TeamLiquid is proud to announce our first TL Open, a 512 player open registration Starcraft 2 tournament run entirely through our website. This will hopefully be the first of many TL Opens. Each one will alternate between the EU and US servers and have individual sponsors. The first tournament will be held on the Europe server, and anyone with an EU battle.net account can enter.
The Altitude TL Open #1 will be held on Saturday, Sep 18 1:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). Check-in will begin 30 minutes before the tournament starts.
Prize Pool Distribution 1st: $300 2st: $100 3rd: $50 4th: $50
You must have a teamliquid account to register in the tournament.
You must specify your EU Bnet account and code #.
Check-in starts 30 minutes before the event.
There will be a waitlist check-in 30 minutes before the event to fill no-shows.
TL will open registration earlier for interested pro-gamers, PM me to see if you qualify. As a general rule, if you are not prominently listed in the SC2 International TLPD, you will not qualify for early registration.
Check out which players have early registered here.
Format, Maps, and Rules
Bracket will be 512 man single elimination.
Format will be Bo1 until Ro16. Ro16 to semis will be Bo3, and Finals will be Bo5.
Players must report wins and upload replays between rounds.
Detailed Map Lists and Rules will be announced on September 12.
Coverage and Observer Rules
No observers allowed in games other than those designated by TL. No exceptions.
TL will officially cast both semifinals and the finals.
We may allow certain casters to cover earlier rounds.
Full details, including on how to apply to be a caster/observer, will be released on Sept. 12.
About Our Sponsor - Altitude
Altitude is a multiplayer 2-D aerial combat game known for its deep, addictive gameplay. Many of you may know Altitude already from the Altitude TL Invitational or the TL Thread about the game. Their creators are huge StarCraft 2 fans, especially of TLAF-Liquid`TheLittleOne, and love to help support our community. Altitude is already favorite among TL users, and if you haven't tried their game yet, go to altitudegame.com and check it out.
I really like this idea, I'm excited to see the tournament. Even though I'm pretty low on the ladder I may enter the next US one just for kicks. Can't hurt right?
This is really awesome, never thought TL would have open tournaments like this (aka. non-TSLs) but I'm sure it will be a awesome event considering how good TL generally is with tournament hosting.
Also alot of love for altitude, its a awesome game and they sponsored a earlier event aswell!
Sweet I wish it didnt say "We may allow certain casters to cover earlier rounds." cuz that means there is a slight possibility they will not allow the games to be cast. Looking forward to yet another great TL event !!
Really, do give Altitude a chance if you haven't played it yet. Just like SC, it's easy to learn but hard to master. Games are pretty short so it's easy to play for 20 mins, unlike SC. Nimbly Games follows Blizzard's lead by giving the game a lot of long-term attention, with an eye toward balance (there was a balance patch just this past week).
Most important of all, it's a very fun game and supporting Nimbly helps keep tournaments like this coming.

So it begins.
Nice of Nimbly Games to do this Altitude is a butload of fun to play.
Awesome, cant play since its EU, though I doubt I would have joined anyway, but cool to see. Hope to see some big names enter, and have some interesting games.

SC is nowhere close to easy to learn.
Sigh . . . first of all why would you bother disputing something in a feel-good post oriented around getting people to support a company that helps keep our community in tournaments? Second of all what I meant is that it's easy to learn how to play SC. Same way it's easy to learn how to play chess. You can pick up the rules of the game and what each "piece" does very simply. From there it is hard to master. Get the stick out of your ass.
[list][*]Bracket will be 512 man single elimination. [*]Format will be Bo1 until Ro16, Bo3 Ro16-Ro4, Bo5 Finals.
hate to be the grammar freak, but that took me awhile to get... I'm guessing: Format will be Bo1 until Ro16, Ro16-Ro4 will be a Bo3 and a Bo5 Finals at the end.??
looking forward to awsome games with some semi pros

I changed it, hopefully it will be more clear now.
Something tells me BigT isn't going to be allowed to cast. It's surprising he hasn't been banned from streaming on the site all together to be honest. Hopefully the hate for him from this site will dissipate with time.
I kinda feel bad for all the posters from Canada and the US saying how much they'll enjoy playing in the tournament when it's actually held on the EU servers this time around.

