At a time where TeamLiquid is growing and expanding, there is an empty place amongst us. He was a great writer, great moderator, BW historian, and a good friend. There is no one among us that knew more about the progaming scene than he, and few that brought his passion. His reports brought us the results from Korea, but his style brought the games alive in our minds.
Mensrea informed the staff last month that he will no longer be continuing with the website. Although I attempted to write something myself, I find that it was all inadequate. Therefore, I will let the words speak for themselves.
Dear Friends + Staff,
It is with a mixed sense of sadness and relief that I declare my "resignation" from my position here on TL.net. Although I am usually quite prone to being verbose in my explanation of things, I will make a merciful exception in this case and not go into detail regarding this decision. Suffice it to say that my reasons are my own.
I have taken immense joy and, yes, even pride in observing this site grow into one of the premier English language SC sites on the web. I now take my leave with the satisfaction of knowing that I played a part in the development of this sometimes-cool, sometimes-trying, but always-interesting community.
I wish everyone involved with the running of this site the very best. May you all find peace, fulfillment and happiness.

it would have been nice if we could get to know him better, he's probably one of the most eclectic people ive ever seen.

Id say I'm sad, but it would be in a selfish way. I won't have the luxury of waking up to the literary genius that is mensrea. By saying this saddens me, I look at it from the completely wrong perspective. He's more than paid his dues here, he's provided more than we could ask for, I should be happy for him that he now has the peace of mind to move on. Id like to extend my deepest thanks and gratitude, you have made Brood War more enjoyable for me. Good luck in any and everything you do, but something tells me you won't need luck. You have a good head on your shoulders.

For as long as I've been here, I've always looked up to you, mensrea. Whether it was your ability to entertain an entire community with your second to none game reports or the news that you brought us or even your wit. I enjoyed reading every post that you made, from the political debates to any other thread where you thought it was appropriate to contribute.
Some of the best threads in atmosphere were those about you. Your identity has left us all to wonder who you really are. One final request before you depart, mensrea. May you end the legacy and reveal to us your name, so that we may remember the legendary moderator not by handle, but by name, like we do our true friends?

Quite simply, he revolutionized battle reports and infused amazing personality into the games he summarized. I'd venture to say there isn't a single BW reporter anywhere that hasn't been influenced by his style, something that I can only describe as the HDTV/Imax of game reports. I may not have always agreed with him, but it cannot be denied that he was interesting and opinionated in many subjects, and eloquently so.
The fact that his goodbye thread reads like a eulogy should tell all.

That is a good guess Ejai. However, I don't think Mensrea would be that old. Maybe, we'll never know. But still, I got the impression he wasn't that old, just a lot more mature for his age.

it's weird, i wonder why he cant see himself staying with the tl.net staff and it's community.
it's not like it was his full time job to do everything for the site, he coulda stayed on as a mod like Cyric and not do anything, but his reasons were his own for leaving, gotta repect that.

wish we knew you better mensrea, but your contributions to this site were great and every post you made was quality. from eloquent liberal rants to flowery match descriptions, i always enjoyed reading what you wrote.
i'd really like to know more about your resignation, but personal reasons will be good enough. good luck in whatever you are pursuing.

mensrea has the best english ive ever seen. He makes no grammar mistakes, and always use unusual words  sometimes he expressed himself in a way that i had to go to dictionary.com to find out what his words ment good times.. I also found his reports funny, and got the feeling he's full of knowledge on other stuff than bw too like in a discussion about soccer he could list up a bunch of facts even i didnt know, allthough i follow news involving soccer alot. I find it hard to believe he's korean, but i think he lives in korea, but i guess we'll never know  GL mensrea! Come back from time to time and give us some brilliant reports from your experience in life, not about BW necessarily.

OMG this is sad, mensrea's reports on BW.com was what got me interested on BW progaming in the first place. You are truly the best game reporter i've ever have the pleasure to read.

So true... I used to visit this site and it's forums solely for Mensrea's posts/updates. His writing style is definitely one of the most enticing/lively/interesting I've ever seen... and don't take this as anything negative, but his 'arrogance' (for lack of a better term ><) really added flare to his posts on the forums..
It's a shame we won't be able to experience the literary genius that his work is anymore; hope he still drops by every now and then

I tried to get info on progaming world, seems very interesting stuff.Gosu players of 2000,2001,gosu foreigners and so on. Maybe he will make a .doc and share his knowledge with us. I thinck is a good way for him to leave the comunity. I read articles here from way back and it seems that there were more foreigners that made it to Korea. Its really hard to read a story in a random page by page rythm. GL HF

Well when you quitted your own bw community, i thought 2 things : The first thing is that i'm a little sad to not read anymore what you'd write with your good poetic words.
The second thing, I think you made the right decision because we all know that this tl.net is full of good things and has always been a place to debate with other ppl without flames but the fact is that we can't let this site take a little of our life.

I loved him for his reports, but hated his forum posts. His arrogance was not something I looked forward to at all. Even though he was not my favorite person here, he was still one of the greatest contributors to the site. For that, we all owe him (or her) great thanks. It is sad to see the best battle reporter on the site to leave, but, eventually, we must all move on.

I don't think he is young for a few reasons. (Yes I have determined it is a he by what many mods have said and what he himself said in a thread one time). He's too experienced to be that young. Oh well, we'll never know!
