller. Not only because he's the top dog, but because what he actually shows in game. I heard in his last interview that he's still not comfortable enough with his skill to go in lan, but I think he would do oh so well. By the way, I'm glad DH will have some new rising players like Empire. Happy. Too bad he's in a hard group :o
And I agree about the MLG prizepool, it's too low (I know about the end of the year championship which has a GSL prizepool). But 5k$ for winner (=3500€) is still not enough imo, especially compared to halo or cod prizepools, not sure they bring the same amount of viewers/sponsors. (I know the prizepool/player is the same between games, but even so, 20k for halo and 5k for sc2 makes me sad)

you acctually missed to mention MC in the Medal Podium Ranking ;-)
|
MC rakes in the cash at China. MC = Making Cash
|
13/27 Zergs, very different from korea ^^
Would like to see more europeans at MLG

Yeah, only non-koreans with 2 or more podium appearances are covered here. The only time Korean players are included is if they are participating in largely non-korean events such as MLG or Dreamhack or whatever, as this writeup is meant to showcase results in the 'foreigner' scene.

Mainly just due to the lack of big event presence, I'm pretty sure. I've been following him pretty closely since around the time I started doing the roundup. He's totally dominated some major online events lately though, so he'll be getting up in popularity soon.
Nerchio's been emerging more and more. Even Kas' popularity didn't really explode until his TSL run, which funnily enough, I don't think he's been posting nearly as solid results since then.
|
Cheers to Nerchio =)
Too bad He decided not to attend Dreamhack Summer. I mean, from his showing at the SHOUTcraft invitational, he played Zerg in a way that made it look unbeatable, overpowered almost.
|
damn, have never heard of most of these, great to keep track
|
Omg Team Empire is dominating! They have a total of 20(!!!) medals shared between 4 players.
|
Soooooooooooo many tournaments! Haha
Nerchio Seems to tear shit up lately. Hope he comes to next.mlg.

wow, all the showmatches with a canadian player resulted in a loss And poor drewbie, his tour isn't going so well lol
Thanks for the round up, some great stuff in here as usual!

Beating morrow in an online cup is not the same as beating him in a big lan event. Look at kas, he performs excellent in online cups but so far he hasn't done anything remarkable at any big event.
|
The finals for Starwars were live, just all the matches that led up to it were like months before.
But I am pretty sure the finals were live oO, and only happened last weekend. So i don't really get that note.

1.) At how many big lan events did he participate? 2.) 2nd place at Copenhagen Games is remarkable

haha oh wow. Protosser won the Finnish league.. I was actually called that during the first phase of the beta, just cuz it was the first thing that came to my mind while trying to be somewhat witty and wanting to play games asap :p

Yup, its kinda hard for new players to get noticed , even after winning streak like Nerchio's. But judging from his winnings hes not worried about that at all. Thats a lot of money. I like to watch newer players to perform agains top dogs, It shows that even after 1 year of game they aren't as unbeatable as one may think, probably because of the game itself being as it is, but still thats another story.
Its also nice to see race representation at top 20 as well, and see how the metagame affects every month.
Big Thanks for Mikilatov for writting this and all the people who helped him!

Yeah they've got some crazygood players, I didn't even noticed the 20 medals thing. It's like 'team underground', with the exception of Kas, who himself was actually pretty underground until TSL3. Kas, Nerchio, Beastyqt, Happy!! What a beastly lineup. As far as online events go, I'd venture to say it's one of the very top performing teams. Some of their lesser knowns aren't bad either.

Added the aussie ones, but for some reason the formatting is REALLY disliking the flag and I can't figure it out. Unfortuantely I don't have the ability to seek out all of these flags and races for lesser known players that don't have TLPD entries. Thanks!
Oh and in case you're wondering, I'm still planning for the inclusion of KOTH... Perhaps for next edition (I think a FXO KOTH lands within the next 2 weeks?) The prizemoney cutoff is going to be quite high, so it's mainly just for the FXO ones or any other that has a staggering prize pool. This is so because they're a lot of work to track and report results of.
They will likely be considered 'showmatches' so they won't count toward the medals count or anything, as equal opportunities aren't really given to each player due to the play order.

But 5k$ for winner (=3500€) is still not enough imo, especially compared to halo or cod prizepools, not sure they bring the same amount of viewers/sponsors. (I know the prizepool/player is the same between games, but even so, 20k for halo and 5k for sc2 makes me sad)
well the halo prize money is spilt up to 4 ppl so its pretty much the same

Of course it was Catz doing ^^.Just kiding... Goody effect in full motion.
Ps. I wonder how those amercians felt when Goody dominated their cups with his mech

Goody seems smart:
"Oh, i terrorised EU with my Mech for too long, people actually beat it consistently"...
Solution? Change playstyle.. lol, jk... The obvious answer is to switch the Server :D.

Seems to me that the SEA server is hosting more and more tournaments every round-up.
Would it also be possible to find someone that can help track other tournaments in non-anglophone servers, such as Taiwan/China? Is the LA server really dead as people say? I get the feeling that there might be more smaller tournaments but we don't know about them. (Obviously letting Mikilatov digging all that up by himself is just a heavy, heavy workload). Just a wishful thought.

Good work. One thing I don't get is why Nerchio is no1 when GoOdy has most wins..
Oh and "MC = Making Cash" xD