Well he s actually both French and Spanish. And he s played for both national teams too in BW. but yes he currently resides in France
On topic : i feel really stupid asking this but by IST you mean GMT?

IST = Irish Standard Time. Its coded to show times in your local timezone, whatever you selected on your profile.
Great opportunity to play top players for regular folks like myself. Good to see Altitude as a sponsor again, you can`t possibly go wrong with sponsoring anything for TL. Also seems like it will be a somewhat regular event? Too awesome.
Think im going to enter this just to see if I can get past the 1st round!!! lol Hopefully get some 1v1 practice in now, thats my main problem at the moment, not playing enough!!!
really love the fact its in europe the first time ! don´t think i will participate tho D: too much work to do. anyways hf gl to everyone participating ^^
I like the fact that it's on the European server ! I feel sorry for the American but we can all share the cake can't we ? Nothing is said about that in the OP but will it always be on the European server (which includes countries that are not in the EU...) ?
1 Question since the account i'm currently using is not mine and i didn't make the registration and so on buyed it later... how can i check for this: You must specify your EU Bnet account and code #. ? Is it some kind of extencion line the name is ceno. and is it suppose to have something like ceno.??? Sorry for the stupid question but i'm just not familiar with these things. Thanks in advance

Just click add friend in-game and it should pop up.

Come on now, this is a pretty pointless post. You might like or dislike certain casters, but you can just choose to watch another caster. ^^ It would have been a different thing if they asked for feedback for which casters which should be allowed.
PLEASE add at least one custom melee map to the map pool. You have the power to push the whole mapping community with this and make the tournament a lot more interesting!
The ICCup maps would be a good point to start looking fore one (:
Yay for more TL awesomeness! :D I'm very much looking forward to following it. Hopefully some names we haven't seen before will be emerging with these tourneys, that'd be awesome. GLHF to all who compete!

I agree 100% Would be really interesting to see how the old BW maps play out in SC2, when good players are playing. And besides, a little nostalgi never hurts
Back on topic, it is definitely a very good idea with TL invitationals, count me in!

Just to clarify, will this be played online or is the event being held at a physical location?...Reason being, I'm in South Africa (we play on the eu servers) and I'd really like to try and give this a go but I could only play if it's an online tournament for obvious reasons.
Anyways it's nice to see open events coming up, summin for the mere mortals to try.
I want to register but my name has ää`s (my name is räähkä, character code= 841) so it says Error: Your Battle.Net nickname contains invalid characters. Any way around this?

You will be able to change your country affiliation and race from the "My Tournaments" page in the near future. The tournament system is still very much a beta, so if you see something broken or have a feature suggestion, please post in Website Feedback!
Was there some sort of lag with the signup system? One of my team members signed up for this tournament 1-2 hours ago, when there was something like 100 spots open, and is not listed on the page. Was it simply because it took a while to process all of the applications or something like that?
Signups are immediate and he should have got confirmation if the registration was successful.
As of now, all 512 open spots are filled. Some players have signed up without realising this was an EU only tournament, if this is you, a cancel button will be available shortly. People on the waiting list will be moved up to the confirmed list.

check the registration page.It has the map list and rules list up there very clearly.
If you guys have never played Altitude, you should really check it out. It's pretty cheap (especially during steam sales), it's a ton of fun, and it makes these tournaments possible!

Its because protoss and zerg check the forums more often thus registered faster. Finnaly all that time posting terran is OP payed off.
Wow, so many guys from Estonia, even from Lithuania, and none from Latvia I'm surprised that estonians have reacted so quickly, since everyone complains that they're slow :D
I have been reading the rules through and can't find anything about it but just wanted to confirm: I play as Protoss vs Z/T but switch to Zerg vs P usually, since I don't like playing mirrors. Is this alright?

This is the annoncement page.
Thanks, that map info was not there when I signed up.
I wasn't aware you needed a EU battle.net account to join this tournament. I am signed up as Ultra.322. Please remove me to free the slot up for someone who can campete. sorry for the inconvenience.
You can cancel your registration yourself, go to http://www.teamliquid.net/tournaments/admin/ and click Altitude TL Open under "My Tournaments" then click "Cancel Registration".

that is totally awesome! looking forward to see this event tomorrow. I´m rooting for ReT and Hasu, but sadly demuslim and dimaga aren´t playing, right?
