Please in the future try to submit your banlist actions in a timely fashion so that people know if they can play or not. As a general rule, I'm willing to go back to remove bans, or if something really terrible happened, or if the host completely forgot, and it was very recent. This situation makes me very uncomfortable with whatever is going on in pmland and honestly it seems like having spikasaur, a newbie, sit out just one game is appropriate. Should spikasaur return, and sit out a game, I'll have a chat with him to encourage him to have fun here on TL Mafia and to try to resolve any issues he has. The spikasaur issue is now closed. Thanks for your input everyone, Koshi. As a side note, Koshi, I feel nervous about your zeal to request bans for people you personally dislike, seemingly because you dislike them. I totally get where you're coming from and there's definitely times I feel "wow, I didn't have fun playing with this guy"-- but that means it's a good idea to try to talk it out and be friends, rather than do this. After all, rather than just banning people, wouldn't you rather make it so you could have a good experience playing with them, since your goal is to have fun? We all want to make TL Mafia a welcoming place so let's try to work together to do that. We're all in this together. | ||

I do feel like a lot of people have walked away from playing and hosting, because of this. But it's not my job or power moderating the ban list here to just say "some behavior is unacceptable and I will enforce this"-- people have made it pretty clear that they're not pleased with how aggressive I personally am about behavior bans. So, the ban list stays as it always has been-- something where the hosts submit requests, not me. I think this is probably for the best. I don't know of a good solution to the problem you outlined. Back when I used to host often, this is something I'd deal with personally just by having a different standard than other hosts. Hosting became unrewarding for me though so I'm not really in the hosting game any more (except for the occasional newbie game to help out) but maybe reaching out to the hosts yourself about this might help? I don't have any good ideas, sadly. | ||

#neverforget To be less snide though, this was once a conversation I was interested in, but no longer. This has always been a problem with no good or clear solution because some people don't mind the status quo, and some people see the need for change. Some people are OK with bans and administration and some people fight against it consistently. It's just draining and aside from the simplest solution of all, which is just 'don't be an asshole,' there is no good way about it. I lost my will to be a part of the community here and have always seen how it could be an issue for newer blood as well. | ||

If I recall correctly part of the reason that Blazinghand started the Community Thread was to interact with one another outside of mafia so that people could come to the realization that this behavior is just a part of the game. Mafia is dying here because SC2 is dying basically. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a strong correlation between peak mafia years and the popularity of SC2. All the people who joined as students ~2010 have jobs and real life commitments now which are not conducive to playing mafia. So we moved on and their are fewer freshers to replace us. Perhaps the TL staff took too long in giving mafia a fighting chance to acquire new blood through their other sites. Maybe now they have done something about it there will be new growth, maybe not. I do Know that the time I spent as a part of this community was really special to me. Even if we were all assholes. :D Which is why I keep checking in even though I will probably never play again. | ||
