He "looked into his eyes", and he was silenced, something that a magician could do. Just something to take into account. Also, Folca has a picture of a cat in his profile. Cats are small enough to say...hide behind a fireworks display. Anubis is an egyptian god, and Cats are worshipped in egypt. The "striking" could be clawing to the face.
