With the rat army conquered, The Nutcracker, the Cavalier And all the soldiers had gathered Offering a series of dances to Clara in the land of sweets.
A tribute to Clara for her bravery indeed.
Tictock, the rat army footsoldier (Mafia Vanilla) and Tubesock, the Mouse Queen (Mafia Godfather) have been driven from the Stalbaum home!
LightningStrike, as Clara Stahlbaum (Detective), dances away in the night. Shapelog, her brother Fritz Stahlbaum, (Tracker, single shot), watches with glee. Damdred and Sukrit, toy soldiers (Town Vanilla) continue to march forward protecting the Nutcracker Prince.
The Mafia have conceded...
Town Victory!
The Land of Sweets (Observer QT) is here. The Floor Boards (Mafia QT) is here.
Many thanks to Blazinghand for cohosting and covering me where needed and to everyone for playing.
A shoutout to disformation and Shapelog for being the first to correctly guess the full scumteam!
We encourage players to sign up for NSM18 or for those wanting a veteran challenge, to keep their eyes on the Active Games List for games starting in the new year.
I can understand the decision(s) to concede or not. It was their decision. Personally I think they had a decent shot but their perception was unlikely based on (I think?) Onegu? But I'll let Tubesock elaborate if he wishes. The holidays were part of it for what I could tell but not all of it.
I know Shapelog had misinterpreted the mechanics behind his role, and one thing I will stress to you as you proceed to the newbie game - do ask your coach to look at this filter and give you pointers. TBF, the newbies do not have trackable/deliverable kp, EVs (millers/wanderers), town roleblockers that might make things a bit more complicated. This aside, I think consolidation of points and getting to the point sometimes might help you make some of your arguments, I think some of the townies (at least those in obs qt) were beginning to tune out. To be quite fair, you did quite fine for your first game as forum mafia - some of the veterans in obs said you sandbagged your role but I think early on you made yourself quite unlynchable, so good on you there.
I hope you enjoyed your first game on TL and I look forward to seeing you around a few more games.
1 Number of players. Was hoping for slightly larger numbers and a few of you commented on this early in the game or in obs qt, but for those of you not familiar with hosting, games are usually in queue and up for signups for roughly two weeks.
If the game fails to fill up in a suitable amount of time, the game is ultimately closed. We had enough for m13 by the time I was told by the powers that be to get the game going so I drew a setup that was appropriate and started. Which leads me to my next point incidentally......
2 Balance. Setup spec came up a few times in both thread and obs, so I'll run this through. Some mods use a regular DT (alignment) for m13, others have used parity. I've heard both arguments, the more prevalent one being (at least from Damdred/BH) that alignment is too OP (????) in m13. So using parity, I decided to purposely weaken it this time with the roles having more counters to them.
At the same time, given Drams, I decided to make sure that scum couldn't get too quickly confirmed in the event town got off to a fantastic start (which honestly didn't happen this game). So I went for full parity (with two EVs in GF/miller), a 1-shot tracker (with a wanderer), and decided I'd give town a crack at one shot prot. Yes that is three blues, but I have seen players doubt limited shot roles, especially single-shot as there is less accountability for checks. Mafia, normal setup of GF/RB/vanilla with a RNGed gunsmith shot.
This would force town to think about reads if they opened the gift, and even then given the way scum was playing there was a decent chance they could have gunned mafia (optimal play as gunsmith is to gun someone who probably won't get lynched or nightkilled between night cycles).
And yes, since it was asked a few times in both thread and obs, I'll just say it - m13 means one miller, one wanderer if that in a normal. Also as was mentioned, had the miller/wanderer NOT flipped, the blues would have had to think twice if their red checks were false positives. I agree the early EV flips were unlucky for scum.
If I had to do this all over again, I think I could have duplicated single shot normal role abilities (medic/tracker/etc) as gifts and then left it to two blues. Extra kp, take it or leave it. Thought about anti-blue role kp but decided not to do it in the end it could have been too much kp. Probably would have swapped the present for the anti-blue.
In any case, I don't think it made much difference for this game but I have also seen m13 games with three roles and I think if done right, can be pulled off.
Those are really the two things that struck me as a moderator, some tension noticed with some players early game but after a few prompts, things simmered down, so again, thanks for (mostly) collective cooperation on that end.
Hopefully with the next influx of newbies and people coming back, we can get something good going with the upcoming PYP. Helping Greymist out with that one, it should be fun, it has been ages since either a large game or a PYP has been done and I think with the right numbers it will be a welcome change of pace for some.
