welcome to tl mafia, glad to see more new people around

word of warning, this is a non-newbie game - newbies CAN play here and such - but in newbie games you will have a coach to help guide you how to play and how mafia is played around here. In non-newbie games, the host will not permit a coach.

per her op:

If you want to play in this particular game, I would recommend you read up on the most recent newbies

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/mafia/508622-newbie-mafia-xxi
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/mafia/510385-presidential-election-mini-mafia

and also some basic guides/tips to you get a sense of how people around here play the game

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/mafia/274334-tl-mafia-central-library

if you need any clarification on rules, what is/isn't allowed, pm hts, she is an excellent (and responsive) host.

edit: wait.....

hmmm that was from presidential. if it's your first game....you know what? send hts a pm. it's her call, her game, but it can't hurt to ask for a coach. if too many people signed up complain she probably won't allow it though. but it's worth a shot. coaching is a great tool.

Mods: what happens if a tracker tracks either roleblocker if the roleblockers roleblock each other?

I'm pretty sure that's also grammatically correct English xD

Roleblocks in my game resolve first and simultaneously so the tracker will receive the result such that the roleblocker visited the other roleblocker and that result alone.

If a mafia roleblocker tried to also deliver kp, but was roleblocked (the kp was stopped), the tracker will not receive the result of him visiting the person he was trying to kill (unless of course, that person was also the town jailkeeper).

In some games, a host may elect to give kp preference to the mafia roleblocker over the town roleblocker/JK. In that case, a tracker tracking a roleblocked JK returns the result "this player visited no one."

Hopefully that is a bit clearer.

Alex, I have a question. How do you know what skunk piss tastes like?

You should probably take him to a doctor anyways if that is his opinion. There is something seriously wrong with his health/sense of taste. Unless he let someone fool him with something that's not really german beer. Like an idiot.

it might help if I discussed exactly which beers I've had and why I have had a bad impression

erdinger (had their dunkel and wheat beer, couldn't stand either)
augustiner anything
schneider weisse was okayish
hofbrauhaus beer is okay too on tap....but honestly I've had just way better belgian beers
holsten anything - kill me please
jever pilsner - just not my cup of tea really
yes unfortunately I have had astra. worst beer ever, it seems similar to the shit tier american beers
cannot stand kolsch beer in general

if either you or scumformation have any recommendations though I will consider them. but so far my experience with german beer has been.....meeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I looked up this list. Erdinger to me is okay, and I liked Schneider Weisse beers....but looking some of these names up, some of them are northern German beers. I think disformation can back me up on this - but generally speaking you want to steer clear of north Germany beers - the stuff from the southern region (Baden Wurttemberg/Bavaria) is leaps and bounds better.

(Edit: I know you like weissbiers, I had a nice refreshing one - Hacker Pschorr Hefe Weisse. Try that one at least next time.)

Not true at all. I mean shitty beer does exist up here but there are some decent ones too.
But yeah, bavaria is pretty good at the beer front. No idea how you could hate erdinger.

Hm. Let us see.

Astra - not drinkable
holsten - barely drinkable
jever - mh, has been ages, vaguely remember it as being average/mehish?
augustiner - okay/decent, not a fan though

Still need to "catch" up on a lot of the bavarian beers tbh.
I did like what I had of Hacker-Pschorr so far.

Back home I was mostly drinking local pilsner like Schmucker/Pfungstädter.
Think my fav. beer brand is schlappeseppel (also made close to where I used to live) though.

edit: Not sure if I want to join this, DL is just a tad late for me. Though I guess I could manage, since I have flexible work times...

The only German beer I've ever had was Leinenkugels, which is a non-German American German Beer. Delicious, if you like that sort of thing. But likely not German beer at all.

How about an extra qt to continue talking about beer?

I've had belgian wheat beer and the initial taste is perfect, can't say it steadily provides a harmonious balance throughout though, as opposed to german wheat bear. I regularly consume Paulaner, Franziskaner, Weihenstephaner, Valentins, Schneiderweisse, Maiselsweisse etc.

IIRC, your rule was avoid anything (and everything????) from Hamburg? Seriously though, I do want to hear some honest recs on beer from north Germany. There's got to be a few decent ones.

I cannot drink a lot of beer at all for reasons, so as a result I am extremely discerning with what I do drink admittedly.
(I am much more the whisky type as well.)

The types of the German beer I like:
Any dark beer. The closer to American/British stout the better: Bock/doppelbock/dunkels (thank you disformation <3) and schwarzbier. I really need to try more Schwarzbier. I've had these - Erdinger (okay), Hacker Pschorr, but I think I liked Weihenstephaner's dunkel and Schneiderweisse's doppelbock the most so far.

I used to not really care for white or wheat beers at all. Belgian ones were okayish, American ones (even craft was meh) not so good, then I had Hacker Pschorr and Franziskaner weissbier for the first time in Munich and lo and behold I think I've found my white beers xD

Now for me the real question is Marzen, or Oktoberfest beer. I do not like hoppy beer especially overly hoppy beer. I cannot stand Pilsner or IPAs. The question is how hoppy these beers are....from reading about them, they seem like beers that would appeal to me, but disformation you said (edited) you didn't think I'd like them...

Autumn in general brings around good beer.

And no worries, I won't forget signups if we carry on discussing beer. And we can continue in the obs qt for sure. xD

Which type did you have? Based in Wisconsin, from looking up BeerAdvocate, their top rated German style beers are a schwarzbier (stout), marzen (Oktoberfest), witbier, a Helles (pale lager), and their canoe paddler beer (or their kolsch). Their American lagers and fruit beers seem to average higher ratings though, so IDK.

lol so I had the shitty german beer then rofl

us/uk ipas are what I would go for, pale lagers as well. looks like the lighter beers then and pilsner, but based on you and hts, I should probably start with hacker-pschorr next chance I get. maybe augustiner.

dark beers are okay, might have one every once in awhile to change things up.

probably the best belgian bitter i've had is de ranke xx
super strong and heavy and bitterness rivals the ipas on both sides of the pond.

5 spots left.

If we fill up before 1 July, and if I've counted my days right, I can start the Friday evening if people - the majority of this roster - are desperate to start.

However we are running into the weekend and a holiday weekend (and knowing what I know about 4th of July celebrations), which affect quite a bit of this roster. That said, I think the best solution here is to actually wait until the evening of the 4th to kick off Day 1, roster hopefully will be full by then and we'll have the holiday weekend behind us to minimally impact the game.

Mage, in addition to that list I would recommend Franziskaner.

Also you can easily knock yourself out with these two bierhalls in your neck of the woods:
http://katzenjammers.co.uk/bier-and-drinks/
http://www.octoberfestpub.com/beer-menu/

First one looks better, more of the good stuff on tap.
